Apparently some editor actually believed that pro-GG people used #ListenAndBelieve unironically.
https://archive.today/USVdn

The guy works for TechReview, which just further cements my belief that a good chunk of these people have absolutely no fucking idea on what is going on. They heard, "Some dude said something bad to a woman!" and all of them just hopped right into the fray. Now, I think more and more are realizing they have waded hip-deep into territory they have no defense for being in and are hoping they can bluff and bullshit their way out of it.

I also just want to say that I still find it hilarious that a group of aging, balding white guys (Whedon, Kuchera, Totilo, Sessler, Chipman, Dobson, etc.) are generally first and loudest to bemoan about how people not agreeing with them are racists & muh-soggy-knees.

Here's a quote from a remarkably brilliant but insane person about modern leftism. The prominent people you see writing anti-gamergate stuff.
“Those who are most sensitive about "politically incorrect" terminology are not the average black ghetto-dweller, Asian immigrant, abused woman or disabled person, but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any "oppressed" group but come from privileged strata of society.”
Theodore Kaczynski aka Unabomber

....It's... Actually kind of chilling how true that is. Whedon, Kuchera, Totilo, Sessler, Chipman, Faraci, and especially fuckers like Alex Lifschitz. They're all people who are fucking fantastically wealthy, to the point where they'll see more in a year than everyone on this forum will in several lifetimes.

Someone was hurt in high school.
I was school target for 10 years because I was a computer nerd. That was a terrible sin apparently in the early 80s lol. By high school it was habit, don't think most of them, especially the violent ones even knew why. Just someone they could beat up and no one would come running to defend. If you talk to any of the gamergaters of my generation you'll hear the same thing, the only reason we are still here when others are gone is that we were too afraid of suicide. That's kind of pegging the pathetic meter.

Don't really care about pretend internet bullying - real is real, internet or not. That's all the sjws have - namecalling, harassment, and threats, everything they project onto #gg. Being called names is pretty ineffective against me. I am extremely sympathetic towards the younger nerdy people. I have their back because no one had mine.

Kluwe's article is just start to finish namecalling. Glad he's proud of it.

This is a bit old and not terribly relevant, but I found it quite funny: http://www.donotlink.com/c5lu

TechCrunch's "postmortem" on gamergate and things to be learned from it with my favorite quote being:

"The lesson? Vlogging, it seems, is similar but different to blogging. Blogging is debate whereas vlogging is emotive. Blogging goes for the mind where vlogging goes for the heart."

You heard it here first. Blogging is for the mind.

I think the concept is good of people from a privilege background want to help those who are in the lower classes, but this is not the way to help. If they really want to help what they should be doing is donating to charity, working in a soup kitchen, work for charity, go into public service. But most importantly of all, they need to stop and listen to what those who they seek to help and figure out what their needs actually are.

Helping those in need is an honorable thing to do, but in the process you need to keep a check on yourself. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, there is a reason why this song is one of my favorites.
There is nothing more tyrannical than those who inflict harm in the name of what they perceive as the Greater Good.

Now I think Gamergate needs to focus less on these SJW and turn the discourse back to corruption in journalism. The SJW are a problem but they are trying to make it about THEM. Take a look at what happened with the Legend of Korra:

"Some Nickelodeon executives were worried, says Konietzko, about backing an animated action show with a female lead character. Conventional TV wisdom has it that girls will watch shows about boys, but boys won't watch shows about girls.

During test screenings, though, boys said they didn't care that Korra was a girl. They just said she was awesome"
http://www.npr.org/2012/04/13/150566153/airbender-creators-reclaim-their-world-in-korra

If you make it good, people will pay attention. There is no need to shoehorn in token characters. What people are concerned with with media is entertainment. Trying to force change (and being insulting about it) in the name of Greater Good is only making people resentful. Build it and be smart about your work, without being condescending or insulting about it, and people will listen.

I love it when they hoist themselves by the groin.

I brought this up in the DailyKos thread, but we gamers have been demonized by the mainstream press since video gaming existed. We were a convenient target, and one that could easily be marginalized without consequence and couldn't fight back. As such, it was always easy for them to throw rote sensationalism at us and treat us like social pariahs. That we were ultimately harmless never was the issue. That the FBI proved on multiple occasions that there was no link between video games and violent behavior was always curiously ignored.

For those of us who've been gamers since the proverbial dark ages, these attacks calling us misogynists are nothing new - we've been called worse, and subjected to worse. We're the ones who got blamed for Columbine. We got blamed for the Virginia Tech massacre. We're the ones that got blamed for Sandy Hook. In each of these, I got to see Very Serious People(tm) protect us little people by screaming about the need to ban violent video games and ostracize those who play them. During Columbine alone, I had many friends across multiple school districts who got expelled. Most of them later sued their districts and won. Even with all this, the targeting of us never stopped - we wouldn't fight back, so surely, there was nothing we could do about it, right?

Well, actually, it turned out there was.

We reached voting and purchasing age. Now we're the fucking demographic, and we can vote with our wallets and advocate for ourselves. And, as evidenced by the fact that we delivered a $25 Million (and counting) fist in Gawker's groin, we're sick of their shit.

After decades of treating gamers as a whole like shit, these people don't understand that we're immune to their attacks. 2+ decades of societal shaming and the like has left us with nothing to fear. In short: we are the fucking reckoning. We are going to, in the immortal words of one of Hulk Hogan's most-beloved archnenemies, going to break their back, and make them humble, and FUCK THEIR ASS.

Keep up the fight, gentlemen. Contact their sponsors. Hold the bullies to account with their own words. Bring the truth to light. And keep doing it until we leave their assholes in ruins.

ADDENDUM: Adobe (as in, the Photoshop/Flash people) just quit Gawker. I wonder how much that added to the mounting financial fist in the ballsack?

