🦊 Furry Furry Convention Drama - Because you can't have a couple thousand dog fucking enthusiasts under the same roof without shit hitting the fan

Haven't seen or heard of too many online cons in general lately, though. Not since everything opened back up and people are, for the most part, operating how they were pre-2020. Was at a convention (not furry) recently and it was rather surprising to see just how many people were there and acting as if the last 2-3 years never happened.

I think they will eventually peter out within the next 2-3 years as demand for them diminishes and/or the convention organizers feel it's more a money/resource sink that could be better utilized elsewhere.
I don't have the inside angle on this, but I'd be surprised if it was a money sink. Furality got 15,000 people to pay a minimum $25 to attend their VRChat con this year. Sure, that's less per-person fees than a physical con, but it's more attendees than even Anthrocon. And surely the expenses are smaller for an event that doesn't need a physical presence. There are plenty of people who for whatever reason can't or won't attend an in-person con, so I would guess these virtual cons aren't going away.

If you're going to get a white collar job as the type of furry who goes to conventions, it's almost certainly going to be in tech given that tech doesn't require any human interaction to be successful at (reducing the importance of social skills and the likelihood of sexual harassment lawsuits). There are probably marketer furries and lawyer furries and the like, but those people are at least high-functioning enough to pretend to be normal most of the time to keep their jobs, therefore reducing the likelihood that they'd be the convention type.
I know of BoozyBadger and Laguna Crale.

Sometimes I think there’s some kind of bias making it seem like all furries and troons work in tech. I think the ones that work in tech are able to indulge in their shit more often, and they’re able to uncloset because of how the tech industry tolerates them.

Meanwhile a furry who works at like McDonalds or Amazon has to just crank it to shit from /gfur/ on 4chan.
A long time ago the meme was more that furries were dirt fucking poor because like 90% of Furry was people working fast food or NEETing it. There was always that rarified group of tech people that even then were overrepresented because they had the means to get online.

This is also a big reason why artists used to not be able to be full-time, so few people had the cash. Demographic shifts and Patreon changed that.

Awfully quiet in this thread since BLFC started.... IMG_20231101_225817_434.jpg

Must be a slow week in the world of furry convention drama.

Get a room party, you degenerates.

It's a furry convention, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sort of drama that comes out after everyone has gotten home and settled down.

During the last night(?) of BLFC there was another (not intentional, but still funny) chlorine incident. I'm too lazy to get posts about it, but apparently in a couple of the hottubs there was an insanely dangerous amount of chlorine put into them which lead to some furries suffering chemical burns.

Protip: If you get into any treated body of water and your skin feels soapy/slimey, get out and take a shower asap

Also during the entire con someone with a Flipper hacktivist device was crashing iPhones and Android phones with some bluetooth exploit

So far the only thing I know about was day one (Monday) supposedly a whole room of people were kicked out of the GSR because one of them OD'd on ketamine and 911 had to be called. Other than that it was a surprisingly quiet and "normal" con.
I know a couple guys on staff and can confirm this. Honestly not necessary, but so much of that stuff goes unreported on *sigh*

BLFC's been quiet because it happens at the Grand Sierra in Reno. A lot of the stuff are furries themselves so they get away with a lot more.

That's really funny. I saw they made an announcement on the telegram about someone jamming staff radios but I did not know about the phone crashing with a flipper.
Here are both posts about the "interference device" and the toxic chlorine pool.

The cyberrangers are backtracing!

The only way you're going to get caught ping of deathing phones is if they see you fucking with your Flipper. Put that shit on auto and put it in your pocket.

Can someone explain to a tech retard like me what a flipper is and what it does to phones?
A Flipper Zero - and I'm assuming that's what they're using since it has bluetooth fuckery libraries and is popular - is a 'noob friendly' 'hacking device'. They've been banned various places because it basically lowers the barrier of entry for real-world attacks.

There has been a recent set of exploits involving bluetooth connection request spamming and you can do various things with it, like denial of service on the phone or trying to fuzz the bluetooth stack. As that article explains one of the custom firmwares for the Flipper is good at doing these attacks.
