GB isn't dead in 12-18 months, it died a while back but they're just finding the body now.
They're pulling a Weekend's At Bernie's, carting around the corpse of GB and trying to convince everyone that it's still alive and kicking.

Jeff, streaming just by himself, had both Nextlander and Nu-Giant Bomb beat in terms of viewers today. Some of that can be attributed to how fresh the news of the split is, but it's still impressive.

IMO, he should start interviewing people in the games industry. Those E3 night shows were brilliant. I'm down to watch whatever he comes up with and will probably ditch the Bombcast in favor of his new show.

I have said this before, but I will say it again: it is incredibly rich and satisfying to see 'professional games journalists' lower themselves to streaming on twitch and shilling their patreon. This is coming from people who felt they were above youtubers and streamers because of their connections and corporate backing, now their connections don't mean jack shit and their corporate backing brings hell to their lives. Best of luck to Jeff Gerstmann, but good lord, hearing a grown man bitch and moan about being in meetings for his job is irritating. What did he expect? Someone to foot the bill so he could sit on his ass and stream commodore 64 games? He dug his own grave by being a lazy fuck. Giant Bomb has been shit for 4-5 years because of laziness. They did not care about their viewers, they just wanted to do the same lazy shit they did since 2008. They have been scaling back all of their content for no good reason. Its always the same "but what are video game reviews/quick looks/written reviews/endurance runs in current year? Are they even relevant in current year?" Yes, they have always been relevant. They just wanted to make excuses not to make content. Good riddance.

Remember in 2014 when games "journalists" declared that "gamers don't have to be their audience"?

Well they got their wish.

i want to see jeff interview johnny v and the midway guys agains.

Is nextlander any good? i listened to an early ep, heard a tranny and havent listened since. but if someone tells me its just the Beastcast Id give it another listen.

Danny has never done journalism, he does puff pieces, little more than advertisements, he's a poor man's Geoff Keighley, not Jeff Gerstmann
Is O'Dwyer the guy that said "Giving up anime butt so men rape less is a worthwhile trade" or something like that? I feel he sperged about something and said really dumb shit.

Aren't a lot of those guys in the 2D>3D camp and would find actual women pig disgusting? Wouldn't getting rid of anime butt force them to rape more?

It was over the Tracer butt nerf:

So more Jack Thompson stuff like playing Postal turns you into the Columbine Killers, you literally just magically start raping women if you see an attractive woman in a cartoon.
Pretty much.

I was so naive when I thought Jeff should leave GB and get a consultancy job. He is making as much if not more that consulting would get him with 1 day on patreon.

I agree with whoever mentioned drew scanlon envy. I think that was the downfall of GB when he left and not because he was some amazing personality (seemed like a good guy imo) but because I think his cloth map patreon was definitive proof that most people who work at GB have a large enough following that nerds will throw 5-10 dollars a month at them no questions asked. That patreon ended up delivering a couple travelogues? But he made tons of it and I think a seed was planted in everyone who worked at GB that they had a great escape plan through patreon.

I think that’s pretty much why Dan left having full knowledge he could continue streaming on twitch and make bank, and I think that is why eventually given Covid and the red ventures buyout that brad Alex and Vinny ended up leaving and making bank with patreon. The branding of the site is meaningless now. We are completely in the era of personalities. Whether that’s hasan piker telling you how to vote or brad shoemaker telling you what to play on your PS5.

GB is trying to keep the brand alive, hence them saying GB is GB no matter who works there. However they will fail if the personalities don’t click. I think having Dan back will help but ultimately like I have said Dan can always fall back on his personal branding. This is probably just an extra payday since he quit his job at WWE.

heard a tranny

No, that's just how Alex sounds.

I think that’s pretty much why Dan left

Dan left because he got a cushy job hosting a WWE podcast and was then promptly fired.

personalities don’t click

I reiterate:

What's the Giant Bomb personality now?

Jan who is basically Malibu's Most Wanted, is the whitest person on the team, closeted furry
Blonde Chick has zero personality at all
Baklar can't go 5 minutes without talking about his bowel movements
Jason has the energy of a man 5 minutes from death because he literally is 5 minutes from death
Ryckert is retarded

There's nothing there of interest.

Not to be a Gerstmann shill, but I think the point of contention was a whole bunch of meetings that went nowhere.

Gerstmann wanted GB to be more than "a group of streamers and podcasters" and he was obviously successful at that for a number of years. The meetings probably revolved around going back to trade shows (Game Awards, TGS, and so on) for industry interviews/access as well as getting Giantbomb back into a studio (instead of it being a Twitch Team) and he was probably told "yeah we'll do that" and after 2 years of them saying they were going to do stuff and not doing it, probably signalled his time to leave (on top of everyone else leaving and making more money elsewhere).

Gerstmann's Giantbomb will always be the "we woke up at 3AM, loaded up 2 vans and all of our crew, and went to E3 everyday and got 18 hours of content every day" type of crew and it looks like RedVenture's Giantbomb will be getting low-cost "content creators" to make cheap but profitable content (aka Podcasts).

I can see why he'd be mad about that.

It didn't help that the whole COVID thing caused many cons and shows to get delayed or outright cancelled, as well as hampering travel for the past 2 years.

You can always do interviews over Skype, and every once in a while they got permission to go to the studios for access, like in the lead up to the Steam Deck. Conventions not being a thing anymore doesn't mean Jeff couldn't do the other stuff he wanted.

This is my reading on it. He always intimated that there were plans for GB. Prior to the last take over, they had complained about corporate bullshit keeping them from seeing the group grow like they wanted, I assume this happened a second time.

The minimum tier on the patreon is £4 and he already has almost 2.5k patrons so at minimum he is making £10k/$12.5k per month.

I think Jeff is gona be alright doing this solo thing lol
you do know there's a patreon cut, right?
even with 40-50% he's probably set, but still....
