Fucking hell Rangers in a Europa League semi-final? Never thought I'd see the day.

So remember how I mentioned UEFA was considering adding two "legacy" spots to the Champions League? Thankfully the Premier League is opting to vote against it.

But it got me thinking a bit. Now assuming it would be based upon coefficient standings, just who would get in? If everything was to suddenly halt in place and we have another COVID season occur, Manchester United and Roma would receive these bonus spots due to prior legacy performances and the current league standings respectively (7th and 5th). However if things continued in place and Roma was to win the Europa League, either Spurs or Arsenal would obtain that bonus position (since one of them may finish 5th) making the top four fight utterly pointless. It would also drastically alter the Europa and Conference standings for the English sides, as Wolves and Palace would be given entry via proxy. Palace in the Conference League, what a miserable thought.

What if a rule was put in place that say, prevented some sort of overlap. Say for example, if a team from your country wins the Champions League, they must forfeit the legacy spot or some nonsense? Since Chelsea are the current cup holders, you'd have to scroll fairly far down spots to 19 and 20 in the current coefficient rankings to get some sense of variety in Villarreal or Lyon; both of whom are positioned outside of automatic qualification spots. I use variety loosely as it would just be another Spanish or French side, rather than English.

"But Anchor, these are the current standings? Surely UEFA would use the ten year system instead?"

Okay. Let's run with that hypothetical too. Manchester United and Arsenal would still obtain those positions. Shocking I know?! However if we again, run some bullshit rules and limitations on countries per-entry and some other nonsense... You'd again, have to scroll all the way down to rank 22 for FC Basel. Why the fuck would UEFA, the money-hogs that they are, want to platform FC Basel?

Now we know this concept was pitched to encourage more money matches to dismiss the idea of a larger super league. We know that outright! But this system in place would only do further damage to Manchester United's "instant access pass" if things continue as they are for the Devils. Tottenham edge ever closer to leap-frogging them in terms of points, even more so as the coefficient updates with every passing season.

tl:dr - You will suffer Harry Maguire in some capacity if given a choice by UEFA

Sean Dyche worked miracles with the limitations at Burnley. Even more so thanks to those awful yank owners placing the club into further debt (THANKS EFL) rather than enhancing it. I foresee a few players leaving in the upcoming transfer window.

Nick Pope - Competing for the England shirt with Pickford and Ramsdale. I woudn't be surprised if he ends up at Villa or promotion chasing Fulham,
James Tarkowski - 100% see him going to Leicester City. They showed interest during the winter break.
Maxwel Cornet - Newcastle loves splashing cash on pacing wingers with no substance.
Matěj Vydra - World cup is upon us and he'd want more game time if he is to represent his nation.

I have to imagine that Dyche was on thin ice for a while and was playing for his job. The loss to Norwich was probably the final straw. There has to be a lot of stuff that happened behind the scenes that we may never know. Staying up in the premier league seems like such a huge deal that firing a club legend on the chance that someone could turn it around in 7 matches (there is 1 game that will be managed by 3 people which always works well)

As for your players moving

Would Villa buy Nick Pope with Martinez being an amazing keeper this season? I would imagine that an upcoming promoted team or a mid table team might look into him but I just can't see Villa taking him

Tarkowski is an english born center back so if Burnley could sell him to Leicester, that will fetch a really pretty penny

Would Newcastle really go for another Burnley player of the summer? I feel like Chris Wood was a panic buy. They needed a striker and Burnley were probably one of a few clubs willing to make a deal

Matej Vydra plays for the Czech Republic and they didn't qualify

Just once can we have a women's tournament without someone whining.

Hosts England are playing at Old Trafford (70,000), the AMEX (31,800) and St Marys (32,505). All the other big names (Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Sweden) are all playing at venues that hold more than 10,000. The smallest venue holds 7,000 and is hosting Italy, Belgium and Iceland, and at the last women's Euros in the Netherlands the average crowd for non-Netherlands games was around 4,000.

I don't think the journalists assigned to report on the womens game know anything about football. They just know how to complain

Arsenal continue to Arsenal. They've now got Chelsea, United and West Ham back to back.

Also happy day's for Brentford. From regelation favourites to start the season, now sitting a point from 9th place.

In other news, seems no one wants 4th place as Spurs just did a Spurs.
Somehow United is still in the running. Remaining schedules don't look good for any of the contenders.

Arsenal has the game in hand but it's against Chelsea. It's pretty wide open to whichever team shoots themselves in the foot the least amount of times.

Between slapping a phone out of an autistic kid's hand and now losing his newborn son, holy shit has Ronaldo had a bad week.
