I don't even know who's fucking who anymore. Did she fuck you? Did she fuck me? Did I watch too much TV? Who can anyone trust? Who's the sockpuppet? Who's the leak? Who are these proxy soldiers? When will the lies stop? Who is John Galt? Whose sled was it? It's like I woke up and suddenly I'm living in an incredibly a version Deus Ex with patchily-grown beards clashing against poorly-done dyejobs and mismatching lip piercings instead of trenchcoats and shades.

This entire situation is a load of starkly confusing bollocks that makes me consistently reality-check myself because I can't honestly believe that this kind of incredibly confusing cyclonic conspiracy shit goes on, even after everything I've seen from Chris.

It's not a conspiracy when it's completely out in the open and public.

All this is based on publicly available twitter and Facebook messages.

It's also not really that confusing. I've summarized it in a previous post.
The dev of Depression Quest cheated on her ex boyfriend with 5 guys. She was a massive hypocrite and beforehand claimed that "cheating on someone is rape" like the SJW she is. After that the internet was really pissed at how many of those journalists wrote about her game and gave her publicity because she slept with them, and they also contributed to her Patreon account (both of which would be a firing offense in any other journalistic medium). Now everyone is really annoyed at video game journalism websites for not talking about this and their lack of journalistic integrity.
There's a lot more to it but that's the basic gist of it all.

Kotaku has posted the third in their tone-deaf series of "we were never actually wrong it's everyone else and we're getting picked on"

There has been so much hate. So many angry words, so many accusations, over...what? Video games? Women in video games? People who write about video games?

Once you're done here, I'll see you next week, where we can hang out as thoughtful, considerate human beings and enjoy video games as they are, not what some folks feel they can dictate from a dark corner of the internet

Translation: We at Kotaku are sick and tired of getting called out on our journalists fucking sources, living with sources, potentially dating sources, for not punishing writers who do the previous three things, and for shoe-horning in SJW topics into as many articles as we can. As such, we are going to try and ignore this over the weekend and hope no more bad things about our organization come to light so our frenzied reader-base can defend us and drive away the mean people.

The fact sites like Kotaku are just trying to hide their skeletons only gives folks all the more reason to not let this die down.

So I dunno if anyone else caught this from last night

On one hand I gotta agree that yes this has moved beyond Zoe and if anyone should bring it up it should be about the huge corruption in this industry.

On the other hand let me just point out a very important quote here, this is the guy that Zoe doxxed for his charity to help women game developers (reminder, they had a lawyer present to publish this statement):
The fallout from the posting of my info costed me around $10,000 dollars, as a business partner walked of the production because of the negative publicity and a sponsor refused to come on board with production being deemed transphobic. I have paid this money and it has not affected my standard of living. The fallout she is receiving, from what she personally described to me, is.

Do you think these fucking assholes actively ruining this industry understand the impact and ruin they bring to those not in their special little clique? I'm legit sick at this.

The fucked up thing is they've gone back and deleted certain articles that pointed to other instances where the journalist suggesting a certain indie game was very close (roommates) to the developer without disclosing it. What I don't understand is how there are people out there downright ignoring things like that. The SJWs think this is male gamers against Zoe but it's really gamers against sites like Kotaku. They decide ratings, what games get the most attention, what is relevant to gaming, etc. Their followers put quite a bit of trust in them. Most people are aware that game magazine and sites have pretty much always made compromises in order to get previews of new titles and other perks but the Five Guys incident was a very blatant example of how it's who you know and not how talented or creative you are. It showed the almost non-existent line between the people who were making content and the ones reporting it and how much they fed off each other. The gamers weren't in the equation at all. Now instead of actual news we're being told to go check out a bunch of indie titles because they're made by the writers favorite drinking buddies. Hell, two other sites where the writers were at the same party are saying the same thing. THAT GAME MUST BE PRETTY GOOD! I SHOULD CHECK IT OUT!

When this twitter war started things got weird. The gap between gamers and game bloggers/journalists was revealed to be much larger than people thought. People working for big name sites and established indie crews were calling gamers "nerds" and telling them to go back to their basements. Now we're being told that "gamers" are dead. Several different sites publishing basically the same story within hours of each other. We now have some bizarre case of the haves and have nots in a medium that rarely gets taken seriously by anyone outside of it.

Fucking video games, right?

Neat, Polygon has jumped into the "poor us" fray. http://www.polygon.com/2014/8/28/6078391/video-games-awful-week

Their tactic is a little different: talk about things like Lizard Squad calling a bomb threat on a sony CEO's plane, and people being mean on twitter so much Anita had to "flee her home". This is all fine and should be discussed, but that's the thing - Polygon is trying to reframe the discussion, and paint themselves as the victims. They do so by their introduction

What an awful week for the culture that surrounds and influences video games.

Last week, a game designer's personal life was exposed to the internet, and used to justify physical threats to both the developer and her colleagues. The designer was one of many people targeted in an orchestrated harassment effort directed at game developers.

And with their closer
Two groups are at opposite ends of this moment:

One side has folded its arms, slumped its shoulders while pouting like an obstinate child that has learned they are getting a little brother or sister but wants to remain the singular focus of his parents' affection.

