Come on up folks! I have some fresh gaming journalist cope to show you all!

Context: IGN and a bunch of other gaming jurnlizm sites are laying off a bunch of people (the fact it isn't everyone is the true travesty)

Here's this clown arguing that Games journalism is dying and that's a bad thing because the youngins won't get indoctrinated (archive)

"No chud, it isn't that gaming journalism lost all semblance of integrity, it's that ALL writing has lost its integrity therefore your assertion is invalid"

The rest of the replies are people shitting on Danny for his shit takes, and calling out gaming journalism for digging its own grave. Cope seethe and mald, journoscum. AI is unironically better than you.
I dont see how much his patreon is making and his latest vids are on soul reaver and half life.

Who gives a shit if he liked Last of Us 2? I've liked worse. I beat Gothic 3.

John Walker strikes again, butt-kissing Neil Cuckmann's Intergalactic trailer, and how he instantly loves it and may end up being "stinky-poops".

Games Journalism is DEAD and Gamers LOVE IT, RIP KOTAKU and IGN.

One of the comments he goes over about corporate media not working well... Maybe if they hadn't spent the past 15 years shitting on their target audience, they would still have views and clicks, thus also having advertisers. Not having oversized and overbudget offices and sets(the g4tv reboot was probably the worst for this), having too many staff that produce no value, etc. that they wouldn't be losing out to people filming youtube videos in the corner of their living room or garage. The lost media complaint? No one fucking cares regarding game journalism. What, you're really amped up to read some ps2 game reviews from a print magazine or watch adam sessler review a gamecube game from the original g4? No.

"I think it's interesting that everyone is celebrating the death of IGN" How fucking milquetoast does this damned guy need to be? They hate their audience and constantly make that clear. They have no fucking idea how to rate games(the 1-5 on their 1-10 scale may as well not fucking exist). The video game industry as a whole pulled in just a bit under 200 billion dollars in revenue in 2023. Clearly there is a market for games, and people are interested in watching/reading/learning about upcoming games, old games, current games, etc. This audience is fucking massive. But when the game journo industry just can't figure anything out..

STOP ATTACKING YOUR FUCKING AUDIENCE

Why is this field, that does not exactly require a higher education, so fucking retarded? If staff start running their mouths on social media, fire them. If they keep posting and submitting inflammatory articles, fire them. It's not that damned difficult to see when someone keeps making their employer look bad online, that when they repeatedly piss off 90% of your audience, that they need to be stopped. Other businesses don't tolerate this shit. People get fired from retail jobs, restaurant jobs, hospitality industry, customer service, etc. for this shit all the damned time. Why is game journalism the exception? Especially the sites owned by larger companies like G/O media who presumably have people on staff who aren't retarded, but continue to allow this behavior. There's no fucking secret or scientific discovery to be made to understand why the game journalism industry has failed.

If I want corporate PR/marketing slop I can get it straight from the source, no need for the middleman.
Stuff like allgamesbeta or the other sibling sites were useful for being an aggregator of press releases. That's about all I want from game's journalism considering these cocksuckers sit on shit that's newsworthy in the industry and write a book about it instead of releasing a timely article.

RPS used to do what he says, but all the others were Consoom crap. pretending Kotaku was some thoughtful publication is funny
I like how he trying to say some dark forces conspired to make game journoscum become sellouts to the corpo cock.
Well in fact all they did was add leftist pandering and activism to their marketing and all of a sudden it became less about "art" and more about protecting and enforcing the activist message.
You journoscum did it to yourselves. You could have just laughed at Zoe and moved on to talking about how cool the graphics were in the latest AAA game. But no. You circled the wagons and called your own readers sexist, racist, incels.
Now the political tide has turned and no longer can you browbeat people. You got the sads now everyone thinks you are sell outs and jokes. It is a reputation well fucking earned. You said gamer's were dead. Now its your turn to go in to the crematory.
FUCK YOU IN TO THE FUCKING SUN

As someone old enough to enjoy games media in it's "heyday" - I have never once read an article in any games publication that I would describe as "tackling the medium as an artform".

It's been corpo slop all the way down, forever, and the people who were selling games have always been in control (see also - how Jeff Gerstmann got fired from his old job). Magazines gave way to video content and Youtube/Twitch/etc enabled gamers to reach their own communities directly instead of having this weird middle layer of "games journalism". On top of that - "games journalism" is dead as most "journalists" have tried to pivot to just being streamers or content creators for the last several years.

Remember, games journalism has never been good. I saw some older reminders.

From the "Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine", covering the games for a console that was very defined by arcade-y games, freaks out over a shoot-em-up being a shoot-em-up.

OSDM were published by Imagine Media, the precursor to IGN, and their journos had a blatant anti-2D bias. If you look up at issues of, say, Game Players magazine from that 90s period, they started underrating a lot of decent games that are now classics, while overrating lots of 3D games that are mostly forgotten. Unfortunately, common for a lot of gaming magazines, in:re 2D games at the time. It didn't matter how great and technically impressive the sprite art and animations were, if it was a 2D game, it was outdated. Also, games that tended to be bright and/or cartoony would mostly be derided by these "people".

Another prime example is this coal-riddled review of Castlevania:SOTN in the official UK Playstation magzine. Whatever bug bit some US games journalists who fancied themselves to be wits, so they'd write worthless reviews full of obnoxious "jokes" and terrible one-liners, etc. it bit UK games journalists even harder.

Wow, such a glorious example of the amazing journalism we're losing. Shitting on basically one of the best games of the franchise and console because "eww, 2d". What a fucking trash article, and still of course manages to give it... a 7 out of 10.

Obviously it's all been corpo-slop consoom crap. 95% of it anyway. But the biggest difference, they weren't shitting on their audience. Retarded regarding video games a lot of the time sure, but they understood that they couldn't just insult their audience and expect to keep and and still have customers. As stupid as the 3d hype was, I can understand it to a point. But we didn't hit this weird outwardly hostile to gamers shit till the 2010s.

The SOTN review reads like a soyboy corpo journo article from 2024. Some things don't change.
Because of this corporate journalism back in the 90s.. we got left out of some great 2d games on psx / n64 / saturn that stayed on japan.

Asking for "more MC Hammer" in the sound department is even more dated at the time of this review than 2D graphics.

Who wrote this and where are they now? Did they review CV64 and suck its dick hard for being 3D?

(I like the N64 games but they are a hot mess)

And remember that they've always tried to fob their shit attitude onto gamers, as if it's somehow our personal fault.

Sometimes you would get a bloke who seemed to just enjoy games and was happy to write about them, but even back in the "glory days" of mags, you still had poncy cunts. Edge was REALLY bad for it at times. I will still never forget one article.

The greatest concept of a game ever drawn up, a fantasy world in which their is no story. No guides. Nothing, you can do as you please. Want to kill the King and rule the land? go for it. Want to open a shop and serve food to a local village and drive up the prices of other vendors and control the market? all options are open to you. Amazing name as well "Project Ego". The first complete game ever made, in which total freedom was the only way forward. It changed its name upon release, fucking "Fable". I know Pete is likely at fault for the level of bollocks, but they should have stepped in and pointed out that most of what he claimed was no possible on an XBOXs hardware, and sounded like scam talk.

Journos have always been shit, but gaming doesnt need them. Just some guys talking about the games they like can do for reviews. I dont care if the devs dislike crunch, I would beat them like slaves if I was in charge.
