So can someone explain to me why Villa fired Dean Smith, if they haven't actually improved under Gerard? They haven't moved at all in terms of table position or overall points per-game ratio

Dean "Justice League" Smith is an insufferable dick, whereas Stevie G merely assaults DJs and gets away with it because Scouse mafia.

It's just the Villa owners being star fuckers.

Eriksen has been a godsend for Brentford this season. Shame him and Toney are probably going to be on their way out in the summer.

Toney has been VERY vocal to Brentford that he'd like to stay with a refined contract and by which I mean, becoming the highest earner. However as a fan of the Bee's and the way they operate, it's not happening. He's 100% sold come the Summer window, especially with the way he's handled himself in interviews beyond the club mandated media. I think he'll end up at Liverpool as Takumi Minamino's replacement.

This leaves Brentford with Forss, DaSilva, Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo. All likely keen to take the helm at front. Plus transfer rumours circulating upon Mykhaylo Mudryk, Lewis-Potter and a Watkins reunion, I am confident in Brentford's constant ability to reshuffle the deck when a core player departs. Been the business model for a while now, going all the way back to DJ Campbell in League 1.

Eriksen, I'd like to think will stay. Nobody else was willing to give him a chance. Plus the Danish connection surrounding the team helps

I've heard rumours that Eriksen might go to Newcastle and I think they were interested in Toney too. Given Brentford's propensity to sell anyone slightly promising, they definitely will be gone come next season. Baring in mind they have got a new stadium to pay for now too. No doubt they will fill the void though, just like they did when Benrahma and Watkins left a few seasons ago.
 
So Everton are 2 points behind Burnley but have a game in hand. Watford and Norwich have all but mathematically been relegated since Idk how they make up 9 and 10 points to get back up to safety.

I see 3 points realistically that Everton can pick up with Watford. Chelsea need to win and put some distance between them and that champions league race. Arsenal at the end of the season will need all the points to try and beat out Tottenham for 4th. Leicester, Brentford, and Palace are all teams that should beat them unless they have just checked out.
I can see Burnley picking up anywhere from 3 to maybe 7 points. The back to back Villa games could give them a draw or win in one of those 2 games which would be a valuable point. Watford should be a win if they want to stay up. Tottenham should be a loss but here's hoping (St Totteringham's day is always a fun celebration), and they might get a win vs Newcastle who might not be playing for anything and are probably safe (considering they shot all the fucking way to 9th)
I thought Leeds would be much safer but holy shit do they need a win today. City, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all teams who need 3 points against them so they could only pick up points vs Palace, Brentford, and Brighton. Luckily for them, Brentford and Brighton should be safe by the end of the season so they might be able to do something

Leeds really can't pass for shit and with the amount of room they were leaving for Zaha I'm surprised they weren't punished for it, they really needed to win that game against Palace. I don't think 1 point is enough. I hope they buy some more defenders next season with that Raphinha money and hope that nobody else gets injured. Without Bamford they're lacking someone who can actually score, James is really good at feeding balls in but can't finish himself and Harrison doesn't quite have the consistency to fill that role himself. Cooper kept sending balls to nobody, Greenwood didn't do fuck all after coming on and Koch kept giving the ball away. I think Phillips not playing for months has cost him any form he had prior too which is a shame because I was really holding out for his return so he could salvage their midfield. Hopefully Everton fail to gather anymore points, it would be a shame for Leeds to go down.

See Leeds might not get enough points, but they have a 5 point gap over Everton that I don't see Everton able to close honestly. I think Leeds will do just enough to be ok

My thoughts:
Chelsea will be seeking to cement Champions League football, but I expect some pity against Lampard. Everton may actually benefit from the fact that Leicester have to play Roma three days before them. If I was Leicester, I'd willingly sacrifice the points if it meant a guarantied chance to win European silverware. Watford is whatever at this point. You'd have to be an especially bad team to lose against them right now. Brentford won the prior clash and I hope they win again so they can ensure a better payment rate for survival. Palace and Arsenal are unpredictable, as they yo-yo with form.

Burnley's encounter with Watford is a must win. Villa are dire form (Only 4 wins since the start of January) and back to back defeats may result in Gerard getting the sack come the Summer window. Newcastle losing to Burnley (with the monetary differences aside) would be a poetic end to the season, with them buying out Wood for £20mil. Spurs I fully expect to win.

Leeds, I'd love for you to just park the bus and tie with City to open up the title race. But we know you are going to be slaughtered. Arsenal and Chelsea cannot let anymore points go with European football as addressed with the other ties. Brighton, it depends on if Neal actually wants to score. Which brings us to the final game. Brentford and Leeds developed a mini-rivalry in the Championship, which only heated up further when Pontus (Leeds captain at the time) left them for Brentford, stressing that "They actually have aspirations" amongst other paraphrased statements. I assure you, Brentford will do EVERYTHING possible to win the last game of the season and will likely invade the pitch if it meant Leeds went down.

If anything my comments on Villa's form shouldn't be taken lightly. They only sit 3 points adrift of Leeds, 6 from Burnley and 8 from Everton. Plenty of drama can transpire. The remaining ties they have are:

Norwich (H)
Burnley (A)
Liverpool (H)
Palace (H)
Burnley (A)
City (A)

They blow that Norwich match and it changes the entire dynamic of this fight!
 
City vs. Madrid should be good today. I hope Madrid doesn't use the same strategy as they did with PSG, when they were essentially playing for a scoreless draw knowing they had the second leg at home.

Edit: lol, City scores in the 2nd minute. Looks like Madrid will have to go for it this time.

The amount of chances City create is insane. A proper number 9 should be scoring 40+ goals a season in this squad.

On a side note, I'm thinking that getting rid of the away goal rule has been a masterstroke, these games seem to be nonstop action now. Away teams no longer come and try to shut up shop after a slight lead, and neither do home sides.

And another cracking game of CL football this season. Benzema's audacity btw. I expected this to be a good one but not this damn good.
 
Damn, the City vs. Real match was a blast.

Then I turn on to see sudaca footy and by God, it's a whole different beast. Don't get me wrong, it is entertaining, but for entirely different reasons than what makes European competitions entertaining - Namely, the fights, the ugly displays of unsportsmanship, the fans in the stands trying hard to stand out in any way whatsoever... Mostly anything that has nothing to do with the actual level of football being played in the pitch, because even we know it's decidedly lacking. Inferior, if you will. But we like it that way, for better or for worse.
