Yeah, you can get Team Fortress 2, a fairly popular and pretty good multiplayer game for free.

Also there are tons of great games you can pick up for next-to-nothing thanks to sites like IndieGala and Humble Bundle, not to mention Steam's own sales. One of my favorite games on Steam, The Binding of Isaac, usually pops up on Steam sales for $1 and I got Crusader Kings II for a friend recently at $3.
 
The biggest thing I've taken away from this whole thing is that when it comes to twitter it seems like everyone loses any bit of professionalism they had. There's something very wrong with how people operate on that site. Why have I seen multiple journalists who work for larger publications bickering publicly? Why do I see people publicly post their name, where they live, where they currently are, and what they're currently doing go on to complain about having their personal information leaked? Where are all the adults in this? Twitter is fucking weird. We see people in positions where a decade ago they would have contacted you via email and discussed things privately and at length. Now they're publicly tweeting blindly from the hip with a restriction of 140 characters or less. This shit hurts any kind of civil discussion more than anything and both sides do it. It's the fucking norm on twitter and it's stupid.

Most weekends they let you play a specific game for free. Oh and they are giving out Payday the Heist for free to keep right now.

I would of have liked to have commented about how as a self-described gamer and a minority member, how I'm disgusted by SJW's using me to cover up their fuck-ups in character and their blatant hypocrisy. Yes, I agree that we could be more welcoming as a community to women and minorities (basically what I always said back on love-shy.com). Yes, I think rebooted Lara Croft was more realistic and I could relate more to, despite being male, than the original (even back when the first one came out, I thought she was kinda ridiculous and wondered what the hell was wrong with guys drooling after polygonal boobs). Of course I would like to see more games with minorities as protagonists.

But I refuse to let some fucking hipster declare that I and people who share my hobbies should go the way of the dinosaur and then claim that they are in fact "defending me" in the same breath.

I've been staying away from DailyKos for a while. And I'm pretty gosh-darned leftist.

Today, I returned. And I was displeased.

I have never, in my 20 or so years of political activism, have been as coldly furious as I was at this post when I wrote this. After 2+ decades of degradation at the hands of "the man," those responsible can fuck the hell right off.

There are occasionally free games on GOG.com, older games (hence Good Old Games) but that weeds out the crap. All have been fixed to work with modern versions of Windows and whatever else the support. Controls were kind of clunky in a lot of the old stuff, and the games were probably a bit more difficult and held your hand less, but there are some gems there.

Being mildly right wing/strong libertarian they just generate eye-rolls from me. They long ago lost any interest in the arena of reading up on opposing viewpoints.

Oh man, GOG.com is awesome. It's another one that has incredible sales that allow you to get a ton of great games for dirt cheap.

I kind of know what your feeling , I'm sort of disillusioned at what the left has become, I always considered my self liberal and always voted democrat mainly because of my background as a Native American. I believe in welfare, racial, religious and gender equality but when I see these manipulative fuckers taking over everything I feel betrayed and I am seriously worried about the future because these tactics they are using, willing to be completely in denial not matter how wrong they are, the lengths that are willing to go through with harassing people and turn everyone against each other and willing to use censorship.

History has always been a hobby of mine and when I see radical shit like this it scares me because of how SJWs eerily turning into a autocratic movement like the Soviets and Nazis or whatever radical group you can think of. Can you imagine if a Stalin/Hitler like person in a actual position of power used their tactics of censorship and shaming of people in the modern day with internet, in that no matter what you say they will always label you as a racist, homophobe, misogynist or what ever to turn everyone against you.

Oh, and the AvP 2000 beta is being given away for free for the next nine hours by GOG.com so they can test their multiplayer system. It's another opportunity to get a classic PC game for free so I'd try to get it.
 
Eh, why label yourself with a particular political group in the first place? You know how you feel about major and minor political issues, so if they don't match up exactly with one or the other, be neither. It's not like it's a requirement that you support one side and one side only. People are complex and can't be sorted so simply.

Recent events have forced me to see wisdom in this viewpoint that I should have noticed far sooner.

The comment I wrote, appropriately enough, got completely ignored by an ongoing circle-jerk of morons who clearly didn't even read it and are now giving one another verbal handjobs over it, claiming things like it mentioned Quinn 20 times (mine didn't), Mentioned so-called SJWs (didn't either), and claimed that Anita made the death threats up (never did).

Fuck these people.

I am not sure if I want to play multiplayer as I suck at gaming and really don't want to interact with other people. I would have to be with people that know me and that I trust.

Agreed, "conservative", "liberal", "libertarian", "progressive", "environmentalism"
These are but abstractions to conviniently label a set of ideologies and beliefs. I would go as far as say if you completely agree with everything on a platform, you probably are not thinking about it deep enough. A conclusion I am coming to is that doubt is the beginning of wisdom; how can you learn if you think you know it all having all the answers. When you doubt you have a drive to want to understand more.

There is nothing that causes me to lose respect for someone faster than when I see someone all wrapped up in the tyrany of certainty "knowing" they have the Truth (capital T intentional).

That's what I've learned, I rather not be labeled something because of the thinking I've done these past few years, I don't like a lot of what the republicans say and I don't believe in a few things the democrats do but I see ideas that I agree with on both sides, it's just that I rather vote democrat in my situation than republican because they wouldn't do anything to help my people and community if they got some of their ways.

I had a lot of respect for Paul Wellstone (but not really for the cult that formed around him). His "true believers" would have cried crocodile tears if they realized who his actual friends in Washington were. It took a few years for him to mature politically, but midway through his first term he became what all politicians should. There's something to be said for the fact that he was the only true lefty to show up for Barry Goldwater's funeral. He was one of the greatest men I have ever disagreed on almost everything on. Didn't stop me from writing letters of support when we agreed. Only crazies think everyone is an enemy. You need principled people out at the further extremes to make sure nothing skates through the process. /end polisperging

If you don't mind slightly clunky interfaces (less with the later games), but love to experiment and explore, and can round up $6 sometime, the Ultima 4/5/6 bundle gets you the pinnacle of storycrafting. I wouldn't go past Ultima 7, though. Unless you really love the world don't go back to 1/2/3. All are incredible, but before 4 they get increasingly harder to play - the world has moved on from giving you absolutely nothing to help you figure out what's going on.
