What's the story behind Wu's game? Anything interesting?

Because all I see is a bland, thin, "sexy", blonde white woman in a typical action game.

From what I read in reviews, it's actually halfway clever, as various choices in-game effect later events, resulting in 24 endings. The plot's purportedly decent, and offset by the fact that the cutscenes often use the always-toxic mechanic that is QTE. The game frequently is cited in reviews (who may or may not be on the take) as being "Heavy Rain meets Mass Effect" - And if you think that my immediate thought was "jaw-dropping pretentiousness meets incompetent programming under an intriguing premise," you're absolutely correct, but that thankfully doesn't seem to be the case here. All indication is that it's heavily character-driven with big choices that the player can make to influence things one way or another.

The problem is, I haven't been able to dig up all that much of the actual plot of the game itself. Most of what I've learned so far have been twitter reviews and stuff directly from Brianna Wu's own marketing and/or website. The only piece I've managed to dig up on it thus far that actually covers it is an article on Gamebreaker which discussed the plot thus:

Gamebreaker said:
Revolution 60 is set in a futuristic world where China and the US are competing for control of a space station weapons platform. The player mostly fills the role of Holiday, who is the assassin on a team of elite spies, though there are a few points where the player will also control Min and Amelia. Before too long, the mission starts to go sideways and it’s up to the player to prevent a major international incident from happening and to prevent a psychotic AI from getting free.

By all accounts, it's decent. The storyline is told competently, and seems to be the biggest draw. The thing is, this game hasn't gotten the sort of wide-spread analysis that a bigger title would get, so I can't vouch for whether or not we're seeing the bright-eyed early reviewers, people openly in the tank, or people who genuinely liked it yet. Amalgamated reviews list it ast 3.5/5 on Metacritic. GameFAQs reviewers were much less kind, giving it a 3/5 on average and citing that whilst the story is competent, the game as a whole is a drag and the combat uninspired and uninvolving.

Take it for what it's worth. That's enough off-topic for now. Let's talk turkey a moment.

Apparently, 8chan noticed something interesting: Gawker has repeatedly violated Amazon's terms of service. To quote the headliner:

Leader of Gamergate said:
HOW GAWKER FAILS TO QUALIFY FOR AMAZON ADVERTISING
Just for detail:
> (a) promote or contain sexually explicit materials;
Celeb nudes. Lots of celeb nudes.

> (b) promote violence or contain violent materials;
How about that Jezebel article where they promoted girls beating up their boyfriends? Then there's the "smash a nerd", "bring back bullying" tweets, and other crap.

> (c) promote or contain libelous or defamatory materials;
Not sure, but considering how shit their fact-checking is and how aggressive they are in purveying their brand of truth, it shouldn't be hard to find examples.

> (d) promote discrimination, or employ discriminatory practices, based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age;
Oh fuck me I'm sure that a bunch of cunts like Gawker have made insensitive and stereotyping comments. I just don't know where 'cause I don't read that trash site.

> (e) promote or undertake illegal activities;
Pretty sure Gawker has tried to lead lynchmobs before, not paying their interns.

> (h) otherwise violate intellectual property rights.
Gawker was sued by Quentin Tarantino for leaking his script. I think the illicit prototype iPhone that Gizmodo got can also count as violating (h).

There are loads more examples. I think KotakuInAction and gitgud have more lists of shit gawker has done wrong.

Carry on, Kiwis.

Sorry for going off topic here but I just wanted to let you know that I am planning on writing about a certain gamer stereotype for a fat acceptance blog that I write for. It's due on Nov. 17th and I would appreciate forum members' help. I already talked to a mod about this and he approved for me to do this but just so that this thread doesn't get clogged up or derailed I made a post in Art&Lit:

http://cwckiforums.com/threads/fat-neckbeard-gamer-stereotype-idea-for-fa-blog-article.5530/

There is more detail there and I would be happy to get answers from you all. I won't be able to quote everyone though.

You know, I think it would be pertinent for Hotwheels to secretly contact law enforcement and have them watch 8chan for just two weeks and track IP logging. I mean really, it would sure help a lot if these people could be caught red-handed and the mystery could finally be solved.

