One other game that comes sort-of close to that is Age of Empires 2's competitive scene, but the scene for that game is a lot smaller than Smash's, and sponsors have been getting their hands in on AOE2 tournaments, i.e. Microsoft directly contributing to the prize pool for them.

I think if GDQ had categories like those kinds of videos, it might actually be watchable. The amount of effort ymfah puts into his videos is insane, just in the research time alone. Also, I thought he was Korean.
 
Its still annoying as hell the commentators cant tolerate 5 seconds of dead air where the runner actually focuses on the game.

TO BE FAIR, because I am a fair man and there is enough to make fun of anyway, the 12 AM to 9 AM slot has always been filler. That's usually when they do a 9 hour Final Fantasy run or Chrono Trigger or some other RPG while everyone is sleeping because they want the event to be non-stop.

But the fact that they don't have any of those Final Fantasy runs this year (I saw one 6 hour run that started at 8 AM of all times) is kind of telling. Can't remember the last time that happened.

I would have already lost a bet as there are no pronouns in the bio.

Also, no offense to this guy, but I was wondering why AGDQ would start off with a 40+ year old white male. Apparently he's 25 according to his Twitter bio. Maybe he was 25 when he started it and is 32 now? I hope for his sake he is.

 
I forgot they got a little mascot character. Wasn't there some big thing about how it's gender neutral or some crap?
