I'd like to keep writing and reporting, and if you think your publication has a spot for me, reach out. If you think my experience, insight might make sense at your video game company, my eyes are open. I've done the writing thing for a while. Maybe it's time for something new.

The panic sets in. Klepek has no other skills besides writing diary entries, I wonder how he thinks he will parlay into something new in the industry. According to the "dox" the Farms got on him, this guy is still living off his parents' money, lives in an expensive house in a Chicago suburb no games journalist should be able to afford on their salary. He's talked before about how essentially his rich dad basically bought Klepek's way into E3 when he was a teenager so he could make industry and journo connections. Being a "journalist" is the only thing he's had to distinguish himself from any other layabout coasting on their parental funds.

Been eyeing this utter bellend who works for IGN UK for a while.

Everything that you thought about games journalism is true.

The fact is this, people who work in journalism claim themselves as one, but they are not.

Waypoint shutting down is 9/11 for people who say "Why do you care if the clothing of female characters is censored in fighting games?"
It's not really, to be honest.

Waypoint shutting down just kills another Games Journalism Media outlet that didn't adapt. They were just another podcast/twitch channel that hosted up a bunch of nobodies that are not going to make it as solo streamers (see also Gamespot, Giantbomb, and any games journalism outlet that had a physical production office in 2020 and never went back to it). Most "diversity in fighting games" people already moved over to Twitch/Youtube like 5 years ago.

Kelpek never working in this town again will be great though, and watching him trying to struggle with a Patreon/Twitch Channel will be a lot of fun if he tries it.

Meanwhile, Dead or Alive makes a surprisingly successful beach volleyball spinoff explicitly because their female characters wear very little and have excellent physics rigging.
And classic Lara Croft from 90s-2000s still triumphs over NuCroft

Exiled VR pioneer Palmer Luckey seems convinced that a cabal of games journalists were behind "hundreds" of articles that claimed he was funding people to make racist/sexist memes during the height of Trump fever. He tweeted the following after the demise of Waypoint:

Not content with the endless arguing on Twitter, Luckey decided to take on the redditor menace by posting on the Giant Bomb subreddit for some reason. Every interaction goes the exact same way:

Patrick Klepek can eat shit and die, in whatever order he likes.

RIP in piss Gaypoint.

Here's their thread whining about it:

If this is true, I'm honestly surprised. I'd think that VICE would just nuke the entire forum out of concern for liability rather than waste any time transferring it and all of its contents over to new owners.

I also forgot that they have a private, invite-only Discord server. I wonder what the talk has been like there for the past couple of days.

It is indeed a stupid waste of time to argue on the Giant Bomb subreddit as so, but Palmer Luckey is right to see justice and personal satisfaction in the demise of VICE Waypoint. His ordeal really was as he says. I remember it well as one of the greatest injustices of the video game industry since the dawn of Gamergate. All he did, as a private, anonymous individual, was fund an anti-Clinton billboard ad for the 2016 presidential election and attempted to fundraise for more such ads from the much-maligned "The Donald" subreddit.

When game journalists found out, they threw a massive bitchfit about what amounts to normal political campaigning until Mark Zuckerberg pressured Luckey to publicly lie that he was merely a misunderstood supporter of Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, then fired him from Facebook some months later anyway, thus indeed robbing Luckey of the Oculus company he built. This was at the same time that Max Temkin's Cards Against Humanity, as a company, openly funded similarly-memetic anti-Trump billboards with celebration from those same game journalists.

Having been rendered persona non grata to much of the West Coast tech industry, Luckey then went on to start a big, successful defense company, much to the chagrin of the journalists who banished him and continued to make occasional potshots to this day. I just realized the irony of this. If these Lefty journos didn't clamor to oust Luckey from Facebook, then he would've never started a company in service to the US military that they also loathe.

Waypoint actually has a special place in this. Not only did Patrick Klepek write an article to join in the slanderous deluge against Luckey. The podcast, the crown jewel of the entire Waypoint endeavor, had it's very first episode out of 500+ specifically about condemning Luckey for his "crimes":

I had to look him up to see which one, and I have to say that naming a defense company Anduril is somehow so geeky it overflows into being peak Chad. "J. R. R. sends his regards, assholes!"

If I was one of the faggots working at Kotaku I don't think I could stand the constant shame of living as one of the least respected people of the already not respected group that is game journalists.
Respect for Kotaku is so low that even people in cons are making fun of them.

This fucks too stupid to recognize that his actions don't exist in a bubble, you think another Japanese publisher is going to see this and not think "Maybe we shouldn't be sending this racist code?". Or other publishers for that fact.

GAMURS, media group that operates a fair bit of gaming journalism (Prima Games, Twinfinite, Destructoid, Siliconera, the Escapist) recently laid off about 40% of it's staff. Now they are hiring for an "AI Editor" to do 200-250 articles a week, which would be $4.20 per article

AI is more likeable and has more personality than these retards so sure, go for it. Also why are they including "A love for gaming and the industry" and "A keen eye for detail" in the job requirements when neither have been true in years?

I don't see the problem here. Journalists always said that people who lose their jobs to automation and outsourcing should get used to the changing times and learn to code, so they ought to follow their own example and get to writing their replacements.

Previously reported douchecanoe gets a non-story of epic proportions while slumming at a degenerate Vidya themed drag/burlesque/daddy issues the musical night.

Eyeing up other coverage, he makes sure that anyone not toeing the globohomo line gets on a list.
