Ford Motor Company filed a US patent application that shows autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles could potentially repossess themselves if their owners miss lease or loan payments.

The idea of self-driving cars repossessing themselves might sound dystopian, but it is not surprising that automakers are considering this technology to ensure payment. Repossession is a common practice, and as we've described recently, cracks are beginning to form in the subprime auto loan market (read: here & here).

While this patent application was first filed in Aug. 2021 and formally published on Feb. 23, it could be years before Ford implements such a technology.

The patent, titled "Systems and Methods to Repossess a Vehicle," explains how a future lineup of Ford vehicles would be capable of "[disabling] a functionality of one or more components of the vehicle."

If a driver misses a car payment, the vehicle will disable air conditioning, radio, GPS, and cruise control to irritate the driver.

If the owner misses more payments, the repossession cycle will worsen. The car would emit an "incessant and unpleasant sound." Worse, the vehicle might lock out the driver on certain days until payments are made.

And still, if the lockout doesn't work and payments are missed, the vehicle could drive to a safe, nearby location for a repo team to seize it and avoid confrontation with the owner.

It is worth noting that filing a patent application does not necessarily mean the technology will be implemented, but the takeaway is a glimpse of the dystopic future.

Jailbreaking computer software/operating systems in future cars and trucks is going to become a very very lucrative black market if this his how the corpos are going to treat their customer base. That, or gutting computer systems completely in favor of pure automotive analog options.

LOL gets worse as it goes. What was that game that would send an unkillable scorpion after you if it thought you pirated it? Maybe a Serious Sam one.

You know, anti-consumer shit like this is why people are looking into making their own shit. You'll get a situation like the movie 'Robots' where there will be people who will proudly strut their junker just to spite the preppy consoomer with their soy-based, anti consumer, no fun car.

The Virgin Corpo and the Chad Nomad is going to be a thing.

Hilariously, China itself would me more than happy to help potential customers with that option. So you'll have a weird situation where the chinks would be manufacturing this goy-locked cars, they'd also make counterfeits of said goylocked cars and provide analog versions as well.

If this gets out of hand, expect people to start trying to recreate the ford model T among other older analog cars. Or motorcycles. Those are a pain to enforce.

You nailed it.

I do see this eventually being ruled as unconstitutional at some point especially if it hits someone while being repossessed or the person who owns the car just lays infront of it and it runs over him anyway.

I can see a lot of old Cold War-era designs like the Ural-4320, UAZ-469, and the Willys Jeep making a massive comeback in the consumer market, or people making their own versions of them. Simple, easy to manufacture and maintain automobiles with no frills that are also easy to field-modify as the owner sees fit.

Lmao, the ultimate in anti nigger technology.

Behold a weapon to surpass white supremacy!
If there's anything my time on KiwiFarms has taught me its that the hardest part of anti-nigger systems is trying to nigger-proof them.

For sure. The best part of those things is that they just work. The Feds used to cut Jeeps in half after selling them off for scrap to prevent their reuse but people would just replace the parts that got cut and weld the body back together and have no issues driving them around.

There are devices that will shut your car off if sent a signal because no make payments that have been around for years

This happened with John Deer, middle age farmers had to hack their own tools because John Deere stopped providing software or make them buy new stuff. This auto repo will be useful for when niggers can't make car payments but anyone with an ounce of common sense could just take the wheels off and put em on cinder blocks. Boom car can't move and hock the parts and cat. converters on ebay.

If I had the spare cash floating around, you bet your sweet ass I'd be driving a UAZ-469 right now! Not just for the ComBloc aesthetic, but also because it's stupidly easy to keep going and it's an all-terrain vehicle. Can't fucking hack something that's straight out of the 1960s in Russia, FBI!

I worked in automotive finance for ten years, and OnStar rolled out in the middle of that run- I assumed simpler repossession was one of the underdiscussed plans way back then, since one of the initial features was to disable the vehicle “in case it was reported stolen”.

Boy that takes me back. Repossession stories were either very sad or completely hilarious, and rarely boring.

Car kits are a thing

My retirement idea was always to couple self-driving cars, GPS technology and parking ordinances in one neat little package so that a car can detect when it's been illegally parked and simply drive over to my impound and honk so we can open the gate and let it in....

Also, the Rochester Q-jet is your friend for the ultimate in anti-theft: - just adjust one random screw a quarter turn clockwise and you brick the car.

And that's the thing that gets me especially with the dystopian shit our elites are proposing. None of them are niggerproof. Take the unmanned restaurant for example. Nothing is stopping Tyrone from literally cracking open the door and stealing all that good shit.

Cameras narcing you to the man? It is rayciss and it gets busted immediately.

Beautiful intricate surveillance system? Have fun trying to keep those running when Jay Shawn decides to take a piss on the substation with his buddies looting all the copper.

And the best part is, you can flaunt all the military power you want but that isn't going to stop a nigger from being a nigger. Also, in a weird round-about way, Africa may unironically become one of the best spots in terms of tech development... provided you get to the right tribes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't one of those fully autonomous McDonald's knocked over by a pack of nigs in some shithole city?

I knew Ford was on to something with those Jews. Better get one of those old T-100s and mod the shot out of it.
Or the engine that let you convert corn oil into working fuel. Seriously, there needs to be a resurgence of that engine.

Indeed. And it was beautiful. Its why it had to be "half-manned". Also, nigs are the reason why vending machines in LA are covered in metal.
