"They made a joke about how I had no journalistic integrity, so I spent the last five hours complaining on Twitter instead of doing my job as a "journalist" "

Real journalists from The New York Times (if you can even say that with a straight face) secretly dislike gaming journalists since they don’t offer anything new or important to the genre as a whole.

Most gaming journalists are really failed journalists that could not hang or deal with the upper echelon of journalists that they have to report over.
Game journalists are to journalists what journalists are to normal people.

Did Schrier actually do much investigation, though. I always got the impression this shit was given to him, and he just put it into an article.
Patrick Klepeck is the same. The big story people credit him with (his coverage of the infinity ward v EA lawsuit) was dropped into his lap. He didn't really do anything.

Then the OG PlayStation happened in the mid 90's and gaming hits a zeitgeist, it was "Cool" now and for adults and was the TITS! BEER! PLAYSTATION! era
I'd put it more on the late PS2/Wii/Early 360 era where broadband internet was becoming mainstream, gaming had a massive influx of normies due to the Wii, and the revival of indie games due to Xbox Live arcade.

These clout chasers would imagine they were covering "the art medium of the future", but once the fad had worn off they were stuck being associated with "gamer bros" chugging Mountain Dew and shouting racial slurs on Call of Duty.

Unfortunately for would-be defenders of Hogwarts Legacy, the plot description for the open-world action RPG game as we know it so far involves your character quelling a goblin rebellion that is aligned with dark wizards, which raises the possibility that you’ll effectively be filling the role of a magical cop, keeping down those who are fighting for a more just and equitable society."
I'm not a Harry Potter guy and never watched any of the movies but I'm familiar with fantasy tropes. Don't dark wizards typically use mind control to enslave creatures and other evil world domination plots. Sounds like Hogwarts is actually bashing the fash. Oh I forgot orcs are black people and goblins are African pygmies.

People who are only on social media sites like Instagram and Twitter aren't journalists. Being on social media doesn't make you a journalist. It makes you look like a fool, especially when typing out retarded shit, resulting in such consequences in society.

Because this has to be posted every time Patrick Klepek virtue signals.

Limited Run Games were always woke and shit, hope they get destroyed by their LGBTQIASTDNFTQ++ allies

What kind of fucking cuck apologizes for this?
They had to choose between a joke and a massive gaming publication and their retard army slandering them as Nazis for invoking the specter of #GamerGate and making trans niggers of color feel unsafe. Any company that isn't ideological opposed to these faggots is just going to immediately bend over.

They deserve their death from AIDS.

Remember when game journalism was full of smart funny people who actual liked games? I just had a random intense flashback to the nineties and I'm sharing it here so we can wistfully reminisce about a simpler, less retarded time. Somebody (I'm drawing the name Becky) sent in a letter to a games mag complaining about the Toy Story 2 video game that went something like this:

"In the game the baby's crib is in Andy's room. But in Toy Story 2 the baby had her own room. The crib was in Andy's room in Toy Story 1. If they wanted to make a game about Toy Story 2 it would be better if they designed it like Toy Story 2 not Toy Story 1."

To which they replied (and I'm pretty sure this is close to a word for word quote) :

"Becky, at the end of your hallway there is a mystical portal known as 'the front door'. Through it you will find a magical land full of new friends and exciting adventures. Go my child, set yourself free!"

Those who said they were laid off include: GameSpot entertainment editor Mat Elfring; Giant Bomb video producers Jess O’Brien and Jason Oestreicher; Stuart Kimball, associate video producer at GameSpot; Mason Downey, GameSpot entertainment writer; and Justin Vachon, a graphic designer who worked on Giant Bomb, GameSpot, TV Guide and Metacritic
Shocking that Video Editors and Video Producers would be laid off when all of the content being produced is just shitty livestream VoDs shot inside of people's living rooms on webcams.

I'm shocked it took this long.

The days of magazines.

I remember reading Game Players magazine back in the day and crying laughing at all the humor and spending all month looking forward to it coming in the mail, was devastated when they went out of business when I was 11. Upon looking for it on the internet and finding the archives I re-read some of the pages I was struck by how child friendly they were. They were not only funny but crafted towards a retarded like kid like me and could make me feel like I was in on the inside jokes with adults. Also the reviews were thoughtful, mostly free of overt bias and helpful for kids to make wise choices on. Something was really loss along the way to the industry being so entirely San Francisco centered.
The end is here.

I don't find any of these layoffs to be shocking for Giant Bomb, the fact that Giant Bomb still keeps getting bought is the most surprising thing. They're basically nothing more than low end follower twitch/youtubers accounts that you have to pay 100k+ a year for each, including a bunch of overhead. Who's looking at a spreadsheet and chomping at the bit for that? Voidburger was a twitter hire for its epic comeback tweets, surprisingly twitter is not real life? Jason had a moment when Dan was there at first but he's so broken down and Dan isn't the charmer he once was so not much left there. No idea what he can do for a living