The other side has opened its arms, unable to contain its love and compassion, because they understand they are no longer alone.

This week, the obstinate child threw a temper tantrum, and the industry was stuck in the metaphorical grocery store as everyone was forced to suffer through it together. But unlike a child, the people behind these temper tantrums are hurting others. It's time to grow up. Let's not wait until next week to start.

And a whooooollllleee lot of words in the middle of that talking about people getting SWAT'd during live streams, people getting mad at Anita, and the bomb threat posted on twitter. Mind you, Polygon is getting shit on because Ben Kuchera has been paying Zoe Quinn's salary through Paetron since January but never disclosed it in the articles he's written about her. He's also attempted to get other journalists fired because they mentioned you could play a game on an emulator.
But Ben's name isn't brought up once in the article, or once in the 420 comments.

I can't help but feel like, in the second thing you quoted, that simile kind of got away from the author of the article but they just kept rolling with it because they had a deadline and it was important to misrepresent the topic at hand as much as humanly possible.

I was never huge into gaming -I have logged less than 15 hours on my Steam account- so I'm not really up on "Gaming Journalism". These people fucking suck. Sure, the death threats are horrible (issuing death threats makes you socially awesome and cool, and totally not a fat virgin with rage!), but Jesus, what a stupid, self-serving, self-congratulatory article. I know these idiots won't resign, but they should.

I'm kind of afraid to touch the whole Anita death threat thing. Someone tweeted that they wanted to kill her and her parents and posted the address to both of their places. Apparently death threats aren't that uncommon to public figures but many of them ignore them or call the cops and try not to openly react to them. People are suspicious though. A twitter account was made just to publicly make the death threats and dox her. The person called her husband a "fruitcake" during a threat which is kind of odd. Normally people would go for something harsher like "faggot". The threats themselves just felt like the main points where to make a death threat and post personal information. Also it became public very quickly she was fleeing her home because of death threats. What i find odd is that she was willing to put that information out there. If I was getting death threats I'd call the cops and not make it known to everyone on the internet that I was on the move. I don't recall anyone else ever reacting to death threats like that either. I believe she managed to make a tweet during all of this to point out how to make a donation to her non-profit organization (which is just her).

I feel bad for considering how dubious the whole thing looks. If I didn't know who Anita was I wouldn't think about second-guessing any of it but so much information about her has come out. She's used threats to further her career before. She has an iffy past. She's lied and misled people in her Kickstarter video. She's failed to create the amount of content she got 160k to do and instead spends her time getting paid to do speeches, consult on video games, while still asking for more donations. It's like if Anita said "Give me 10 bucks and I'll mow your lawn". She mows 1/3rd of it, stops, texts some friends, calls her boyfriend, plays some Candy Crush, then walks up to you and asks if you could possibly pay her more for possible future landscaping that is yet to be determined.

Nevermind. I don't feel so bad about questioning it after putting it like that.

God damn it. Either they are very fucking stupid and actually believe what they are saying or expect everyone else to be this fucking stupid to believe it.

This and TFYC statement last night, I know it sounds stupid because video games but I'm legit fucking angry about it. These fuckers are actively trying to bring everything down with them with their dying breaths. I know I sound like a shill here but if I could eat the loss I'd put my entire next pay check to TFYC... Hopefully they'll be OK with just another forty though.

I really want somebody to write a comprehensive article critizing and pointing out the hypocricy of these "gaming news" websites. Their reaction to this whole thing has not only been wierdly uniform, but it's completely show how out of touch they are with their audience.

Instead of maybe analyzing why their audience might have taken umbrage because of this scandal and looking at all the evidence (which is available online)....they've just gone with "gawd gamers are sexist neckbeards, grow up lol".

This is the third article they've written about this. I feel like this is playing out exactly like how the whole "Bill Clinton got his dick sucked" scandal went.

Except Bill Clinton isn't a fucking loser.

Or 5 guys...

She's made into a real non-profit now has she? Last time she said that people searched and found out that it wasn't non-profit.

Except Bill Clinton isn't a fucking loser.

Or 5 guys...

And he was actually pretty decent at his job and boomed the shit out of America's economy... Whereas Zoe Quinn made a very, very poor video game and has a theoretical game jam set up...

From what I heard she got blocked last time, but she's still trying.

Especially considering that $132k profit her company made last year...

FUCK the patriarchy! Funding schools, roads, power stations and such! IT'S KEEPING DA WIMMIN DOWN!

Nice of her to keep calling it non-profit then...

I wrote this a few days ago.
But in no way is that mainstream. I wanted to do a follow-up piece because I feel like there needs a mainstream address of this as well.

It might be naive of me but I legitimately think the editors who are writing these bullshit articles are actually ignorant of what's going on. That they don't go on /v/ or see the comments on /r/gaming or /r/pcgaming before they're deleted, and they certainly don't frequent the #zoequinn or #quinnspiracy tag on tumblr, which shows far different results as opposed to searching them on Twitter.

I feel like the kiwi forums should crowdsource a post of sorts, and we could push it as far away from these tight-knit communities that know everything and push it as close to a large and ignorant mass as possible.
