I'm disappointed at Todd. IIRC, he has a journalism degree and I would assume he'd understand Gamergate. Nope. He's been harping on GG for a while now, ever since it started. I've been following him since 2009 and consider him among the best out of the TGWTG community. And to address the elephant in the room, its very possible Lindsay (Nostalgia Chick / his GF) has influenced him a bit. She's been a follower of Anita's for a while now.

I thought that all the TGWTG team were pretty SJW. Ever since Spoony had his twitter meltdown where they seemed to shift the goalposts on him about what was "funny creepy". Don't get me wrong. Spoony has serious USI and can be a hilarious drama queen but he's also a diagnosed loony. It just seemed weird that they reacted by demonizing Spoony rather than making sure he was stable. Even if they felt they had to let him go from their team, it could have been done carefully. If there's any group that is neglected and abused in Western society it's the mentally ill.

Even before this thing started, people were content to conflate gamers with shit they hated. We dealt with that all through the 1980s and 1990s, so to the oldfags, this is just a new chapter of the same old hat, but to relative newcomers, this has to be a bit jarring.

It's very hard to get a moral high ground against people who are both willing to exploit their media presence and equally-willing to call you racist and misogynist and so on and when they have a huge dedicated network of assholes designed to denigrate and slander us. A lot of the people opposing us aren't on-board with the so-called SJW viewpoint - not remotely, in fact, and they'd probably be horrified if they saw some of the so-called SJW responses (that Sarin one specifically) - but because they've been spoon-fed bullshit on the matter since day one, they believe what they've heard. Never forget that ignorance of what's really going on is a far more likely scenario than people buying into this lock, stock, and barrel. Many of these people can be reasoned with, negotiated with, but you have to do so carefully, and with foresight - and ideally, away from where the so-called SJW's biggest weapon - dogpiling - can't be used.

Consider dropping them a polite but firm email or private message explaining the crux of Gamergate and encouraging them to do their own research on it based on what you've shown them. I've convinced a few people this way, including an SA goon that otherwise is pretty much an SJW by most standards (he was incensed by what they did to the #notyourshield guy).

Ths isn't to say those under the GamerGate banner (remember, I'm just a gamer myself that agrees more with the GG side) should just let the naysayers keep spilling lies about them- just remember their own egos is what defeats them in the end.

Couple of nights ago, there was a Google chat going on with him, ShortFatOtaku, LoPing Panda whathisface, Milo, Eric Kain (sp), and a couple of other folks... and IA is on there, drunk as a muthafucka. Really, I realize we're just talking about game here, but all the same when GGers bitch about the fuckwit journalists not holding up to any professional standards and at the same time, the people bitching about can't bother to stay sober? Fuck that noise, IA. Yeah, you may just be some asshole on YouTube, but you're also one of the people connect with GG- act better than the professionals.

And for the Shadow of Mordor deal... it really sucks that WB decided to get a nototrious bad marketing group to help hype the game. However, I bought my copy after doing my own research and watching gameplay demos from months back. I bought my copy on my own volition and not by some marketing dipshits. And thus far, I've been enjoying the shit out of the game. Few issues with the mechanics, and minor glitches here and there, but overall, it's been a really solid game. So fuck off people, I can make decisions for myself. Bwaaaaaah.

According to the hand-wringing proto-SJWs, D&D was Satan's Game, worse than gambling, worse than drugs, a brain-washing cult propaganda piece that had children sell their souls for Level Ups and kids would kill themselves because a shadow-cloaked dungeon master would tell them to if they wanted their characters to live.

Now in that instance it was all 100% true and Dungeons and Dragons is the most evil game ever made (Shadowrun 4 lyfe) but people forgot about it, almost entirely and almost instantaneously, once Video Games began to grip our nations youth. You still had some of the crazies who had made good money writing articles and doing interviews trying to get their spotlight back, but it had passed on.

I've been hoping, for about a decade, for something else to come and take Video Games place and let all the crazies jump and shit all over that instead. Because D&D never ended. One of the reasons that the now-notorious Deadale Wives segment on D&D was so eminently quotable (indeed, virtually every GM worth their salt can quote giant stretches of it verbatim) is it basically took the piss out of things like Dark Dungeons, and how magnificently it deconstructed the mindset these people screaming about how it was corrupting our children was. Thankfully these people often fuck up, as was the case when two assholes tried to claim that cartoons are gateways into the occult, and then got resounding mockery by anyone possessing even a modicum of common sense.

Same battle, different day. And it'll be won, just as all the others were.
