Why is this a thing?
How about finishing and fixing the game mode they working on for years before Battle Royale was even a big trend. You know, The Safe The World Zombie Mode?
There are many people supporting and payed for that game mode, they spoke out many issues to make it even better but yet, they will get less in return.
Better stay trendy and making some Mula!

It’s one of the biggest movies of all time meeting one of the biggest games of all time. It’s not too shocking to think of why this would happen.

And apparently while the Russos were editing Infinity War they played Fortnite a shit ton on their time off, so they decided to give Epic a call.

Of course, I can understand by merging two of the most beloved/hyped Entertainment sources as a Buisiness practice and selling it for advertising, will succeed mostly with flying colours, no doubt.
But just clashing that 2 totally different media entities, that have nothing to do with eachother seems really "Out of place" or pretty forced.

Literally catering to the lowest common denominator with the biggest normie cash grab they could find. Way to go Epic Games.

They're releasing a bunch of "Not-Avengers/Justice League" Superhero skins and edgy Military skins at the same time. It's pretty sad, even for Fortnite.

This entire Thanos thing looks, sounds, and probably plays like something a 12-year old edgelord would mod into a game. It's gloriously cringy.

Why do people like Fortnite so much? You're only playing until you die. At least other shooters let you respawn and actually play the game until the end.
the adrenaline & suspense of having one life, playing on essentially hardcore mode a la Diablo 2, and not having to actually play well to get ahead(hiding and running is viable as long as other players are killing each other elsewhere). If you're knocked out right away, then yeah it's a shit FPS experience. If you survive long enough or win though, it's a high that you wouldn't get in TF2 or Overwatch unless you were playing at a very high level of skill or get a great setup for Play of the Game.

I don't play it, but I see the appeal. Cheap thrills, low barrier for entry, riding a flavor of the month trend. I've seen teen girls buy PS4's to play this after their boyfriends and brothers got obsessed, that's pretty shocking behavior IMO.
