With any luck, this debacle might discourage some owners from having multiple clubs (who am i kidding)
This only happens when a club happens to make Europe by winning a cup when they aren't expected to. I am guessing this just becomes an unexpected surprise for future owners and just accept this punishment if it happens again. The multi club ownership model only falls apart when the main club doesn't get any players passing through to the minor clubs in any way. It might happen soon with City but Chelsea seem to have it figured out

PSG's former goalkeeper was left out of PSG's squad for the super cup and is now apparently on his way to Manchester City. Looking at the signings made by Manchester City this summer and past winter, I had a weird thought about City going forward. Pep Guardiola's contract expires in 2 seasons and was extended less than a year ago. The signings don't really seem like Guardiola signings but are still good signings. So either Guardiola is changing up his belief in how to play and fully change his tactics or Man City are trying to create a squad that the next manager can take in a year or two and thrive with. Guardiola could be looking at this as an opportunity to try different tactics and learn how to work with players he doesn't have control over to get some experience going into his potential next and last job, which would be managing national teams. I know its a weird schizo theory and probably won't go anywhere but it would be fun to think this is whats happening behind the scene

Leeds have replaced Bamford with his battyboy equivalent, good to see they're going back down
If the Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland all get relegated this season, then the EPL has a serious problem and I have no idea how to solve it. Assuming they all get relegated, then you have 17 teams with 3 seasons worth of squad building and income from the premier league vs championship is going to be massive. And it would mean that teams coming up will have probably an impossible task. So if relegation is basically confirmed before the season starts, what's the fun in the league when the only races are for champions and europe? The relegation battle is personally one of my favorite battles from old school premier league and if you get rid of it, you might as well be the MLS

Genuinely interested this season about teams like Newcastle and Wolves. Wolves don't look like they've upgraded at all, and Newcastle are being cucked by their main star with little time to properly look to replace him. Chances are 2 out of the 3 promoted teams will go back down at least but here's hoping there's some shock downfall this season.

I was thinking if any of the 17 teams who have been here for the past 2 seasons would get relegated, it would be Wolves and Brentford. Wolves incoming are 2 young attackers from Celta Vigo, a 27 year old Brazilian, and a left back from the Eredivisie. And they lost Cunha, Ait-Nouri, Guedes, Semedo, Sarabia, and Chiquinho. Brentford got 2 youngsters from Serie A and the Eredivisie along with Henderson and the back up keeper from Liverpool. The lost Mbeuma, Norgaard, and Flekken. Plus new manager could hurt them

Neymar's comeback season is... not going as planned, to say the least.

Keep in mind that Vasco is the prime example of a fallen giant, with four relegations under their belt in the last 20 years, and battling hard to not fall to Série B again this year.

How long was it from the game ending to the coach getting fired?

Wish the season was over
No way man. We might actually get one of the 17 to be relegated this season. Want to watch that play out while Arsenal inevitably finish in 2nd again

While the Prem League started we had the first round of the DFB cup this weekend. Unfortunately the upsets and underdog wins were rare this time. But some happened.

First, the slaughterings.
Wolfsburg achieved their highest ever DFB cup win with a 9:0 against 5th club Hemelingen. 2nd highest win this round achieved Kaiserslautern with a 7:0. Besides that we saw four 5:0 wins (Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Heidenheim and Union Berlin).

Next, the struggeling.
- Leverkusen defeated 4th tier club Großaspach 4:1 and while the result looks like a clear victory underdog put one hell of a fight. It took til the 74th minute before Leverkusen scored their 2nd goal and it needed a red card for Großaspach before. Only after a 2nd red card Großaspach fell apart.

- Freshly promoted Bundesliga club Hamburger SV barely made it to the next round with a 2:1 win against 5th tier (!) club Pirmasens. Hamburg scored the winning goal only in the extra time.
Hamburg's city rivals of St. Pauli weren't doing any better. They only won after penalties 3:2 against 4th tier club Norderstedt.

- Schalke did Schalke things and barely scrapped elimination against 4th club Lok Leipzig. Schalke too needed the extra time to win the match 1:0.

- Bundesliga club Mönchengladbach only won 3:2 against 4th tier club Atlas Delmenhorst while FC Cologne, back to Bundesliga again, only won 2:1 against Regensburg who are freshly relegated back to 3rd Bundesliga with Cologne only scoreing the winning goal in the very last seconds of the match.

- We had one match with two clubs from 2. Bundesliga, Preussen Münster versus Hertha BSC, which Hertha only won after penalties. Hertha has the most expensive squad of 2. Bundesliga, Münster one of the cheapest squads.

- Just a few minutes ago the Monday matches ended. Bundesliga club Mainz only got a close 1:0 win against Dresden who are freshly promoted to 2. Bundesliga.

And finally the fun part, the upsets!