I have to admit that I keep flip-flopping over this whole issue. On one hand I see what the Gamergaters are trying to achieve, on the other I can see what the other side is saying about doxxing and harassment. It's very, very complex and confusing. I want to support a side but even that is driving me nuts because both sides have very valid points.

I think I am just going to try and take a neutral stance on this whole thing even though it's very difficult. I guess not being a gamer, I really shouldn't be investing myself into this whole thing as it doesn't pertain to me really.

I still want to be able to play games though and I will have to backtrack this thread and find those that recommended things to me

Edit: Dabitch's article is really good and she makes a good point about how this could affect women who are thinking of getting into the gaming industry.

You don't need to necessarily pick a side, just understand what people are fighting for, and why.

That's seriously enough. Let the actions of both sides speak for themselves.

Above all else, don't be fooled by the shitheads. There's a lot of provocateurs on both sides, who are doing everything in their power to make the entire affair look as ugly as possible. Never forget, however, that at the end of the day, LW1 thanked GG supporters for doing their part to condemn doxxing attempts and shut down harassment threats from their own community.

Gamergate doesn't condone doxxing and harassment. This isn't merely empty words, they prove this with their actions as well. 8chan actively bans and deletes any attempts at it. They actively report any twitter accounts that are used to harass people. Recently, a group of trolls tried doxxing someone there while the mods were asleep, so Gamergaters from all over went onto 8chan and shitposted the thread into oblivion. Gamergate also went and found the person who sent Brianna Wu the death threats, not that they can do anything about it because the guy's in Brazil.

Just some more information for you.

That's probably the best thing I can do. After the Anita USU thing I got angry at GG and participated in the #StopGamerGate2014 though not heavily as I was in fear of possibly getting doxxed. I guess it is hard to remain open to both sides when you got extremist pulling your (emotional) strings. Please note that I didn't participate or will participate in any doxxing or other illegal activities as that really is not in my nature.
Another thing too, I is I want to get to know 8Chan better but I'm hindering myself because 1) I don't know chan culture or how it runs as I am not into "geek" culture 2)I find 4Chan and 8Chan very very intimidating and have heard the horror stories perpetuated by the media about them and 3) I am not computer savvy so I would feel so much like someone that really doesn't belong there.

I've heard that the owner of 8Chan is on these forums, perhaps he could tell me what it's about? Maybe PM me or something?

Edit: Posted before I read Raymond's post. That is certainly commendable for 8Chan to do that and it's unfortunate that nothing can be done to get that Brazilian guy.

I have been following this closely and all I can say is that it is a clusterfuck.

I cannot tell who is right about what, especially considering that articles i found about it mention that misogynist conservefags are trying to get supporters from this, and that that the proof provided by the so called boyfriend is unprovible.

edit: i found the proof at: http://thezoepost.wordpress.com/, and i noticed that he condemns the harassment of Zoe Quinn, though this whole thing is still a clusterfuck...

Personal advice: If you're paranoid about being doxxed, then be careful if you ever choose to defend Gamergate. Many of them have gotten doxxed and fired, including the creator of #NotYourShield.

I myself take this as a reason to keep fighting, but raymond has a good point. The other side is merciless and sadistic and will happily use every despicable trick at their disposal to hurt people that support Gamergate because they see it as a threat. Multiple times they've flat-out advocated for our deaths on twitter. Really, there's not a lot to say about this other than it making clear that we've struck a nerve.

We will not be silent.

Well I don't think I can go back to supporting Gamergate on Twitter as I have participated in the anti-GG hashtag that I mentioned above, again out of anger and now I feel foolish about that, and it would seem that I am a hypocrite or something.

I really do wish I could speak with Hotwheelz or whatever his name is as I would like to ask him some questions as well.

Hotwheels periodically makes himself available on streams. He's been on IA a few times, as well as Sargon and MundaneMatt.

If he shows up for one, check him out. He usually allows Q&A sessions, and he has some fascinating insight to give.

What proof? The part where the boyfriend pointed out that Zoe Quinn slept with three people?

That's actually been proven. In fact, it came out relatively early. The unproven part has to do with the reviews, but Nathan Grayson admitted to sleeping with Zoe Quinn. The big backlash came from the fact that they refused to address any of the possible disclosure issues, at first, with anything more than a dismissive 'look, it doesn't real'.

At least I'll agree with you: it's hard to tell 'who is right about what', when a big part of the issue is the claims that the media is lying and otherwise hiding the truth. So looking at the news from certain sites - Kotaku, Polygon, Ars Technica, Rock Paper Shotgun, etc - is basically the same as reading propaganda. At least, from the #GamerGate perspective, who keep bringing up they're never portrayed in a good light.

That said, while you claim the 'misogynist conservefags' are using it, I hope you realize a lot of people are having trouble with equally genderist or racist leftists who are taking the chance to lie, mock, and insult people with legitimate disabilities and encouraging bullying and violence against them. It's not a nice situation.

Also, if you're going to judge Eron like that, go at least read his own words. He's had enough difficulty with being heard considering journalists keep the focus out anyway...

Looking at that gamgergate harassment tumblr....

Brianna Wu said something derogatory about people with autism?! And used a picture of an autistic kid in her memes? I thought that was just some random kid picture.

Now, I don't like people that make fun of autism because I have it but I know most of the people on this forum really don't do that, but I can't look at Wu the same anymore now that she has said that. I have Asperger's and I was bullied in school from K-12, though fortunately nothing physical but damn, mental abuse is the worst and at age 34 that shit still haunts me and I didn't know I had Asperger's until 4 years after graduating from the hellhole school I was in. Bullying hits a nerve with me and sometimes I get flashbacks from some of the psychological abuse I had to endure.

And... I was just triggered, sorry.
