A WHOLE lot of words have just been written on Kotaku about Brianna Wu having to FLEA HER HOME due to threats.

Words about that whole thing that was debunked within minutes of it happening, and something no one has seriously believed, at all. Something that has been all but confirmed to have been done by the woman in question trying to get herself more attention and money.

At least he's not Ben Kuchera. Remember, there are two kinds of anti GG-ers. People who don't want to lose their jobs, and people who don't want to lose their jobs that also happen to be psychotic hipsters.

EDIT: the article isn't anything speacial. It's just regurgitation of the same old information.
 
Okay, so I'm not sure if this belongs in this or Dobsonthread, but I figure it might belong here.

Vivian James and #GamerGate. There's been people arguing that she's not a mascot, in spite of what people such as Dobson claim. But is it true? Vivian James has been used for posters promoting #GamerGate, after all. Couldn't it be argued she's used as an unofficial mascot, given how she wasn't created for it, but simply has been used to represent common gamers in general? After all, much as I have seen images of her playing videogames, there's also her presence in #GamerGate pamphlets and posters.

Any comments or counter-arguments?

Vivian was created by /v/, after its fundraising drive for TFYC. Viv herself isn't a mascot, but she's irrevocably tied to Gamergate by simple virtue of it being how she came about. That she's going to be conflated with it is a bygone conclusion, and though I disagree with her being considerable a mascot, the fact that she is a "Jill Everyman" character who enjoys vidya gaems does mean she is kind of representative of us on some level or another.

Is she our mascot? No. But she also couldn't exist without Gamergate happening, and does represent us via her very nature as someone who enjoys her games, so conflating her with it isn't exactly inaccurate, either.

I don't really like this article. It doesn't say anything new and it gets a few major facts wrong. For example: The other side (Anti-GG) didn't create gamergate. That was Adam Baldwin, who is Pro-GG. While there isn't a single leader, per-say, there are folks who are pretty major in it.

Also I don't agree with the whole "trust will never be recovered" sentiment. Trust will resume, but the culture will always remain cynical about the publicity sector of the industry.

Adam Baldwin (the hero of gaymurs the man they call Jaaaaaaaaayne) coined the term, and it has become thestandard for people pissed off at the game journalists and their pet devs to rally around.

Thus it has been massively (yet impotently) smeared as much as possible by said journos and their friends in other papers.