You'd only have to partyvan one person in order to stop everyone else from doing it. People are far less douchey when they can go to jail for it.

Still, look on the bright side: Any pro-Gamergate person who has actually visited 8chan is probably used to the rubbish that's been perpetrated by now. They don't stand to lose any of those people from this incident.

[UPDATE]: Scratch that part on the "mods" contributing to flagging CP, they don't seem to be on. Hire some people in Europe, Howheels. Jeez....

I am an extreme night owl in that I really don't go to bed until 1 or 2 in the morning except for times that I have to get up earlier, but I am not sure if I could do moderation on 8Chan. If this was about 8 years ago, then yeah I would be up until 5am.

[UPDATE]: It seems that a number of Gawker sponsors listed on their website were contacted and have told e-mailers that they are not actually advertising or supporting Gawker, and are seeking to get their brands removed. I don't know about the policies regarding this sort of practice, but is it illegal to falsely advertise that companies are supporting you when they're not for personal gain?
Indeed it is illegal, and there is a thread about this on 8chan.

I need the co-ordinated assistance of /gg/ and /v/
Sorry for the grammar in advance
I talked to my Business professor and he told me that Gawker listing all those companies is illegal in two ways.
Firstly False advertising Gawker increases their perceived value and prestige by having many companies that are no longer advertising with them listed as sponsors this is clear false advertising for the value of their ads.
We could contact the Federal Trade commission who deal with false advertising
http://www.ftc.gov/about-ftc
Gawker infringes on two of their goals
>Protect Consumers: Prevent fraud, deception, and unfair business practices in the marketplace.

>Maintain Competition: Prevent anticompetitive mergers and other anticompetitive business practices in the marketplace.

To those who think that this is out of their jurisdiction or that they will not deal with it since companies have their own legal departments that can deal with it unlike normal people, in America companies have the same rights as people and are consumers of advertisers. Gawker is also giving themselves an uncompetitive advantage over other news sites.

what can you do
First you can help determine which department to contact and help do research once we have found where to contact You can contact the FTC and inform them of Gawkers actions please provide links and pictures if you can I do not have any to provide.
Do you have autism help us by searching through past legal cases for similar cases that were successfully taken care of that will help build a case
http://business.ftc.gov/legal-resources/1/35

>>275772 (OP)
second Illegal activity
The Sponsor list also is a huge trademark infringement for each of the companies that aren't still advertising with Gawker
Contact the companies legal departments on this copyright infringement
This probably won't do as much but if we get even one company to act it would be huge

All of this makes me wonder how bad games will sell this Christmas. Apparently sales have been on the decline for all but a few companies. IIRC, it's a mix of this and the general public being confused by another generation that doesn't LOOK much different.

I could see it having an effect on games targeted at very enfranchised gamers (i. e. those who have a strong opinion on GamerGate one way or another), so maybe some indie developers will be impacted? The general public probably doesn't care, or at least doesn't care enough to let their buying decisions be influenced. At best they'll vaguely remember there was some drama about corruption or misogyny or something.

I mean, sales might be bad (seriously, the new console generation is stupid) but I can't see the whole GamerGate thing actually having much of an effect one way or another. Most people just don't care that much.

Ah, Laurelai, the FBI rat and backstabber who managed to help delude Neko into shutting 888chan down and pointed the feds toward their "friends". I do so hope that #GG brings something to help turn the feds onto Laurelai.

....Are you fucking kidding me?

It's the same Laurelai? The same one who sold out the HBGary people?

Christ it's a small internet. Not really surprised she's friends with Quinn though.

Eh, a formal group with better scruples would produce more effective results.

She's a woman and if she was a man, the reaction wouldn't have been as strong.
Marvin you're acting very strange. I agree with this to a degree but only that it's not as funny when a guy bones 5 girls so fewer people would talk about it.
If *I* sucked 5 dicks for my stupid game it would have been probably bigger than zoe because it would have been funnier especially if i professed heterosexuality.
