The French government on Wednesday dissolved the far-right Catholic party Civitas, accusing it of advocating war against the state, inciting hatred in society against LGBTQ people, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism.

Following a Cabinet meeting, government spokesman Olivier Veran announced the decision to dissolve Civitas, which had operated as an association since 1999 before becoming a political party in 2016.

Civitas views human rights as a means to undermine Christian civilization, he said, adding that the organization is harmful due to its promotion of hatred, anti-LGBTQ sentiments, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitic rhetoric.

According to Veran, Civitas promotes a hierarchy among French citizens, with these clearly anti-Semites and Islamophobes.

He accused the movement of attempting to "declare war on the state," including by using "force."

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin also stated on the social media platform X that the values promoted by the movement have no place in France.

In recent years, the Civitas movement gained notoriety for its anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Darmanin called for the party's dissolution on Aug. 8 in response to Civitas member Pierre Hillard's anti-Jewish remarks.

The movement, which calls itself a "traditionalist Catholic lobby," aims to "re-Christianize France" and has used anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Now do that to the most prominent far-left party. I'm pretty sure they don't consider Israelites as human.
France has said it's going to deport anti Semites. I doubt it'll ever apply this to the millions of migrants and Arabs in their population.

France dissolved Generation Identitaire for the same reasons: they were enemies of the state, all because they didn't want to be overrun by migrants. They also tried to do it to the Yellow Vest movement.

You know it's bad when Germany's "far right" party keeps growing despite threats of bans while the French surrender. Actually, that's par the course.

I'm not familiar with the French system and the article is short on details.

That's all it takes to dissolve a rival political party in France? For the ruling party of the day to say so?

There's no legal process? No "independent" elections body? No parliamentary vote?
In Turkey the government can dissolve parties and even ban individual people from politics. In the past this was used to boot Islamists out of the government, along with actual military coups of elected governments that they thought were trending towards Islamism. Eventually the Islamists (with some help from George Soros) built up enough critical mass that they were able to take over key institutions, neuter the military and then seize complete power. So now in "democratic" Turkey the Islamists are guaranteed to never lose power unless something truly catastrophic happens.

If there's a lesson for French dissidents to learn from this party and the Yellow Vests it's that they didn't go far enough.

Of course they didn't go far enough. Protests, riots, and general strikes are just another fun sportsball at this point for the fr*nch

European modern "democracy" in action. And make no mistake.. This is EXACTLY the kind of stuff the US left and elites are talking about when they whine about the US system being broken. They that aren't allowed to do shit like this.

When you read the program of Germany's so called far right party you might think you read the program of the conservative party a couple of years ago. While it certainly has members of extremists in their ranks so far it hasn't caught on. And the last elections have shown that even normal voters have switched. now it's not only those who are angry voting AFD it's also those who are usually content with the status quo. And nobody learns from it. Imho every national party must currently celebrating private cheers with how free speech is shining lights on the dregs of society and they can proudly say "see we did warn you but you wouldn't listen!"
