This is awesome advice. The only thing I would add to it is, that in the case of the "professional" journalists who are demonising everyone, contact the people who advertise on their site. Explain how you feel and that it upset you to see their product associated with these articles and always maintain a polite tone. If they get enough complaints they will make the websites address their mistakes.

But don't talk to the journalists etc. directly. They're wallowing in the infamy like pigs in shit atm.

Adam Baldwin is a bit of a nutjob. He doesn't believe in global warming and carries some very right wing beliefs. Out of all the ways to attack him I find pointing out that he hasn't played an indie game as pretty damn odd. Maybe she's trying to jokingly come off as pretentious but either way it comes off as sad. Telling someone who has been in a shitload of movies (some that will forever be referenced like Full Metal Jacket) to "get a hobby dipset" just doesn't... I don't... is she fucking retarded? I think fucking with people like her over twitter IS his hobby.

Pretty much. Her ex that dropped a lot of the proof behind the Five Guys shit has stated that she's done stuff just to keep her name out there to help her career. I think she expected an Anita amount of unquestioned respect from indie people and SJWs when she made claims of being raided by wizardchan. She knows playing the victim can work but she got caught and then her tactics outed by multiple people. I really hope that when this whole thing is over she'll just be known as the small manipulative spark that started a giant debacle between gamers and game journalists. All she'll have is the shame of this incident and not even being known as a particularly active player in the important parts. Just "that chick who banged five guys to help her career". Right now I'm more interested in what /v/ or sites like Kotaku will do but she happened to tweet during a small lull so I just wtf'd.

I knew that. But, in WWI he was most famous for spearheading Gallipoli which was the biggest disaster for the Entente. I meant more along the lines of being someone who saw the adversary for what they were and were mocked for saying so at the time.

Yes that Adam Baldwin. He saw Joss Whedon tweeting Anita Sarkeesian about the Quinn thing and so he researched it and came across the IA videos. He's been pretty fun to watch.

He was 1st Lord of the Admiralty which is a political post and not a military one. Then he rejoined the army and commanded a battalion on the Western Front. He fought in a lot of wars in a lot of countries.

I hope something large and positive occurs at PAX.

I don't mean to demean or undervalue any effort anybody has put into this, but what's the end goal here? We can't sway the likes of Quinn, Fish, Grayson, Kuchera or Hermandez and why would we want to put that effort in?

I guess I'm just so disgusted by the entire ordeal that I feel like in order for things to change, you need to scorch the Earth. The likes of Kotaku or RPS are irredeemable in my eyes, a waste of bandwidth and time for everyone involved.

But I don't think Gaming Journalism as a whole is irredeemable. There just needs to be new guidelines, new writers. A barrier needs to be put in place of devs and journalists and a barrier needs to fall between gamers and journalists. This self-hatred of the majority of the fanbase is fucking stupid, social justice belongs in a small niche of gaming, not prevalent in all mainstream online media. The same shit happens at Buzzfeed and Cracked and I understand it's merits, I do. But there are so many more aspects to video games than just their socio-political agenda.

And the people who are honestly this riled up by this should hike up their bootstraps and start new websites from the ground up that focus on what they want to focus on. Video games.

Because right now there is a hamster wheel that's been run on, call out more shit, get a few more words of apology squeezed out of these assholes. Soon this cycle is going to lose it's momentum, so unless something actually changes, on a large enough scale, it's going to fade into obscurity. And they will win.

You can sway the companies that advertise on the sites that employ them. People complaining politely to Blizzard (or any other company that advertises on Kotaku, RPS etc.) and enquiring in a polite tone if they also consider all "gamers" to be terrorists, misogynists and basement dwellers is considerably more scary to these folks than a protest. The "journalists" could lose their jobs if the advertisers put in enough pressure and then Quinn loses her financiers.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, but those are big companies. They're busy. They'd need more than just a few e-mails to PR telling them how much Gawker sucks, albeit politely, before actually doing anything. Because those are also big websites, and they provide a lot of positive buzz.

The system is so well in place that it needs a lot more rumble than that before toppling.
