So I've started going through my old Game Boy library recently and I have to wonder what is your favorite classic Game Boy game and favorite memories of the system?

My favorite game would be Link's Awakening and how I ended up spending about two years playing the game and exploring every fucking nook and cranny of the island trying to beat the game. Complete with multiple lengthy groundings due to me running up the phone bill calling the Nintendo hint line at various points to get past really tricky parts (like the infamous nightmare key puzzle from the second dungeon).

While GSC were vastly superior to the RBY originals in my personal opinion and where when Pokemon really started to get good (despite what tranny faggot Poketubers want you to think), the first generation of Pokemon games are still pretty good games and were a great start for the series.

I'm happy for you, I guess, but I hate that game. Not because it is a bad game (Capcom + Zelda (should) = WIN) but because of the retarded ending. It depressed me that I went through all of that to have it be some tuna fish's dream or something? Also I didn't like all the missed opportunities for cool shit with the special ability companions you meet and only use...once.

I had similar issues with Oracle of Seasons (being too linear) and never got around to the other Oracle one.

As for my favorite Gameboy games? Gargoyle's Quest is probably my favorite along with the original Mario Land.

Capcom didn't make Links Awakening. That game was 100% Nintendo.

Also, Oracle of Seasons >Oracle of Ages. Though damn the rhythm dance sequences of both those abortions of games.

Also, I bought Gargoyles Quest right before the 3DS game shop closed as it was a game I always wanted to play but never got around to buying. It's decent but the last couple of boss fights are insanely difficult and the fact that the game never tells you WHICH of your magic blast powers you have to use to beat certain bosses is hella frustrating.

Game Boy has a great library, not quite GBA or DS quality, but still incredibly good, and much better than the NES which I find interesting since they're both 8-bit Nintendo consoles.

My favorite GB game is Pokemon Yellow, for nostalgia. It was my first Game Boy game and I played the hell out of it via Pokemon Stadium before I even had a Game Boy (never actually owned one, but did get a GBC and GBA later).

My favorite memory is grinding up teams to beat my friends in Pokemon, we would stay up all night and get our teams ready to face off. I also collected all the Pokemon (minus Mew), which was actually pretty fun.

Other classics like DK '94, Mario Land 2, and Kirby's Dream Land deserve mention.

Yeah, I agree with you there. I always played it in an emulator and am not against using save states and cheat codes when games get too frustrating. lol

It's been years since I played it. I guess I just assumed they did since they made the oracle games.

Protip to people that want a Pocket: don't, they're shit to work with in every way and have such ass battery life that you'd be better off getting one of those Lights from overseas with a beat to shit shell since it's pretty much the same thing but using AA batteries, easier to hold and modding a backlight in's not only as easy as removing the old transformer and wiring it to the first two pads on the upper left but you get a switch to turn it on and off with.

Powkiddy’s RGB30 is making waves recently for being a $80 handheld with wifi and a 4 inch 1:1 ratio 720X720 screen that’s perfect for Gameboy. Worth looking into as a much cheaper alternative to the analog pocket if you don’t mind emulation.

The Oracle games and Links Awakening are incredible, and I have a soft spot for the GBC remake of Dragon Warrior 3, although the SNES version looks better overall.

Pokémon Crystal has peak GB era sprite work and there are a few ROMhacks that add challenge without changing anything too drastic. Although someone managed to work phys/Special split into a Crystal romhack which is impressive.

Metal Gear Solid:Ghost Babel is quite good I hear.

I like the game and watch series, Wario, Kirby, and Pokémon TCG (and English patched sequel) as well.

Glad I got to experience Pokemania in its proper form, though I'll always be bummed a western Green never made it to shores to complement the fact that Japan had the full RGBY quartet for Gen 1.
TECHNICALLY, US Blue is Japan Green with Japan Blue's updated graphics. Only substantial thing Japan Blue has to offer is the difference in available Pokemon and the In-game trades.

Castlevania Belmont's Revenge is extremely underrated, being unfortunately sandwiched between Adventure (horrendous, but at least the music is good) and Legends (mediocre at best). It also has some of the best soundtracks for the whole franchise, and the Gameboy overall:

Devs were really doing magic back then with the hardware.
GBC in particular had some very weird "wait, what" things, like the port of the laser disc game Dragon's Lair
Alone In The Dark's usage of the high-color mode too

also it didn't get released but there was a port of Resident Evil 1, like afaik the actual PS1 game source code modified to run on the two buttons and dpad

I had more games on Gameboy than any other Nintendo system I think. Everyone of them I played the fuck out of, even if it was terrible.

Just look at that box art. I wasn't even big into skating but I remember playing this at school. I also remember letting a friend borrow my gameboy and he threw away my rechargeable batteries. I kept saying he owed me money and he wouldn't pay me because he said he didn't know. I'm still mad about that.

An extremely solid contra despite being short. It always seemed weird that a lot of the Konami titles were made by Ultra games on gameboy.

This was one of the ultimate gameboy games. It looked great, added alot of new mario stuff, and lasted a long time (for a kid anyway). Mario land 3 was also a great value.

This game is a perfect case study of buying a game blind before reviews were widely available.
Mortal Kombat? I love that arcade game! Sure, I'm a stupid kid who doesn't realize there's no way a gameboy can handle anything close to the arcade. I bought it, was severely dissapointed and still played the fuck out of it.

I could go on. Gameboy reminds me when games were more fun despite being of "lower quality". I'd rather play an extremely challenging short game, than an easy, drawn out game.

I didn't have a lot of GB games and most of it was shovelware tier games, but this was the first game I got and I put in a ton of hours into it. Being able to recreate Ash's team was pretty cool at the time. I had some good times abusing the item duplication glitch and doing stupid shit like giving myself infinite Master Balls and Rare Candies to just make a super team whenever I wanted.

>tfw when your siblings got GBC's and you got a Pocket
This is what happens when parents think all handhelds are the same. It wasn't that bad since we didn't have a lot of games, but having to poach a GBC if I wanted to play the new shit was kinda annoying.
