The problem with the American model in Europe is that they rely on promotion and relegation along with the fact that clubs develop their own players. American model doesn't have promotion and relegation, and they have the draft every year for young talent. I don't think it could ever happen in Europe tbh

Yeah, it probably couldn't ever work. It would take some effort to even the playing field and tbh concessions from bigger clubs who let's be honest here, the more money they have, the more power they hold and they don't really have to play ball. What would the FFF do? Kick PSG out of Ligue 1? We saw this with the whole Super League debacle; the only thing that made clubs backoff was the pushback from supporters. And even past all that we'd be getting into diplomacy territory between countries to work together to figure things out, then you have to get UEFA/FIFA into the mix. It'd just get too messy.

Spain has dipped their toes into salary caps but I'm not sure how far down the pyramid that goes or how and how well it works to begin with. I guess Barcelona barely being able to register Dani Olmo shows that there's something working, for better or for worse.

One thing is for certain though, it's a shame that it's really only the richest clubs that have a shot at glory now. I don't think we'll be seeing anymore Leicester City's in the near future, and we damn sure won't see another Red Star winning a CL.

The only real hope is for other countries to realize the EPL has the best formula for everyone getting money. Its not perfect, but having the bottom clubs get a massive amount of money that would have been going to the top teams means the league is more attractive and can be marketed better. If other countries figure it out, then the league's start becoming more competitive and so does the Champions League. But it might be too far gone for some of these countries
 
The problem with the PL structure is while yes, you are giving money to the teams at the bottom, you’re also seeing more of the same yo-yo clubs being promoted from the Championship ultimately being relegated from the Premier League the next season.

In other news, Vancouver Whitecaps are laying an Inter Milan sized egg in the Concachampions final in Mexico City vs Cruz Azul. It’s so bad that even a team as notorious for bottling as Cruz Azul have this one in the bag.

That's only a recent problem. And you either have that as an issue or just have 3 teams dominating your league like Spain

Well that relies more on tv deals than anything. The Premier League is just raking in the dough, they can afford to splash the cash on every club. It helps that it's easily the most marketable league and easiest to disseminate worldwide, for many reasons.

Speaking from specifically an American market perspective, the other leagues just don't hold a candle to the financial power of the Premier League. A quick google search tells me that La Liga's deal with ESPN is only making about half of what the Prem does from their NBC deal, and the Bundesliga a fraction of what La Liga makes. Serie A probably isn't doing much better than that either. And France? Pfft, forget about it.

Well the premier league started with the idea of becoming the biggest league in the world and set out with that goal in mind. When money started to really change things in the 2000s, they didn't allow for the top clubs to take all that money. The results speak for themselves. Burnley and Sunderland will have more cash to splash this summer than most of the top teams in Europe because of this

Meanwhile in Argentina, yesterday we had the finals for the first phase.

On one side we had Huracán, a traditional team who haven't won shit since our grandparents were children, and on the other we had Platense, a suburban side who never won shit ever.
Both left behind much more favored teams like Boca, River and Independiente on their way to the finals.

Since the Concachampions has ended let's look at Concacaf's league rankings... Looks fine i Guess but
Here's how the 27 spots for the champions cup are distributed
•6 USA (MLS)
•6 mexico (Liga MX)
•6 for Central America cup teams
•3 for Leagues cup teams (MLS and Liga MX)
•3 for Caribbean cup teams
•3 for canada.
But wait, Leagues cup is a competition that gives obvious advantages to MLS teams and its qualified teams have always been MLS. canada gives one spot to its cup, which can be played by the canadian MLS teams and they win it always.
So it's actually 10 MLS teams who get to play it while Liga MX gets 6.
Canada gets 2 automatic spots while 7 professional Leagues, 3 of those considered better by Concacaf than canada's fight for 6.
And Caribbean teams which has 4 professional leagues and some extra leagues too fight for 3 spots.
This is only one of many Concacaf's preference of Mutt teams which not even Mexico gets sometimes >:(
 
As much as I hate PSG, the whole "Mbappe demands to be treated like an emperor to stay, leaves anyways to win the CL and the moment he does PSG wins the CL" situation is just too funny to me
 
So, Ancelotti made his first match as Brazil's new head coach and it confirms that our problem wasn't necessarily tactical, but individual. Our players apparently unlearn to play as soon as they wear the NT shirt.

Carleto still has plenty of time to move things around, but if they play like they did today against Ecuador, they aren't going far next year in the World Cup.
 
We had a street festival in town this weekend. Got shitfaced there three days in a row. Luckily today is a holiday and also luckily at one little stand at the festival they showed the matches. Don't remember that much bc alcoholic reasons and didn't watch the matches as close as usually but what I saw was two clown performances from our NT. Nagelsmann and the whole squad got pretty much exposed. I don't care if these guys had a long season bc every other team had more than enough players on the pitch that also had long seasons. We better start taking the NL serious bc the other nations obviously do. Since we won the world cup in 2014 we have fallen off a lot and I mean a fucking lot. It's so weird how everybody keeps coping about our loss against Spain at the last Euro and how we got robbed bc of the not given penalty for handball when Kroos could have easily been sent off the pitch early in the match and then I wanna see how 10 Germans take on 11 Spaniards for most of the match. Germany has reached a stage of arrogance that's unbearable.

The news of a fan dying in the last minutes of the final didn't make the round but boy did the Spaniards get clowned on by everyone around. Speaking of clowning the clowning on Ronaldo is getting odd. Not a that much of a fan of him (or Messi) but he's obviously one of the goats in this sports (next to Messi). Since he turned 30 Ronaldo has had an all time record run in the national team with close to 90 goals and 3 trophies won. Saw it being mentioned here and there but there are only five other players who had such a national team run. One is from Malaysia, one from India, one from Iran, Romelo Lukaku and then Messi. I'd take any 40 year old for our NT at any time if he would only achieve half of that.

I'm not going to take national records seriously when there have been so many more games and friendlies in international football. There are also more games against weaker teams than ever before.

Brazil do the same thing, they force half the players to be from the Brazil leagues but they suck so bad.
