it does make me wonder how on earth something like this happens in the first place.
You see, I'm more curious about the people attending. I've met a good handful of first responder furs and every single one states they would never let their job find out, as it would just lead to bullying.

I can see concern over military garb being a thing, but also people faking being ex-military or cops ruining it. It's... an odd choice of panel, although i could see a booth where people post stories of how being furry helps them with PTSD being actually interesting. Sadly, i doubt that would ever be a thing.

But as a veteran, why would you even bother patronizing such an event even if they changed their minds? Their initial call was to tell you to pound sand because they had to make room for gay niggers. Any self respecting former serviceman would turn around and never look back. They showed their true colors.

To play devil's advocate, some areas have only 1 or maybe 2 furry cons in their area (can't speak for Georgia, I'm Canadian) so they might just be like beggars can't be choosers. Most furries who don't fit the "common acceptable" mold (military, cops, Christian, straight or white male etc) just expect open contempt as a baseline. Also, they could ghost the con & meet at a nearby mall or restaurant for a veteran or first responder event. Still shitty of FWA to say no, mind you

Anthrocon rejected a panel for model train enthusiasts. It's not exactly a big drama, I just found the replies pretty funny.

First they came for the furry veterans and first responders, and I did not speak out because I was not a veteran or first responder.
Then they came for the furry model train enthusiasts, and I did not speak out because I was not a model train enthusiast.
Then not much happened after that (they did not come for me because I do not attend furry panels).
