Global Server Workaround v1.0

This Workaround downloads serverips from a specific URL on every Freelancer start.
To get a fresh server list, you need to restart Freelancer.

Also, this Workaround patches Freelancer.exe to query an alternative global list server.

Looks like some people are still playing, too.

Yep. Its honestly impressive both how long Freelancer has lasted and how many people still play it. I play Freelancer off-and-on (get the urge every couple of years, quit after about a month, come back) and its very shocking how enduring it seems to be.

I'm down for butt stuff in space. I'll play around with the server stuff on my old raggedy desktop. Kind of got a lot of non-farm related stuff happening so I may not be able to give this task the attention it deserves.

Freelancer is fun for two reasons, firstly it's not autistic when it comes to being a space sim, it's basically WW2 dogfighting in spacecrafts, and distances are about so close you never spend more than 10 minutes traveling from location to location. Secondly the game actually has a interesting lore and world building. It's a fun mystery/conspiracy storyline in a genre that usually never does more than the usual "go here and kill every federation/rebel spacecraft"

I don't think anything's going to happen, the IP is owned by Microsoft who would rather sit on it forever than let anyone else touch it, but my god I wish there was a GOG version with the HD patch baked in. I never managed to get it running on lunix.
