Necroing this thread because FTL just got a 117 MB patch out of the blue, breaking mods in the process.

What did it add? No-one knows, as there are no patch notes.

According to /v/, the credits were changed because one of the two main developers trooned out:

One of the developers has finally explained in a Steam Discussion (Archive) post what the update was for, they wanted to update the audio library within the game to fix issues which in turn broke game audio even more because they fucked it up somehow.

Either way the update seems to have been reverted, for now.

Hey All,

Apologies for the lack of post here to clarify the recent small update. We've had some problems with our audio library and attempted to update it to solve those problems. It seems that the updated version created its own problems, so we've reverted it back now.

As with any update we do, it'll come with some minor changes that build up over the years that haven't justified an update for their own sake. I don't have a change list of those small things, but none of it should impact gameplay in any meaningful way.

This game has not been abandoned and will never be abandoned as long as I am able to continue maintaining it. FTL is important to us beyond just a product we sell. We remain a very small team and will likely continue to make mistakes like this one while trying to keep the game operating well for everyone over the decades.

We have no control over mods and cannot guarantee our changes don't create problems on that front. In this case, I would not have expected this update to impact mods. But if our updates cause problems for mods in the future that cannot be resolved without our help, I'd encourage modders to reach out to us directly. We appreciate the love and care that has gone into mods and want to support them, we just don't have the team size and bandwidth to check compatibility for every change we make.

We are revisiting alternative solutions to the audio library problems. We will likely have a new update in the coming weeks, and I will make a post here to discuss anything that comes up around it.

Thank you, as always, for playing our games, and please be kind to one another.

Matthew

Absolutely adoring Void War even though I have a habit of throwing god-tier runs by having my commander be on the ship I'm about to violently tear apart with a demon lance/mirrored firing command salvo.

funny how they had to actually revert the game update