- 1. FC Nuremberg got kicked out by 4th club Illertissen after penalties. Illertissen got a quick 2:0 lead in the 1st half. In the 2nd half Nuremberg managed to equalize and then get the 3:2 lead in the last minutes of the match but Illertissen threw everything they had at Nuremberg, got a corner kick and scored the 3:3 in the last seconds of the regular time.

- A lot of people, fans and experts (or """"experts"""") have Hannover 96 on their card as the top team of the current 2. Bundesliga season and after two matchdays Hannover is ranked 3rd with 2 wins out of 2 matches. Hannover faced 3rd tier club Energie Cottbus and Cottbus scored and Hannover did not and now Hannover can exclusively focus on the league for this season lol

- Last season 3rd tier club Arminia Bielefeld made it to the final of the DFB cup; where they got wrecked by Stuttgart. But a 3rd club in the final is a rare happening and Bielefeld got promoted back to 2. Bundesliga again so all the Bielefeld fans didn't really care about losing the final anyways and got shitfaced throughout the whole summer. Then 2. Bundesliga started and Bielefeld surprisingly won their first two matches so all the Bielefeld fans are still shitfaced.
On their way to the cup final Bielefeld eliminated 2. Bundesliga Hannover 96, then Bundesloga club Union Berlin, then Bundesliga club SC Freiburg, then Bundesliga club Werder Bremen and finally they beat the reigning champions Leverkusen.
This weekend Bielefeld and Bremen met again and it happened again. Bielefeld won. That was the 3rd ever match-up between these two clubs in DFB cup and Bielefeld is now 3:0 against Bremen. Just lol.

Right now Borussia Dortmund plays against 3rd tier club Rot-Weiss Essen.
Next week Stuttgart and FC Bayern have both their matches to close the first round bc Stuttgart and Bayern played each other for the German super cup this weekend (FC Bayern won 2:1).

Edit: Dortmund won 1:0. Another one for the category "the struggeling".

Ok so one week officially in and its got some good news on my side for the premier league (Personally I am cheering for at least 1 newly promoted side to survive since cheering for Arsenal is just pointless).

Newly promoted sides
Leeds- Grabbing a 1-0 win at home against Everton. I would classify Everton as a darkhorse for relegation this season with Moyes now and a decent transfer window. But winning the home head-to-head against them is a big step. Getting a draw on the road against them would be considered a massive win for Leeds but even splitting a win and a loss with Everton is probably enough to survive
Sunderland- This was the big one imo for survival. West Ham is a team I have pegged for a relegation battle so to get a 3-0 win at home is huge.
Burnley- Not great. Spurs look like they might start off better so this is probably a scheduling hit for Burnley but if they were to look at the season as a whole, a win or draw on the road against Spurs wasn't likely penciled into their plans

Relegation candidates
West Ham- Loss to Sunderland on the road is great news. This puts them in a massive gd and a loss against a newly promoted side. I see them potentially picking up 1 point over their next 4 games but Chelsea (H), Forest (A), Spurs (H), and Palace (H) is pretty scary for a side that looked like that to start
Wolves- This side should have been relegated 2 seasons ago but here they are. Destroyed at home by City is fun but City are not a team I would expect any of their points to come from if they are to survive. They now have Bournemouth (A), Everton (H), Newcastle (A), and then their big test of Leeds (H). If they don't pick up any points in those 4 matches, I would expect them to be aiming for 20th this season
Brentford- 3-1 loss to Forest and losing as much as they did this season puts them in as a candidate for relegation imo. I don't think they are the strongest candidate and might not be relegated but their match against Sunderland (A) will determine how much of a relegation side they truly are.

Darkhorse relegation candidates
Everton- Not likely but you can just never tell with this side. Like 80%+ of their seasons in the Premier League have been just avoiding relegation.
Bournemouth- Their attacking talent probably saves them but losing your entire backline without really replacing them is not a good look
Crystal Palace- If they drop below 14th, watch out
Fulham- Don't know how far Arsenal and Liverpool rejects can really take you in a season

Current predictions for the relegated teams

Burnley, West Ham, Wolves

So on Monday we had this match-up in the DFP cup. Yesterday, Tuesday, a bombshell went off in Münster as they kicked their team captain with immediate effect and even pressed charges against him. The reason: allegedly some shenanigans with charity money happened and some money went missing.

Not much is really known at the moment besides there is a project called "Clinic Clowns" (people dressing up as clowns to cheer up a kids in hospital) in which the player is involved. He released a statement too in which he admitted that some money was missing but that he had already paid it back. He also blames his mental health and some other issues in his family life for the issues with the charity. But he denied to have it done on purpose.

Apparently Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze is off to Arsenal after Havertz got sidelined with a serious injury. Funny thing is that Spurs were in advanced negotiations with Crystal Palace over a transfer to them over the past couple of days, but Arsenal in the last few hours have gazumped them and quickly signed him up.
