Oh, they complained about every aspect of it. From the characters to the quest structure design to the fact that Aloy is chatty.
I don't think those people realize that a character talking to themselves is supposed to inform the player of what they need to do or that they have finished an entire area and can leave.

So they still try to appease them and they get shat on.

Developers used to have as spine... yet this spineless halfwits would gladly ask for more.
Nothing about the NPCs in horizon actively ruin the game and they're all strictly background elements, which is how it always worked in the past. There's really nothing in there that's intrusive or would feel like you're partaking in propaganda. You have more quests based around saving the elderly from their Alzheimers than anything relating to CURRENT YEAR issues.

Yes there are a ton of diverse NPCs in the game, but games like Monster Hunter have a similar breakdown of it's own NPCs.

I watched my wife play some of the latest horizon and the only problem so far was an NPC disappearing and reappearing during a cutscene. Did they discuss at all why it came with an install disc? That to me even as a casual console player sounds like a talking point worth bringing up.

So they're upset that a leading female character gets to SPEAK HER OPINION?

How very misogynist of you, Giant Bomb staff!

We might be seeing the end of these Kotaku and the games journalism clique.

Two things of note have happened. First, members of the clique have started having a falling out not over corruption or relationships, but over NFTs.
TL;DR: Ben is against NFT, while Dean Takahashi and Venture Beat advocate for it.
But all of this, I feel this whole thing is more suitable in the game journalism thread more than here.

After this, it's to Steelplatedheart post of Ben's tweets.

Then more of them on Ben's twitter, but he isn't really afraid of going to trial.

Idk why he needs to have his kids opinion to validate/confirm his belief against NFT.

Not only that, but Kotaku is following DeadSpin's lead and went on strike. Nobody really noticed.
Their site is described as having "gone dark", but so far that seems to mean "not uploading clickbait for a few minutes."

So what are the demands of these journos writing for what is ostensibly an English speaking Japanese game news site? Forbes provides a list.
  • More inclusive healthcare for trans and gender-expansive employees.
  • Salary increases in the wake of the pandemic and during rapid inflation.
  • Better family leave which is currently too limited.
  • Allowing for work-from-home flexibility, and getting management to stop demanding remote workers move to NYC.
  • Not enough consistent work on diversity efforts.

We'll see how this goes, but my guess is they're all going to get fired. Either directly, or getting them to quit by moving the office around.

Rated optimistic because I really want this to happen, not because it's unrealistic. I suspect the number of games journalists who don't deserve to lose their jobs for a multitude of reasons could be counted on the fingers of one hand. Certainly not any that work for a recognised publication.

Is Richard Lewis OK? He's the only one I can think of where a rap sheet a mile long of shit they've pulled doesn't immediately unfurl the moment you look into them - and that's possibly because I've never looked into him beyond the odd retweet on someone else's feed.

That brave soldier Ben Kuchera will die on an NFT hill... just like he's died on many other social-issue hills that were tangentially related to gaming (with bonus points for backstabbing anyone along the way that helped him get to the top). Meanwhile Dean Takahashi will continue LARPing as someone who doesn't hold controllers upside-down because it's really the games that are out of touch.

Two true titans of games journalism.

This part, unfortunately, me being lazy, pretty much Ben wiped all his tweets, so it looks like this now.

Fortunately, someone archived his twitter, so old rambling NFT tweets still here.

Not sure if you link the right one, it's just Kotaku front page for me. Usually I use ".md" or ".ph" instead of ".today" for archive link.
But I'll have archives from GMG union strike themselves.
Their twitter page and the main website. For now, since they're on strike, they aren't getting paid and they have to rely on donation.

Demanding for working remote is mostly because of Covid 19.

Beside not getting paid, they're probably on their way kissing their job goodbye, Tom McKay.

Jim Spanfeller is CEO of G/O Media which is the holding company runs bunch of these crappy journalism.

Some support from Jason Schreier, 1 and 2.

Totally not their fault for whatever happened at Deadspin.

Funny how they considering their strike is starting great.

Unrelated to the strike above, not sure if appropriate but Schreier seems to want to be in this matter, Ukraine vice prime minister demands big game distributors to cut ties with Russia and Belarus.

We're totally not the bad guys here and all Russian are evil, even women and children. Their right for gaming as hobby should be taken away.

Does Russia even give a shit about Xbox or PlayStation? I thought they all just played Half-Life on Windows 2000 computers without mice.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This will go as well as the Deadspin strike that started like what? 2 or 3 years ago? Where the crew got buttmad because the new owners told them to stick to sports and not drag politics or BLM into EVERY FUCKING ARTICLE?

Half the cancerous people that infected Kuntaku already bailed on the sinking ship, and all that's left are the rats too braindead to realize that everyone else have already escaped on life rafts.

I don't know, sports sites are still about sports while all video game sites are all about trannies and BLM and dissing Trump.

The war would end instantly if Steam cut off Russians from Counter-Strike.

That's right. Their "site black out" is just "not uploading fresh clickbait".

They can't pull the site down, either because they're too incompetent, or don't have that level of access.
That explains why the site hasn't updated in a while. I thought it was because the staff all had to get their faux-ginas dilated

From the ResetEra thread. Jason Schreier mad that he got scooped by some YouTuber.

Even news/rumor threads are not safe from the autism at RetardEra. Tom Henderson (CoD streamer/leaker) tweeted out that the 2023 CoD will be delayed. While a potentially big story, Tom often tweets about rumors and leaks surrounding CoD and other big shooting games. This time, however, he made the mistake of not citing the original source of the story, everyone’s favorite Palestine apartheid supporter/“games journalist” Jason Schreier.

Lots of screenshots and twitter links so I’ve put the details behind a spoiler.

Schreier is not having it, and calls out Tom publicly on Twitter:

He also quickly clarifies on RetardEra that he is Tom’s source:

View attachment 3007693

RetardEra is desperate to keep one of the few people with connections on their site, despite how abrasive and unlikeable he is, so they quickly change the thread title:

View attachment 3007695View attachment 3007696

And many regulars rush to defend his honor. The thread devolves into a debate over whether or not Tom was right to break the story without crediting Schreier. Some people point out the obvious, that Schreier’s entire career is built on ruining other people’s surprises:

View attachment 3007703

Others try their best to defend Schreier for imaginary internet points (or maybe they’re hoping he’ll give them thanks):

View attachment 3007711

ZeroVGM in particular is trying to win Schreier’s heart:

Others are too afraid to say anything potentially controversial, so I stand they make the most obvious observation possible:

View attachment 3007747
View attachment 3007751

And they are right of course:

View attachment 3007753

At some point it’s revealed that the story was first made available on a Bloomberg platform that is only available with a 24,000/year subscription, which is why Tom and some others were able to learn of it before it went public.

As for Tom, he refused to bow down to his journalist overlord, instead he called him out and mocked him:

At this point Tom had embarrassed Schreier to the point that he was forced to pretend that he wasn’t seething with rage:

LOLOLOL

Look at Shrieker crying like a bitch: CITE YOUR DAMN SOURCES!

Oh, so NOW you care about ethics in gaming journalism, you bald little ball licker?

Update on GMG Union strike, so they won.
They get better healthcare, higher salary and diversity requirement.

The only thing they don't get is remote working because covid 19 reasons.

To be fair, I'm not surprised, they don't really follow safety at all either. In before their need of showing their joy and bravery face over the danger of a deadly virus.
Their victory party.

During their bargaining, they were having food so that's fine. 1 and 2. But truly showing professionalism for supposedly important meetings0.
