Alonso is on the first season of a 2 year contract. I don't see Alpine Tring to shift him out as he's pretty much there to help them develop and get a good start on their 22 car. Expect that car to heavily favour Alonso's driving style since that is what he basically said he's here to do with this season being he get back into it ready for 22.

The absolute state

Verstappen and Perez knocking it out of the ballpark.
Norris on 2.
Russel on 9.
Hamilton and Waterboy doing rather badly.
Gasly and Tsunoda doing very well.
Both AMs in Q3.
Pretty amazing Qualifying, if this is just half an indication for the race, it's gonna be a banger of a blowout.

I do wonder what will happen with Vettel, that situation was pretty messy. It looked like he wanted to dive inwards to make room for Alonso just as he was committing to the same line. While I hope that Vettel won't be punished, I could totally understand if he got a penalty, but that part of the track is notoriously awkward for allowing other cars to pass.

But it will be telling if Bottas will receive a 2 year contract as well.
I just wonder if Hamilton will get his other wishes granted - such as being a brand ambassador, being allowed to install his precious POCs in every level of Mercedes structure and so on.
If the part with bringing in more people solely based on their skin color comes true I expect Hamilton to have Ferrari-level strategies. Clown mode activate

Next year might get really interesting. Mercedes is according to the words of toto focusing on 2022 and only bringing the already planned 2021 updates out but nothing more. And ironicaly Mercedes won more allowed wind tunnel time due to their loss of position in the championship. Funny that

Also:
Radio shortly before Vettel blocking Alonso.
While the pitcrew did tell him that Alonso was coming some time in advance, they also said that everything behind him was clear and right before the incident, the engineer literally goes "everyone behind you slow".
Might be miscommunication, the engineer lists the driver's behind Vettel and ends with "Alonso 2" as in "Alonso two (seconds behind)" and Vettel might have taken that as "Alonso, too, (behind you)".

The decision of the stewarts should be announced soon. Apparently, Bottas was called in, too, for slowing down in front of Vettel.

Edit:
Yep, it's official, Vettel got a 3 place grid penalty for impeding Alonso.
“The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 5 (Sebastian Vettel), the driver of car 14 (Fernando Alonso) and team representatives and reviewed video evidence.
“ALO was on his fast lap just before the end of Q2. When he approached the last two corners (9 and 10), there was still a queue of 3 cars preparing for their final qualifying lap. VET was the last car in this line and impeded ALO and as a result, ALO had to abort his final qualifying lap.”
Valtteri Bottas and Carlos Sainz were also investigated by the Stewards for ‘driving unnecessarily slowly in the entry of turn 9 and turn 10’ at the same time, however no further action was decided for both incidents.

Pretty nice, you pass a car, slow down, the car behind you impedes someone else, who has to throw away his lap and the sandwiched guy takes the blame. The AM engineers messed up when they didn't tell Vettel about Alonso and Vettel was in Alonso's way, but to see the others get off scott free is just pure bollocks. Second time this season Vettel gets a penalty after being jumped during an outlap and then someone else making a mistake with him being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Edit2:
I'm legit pissing boiling blood of rage.

Fuck this. Just read that mid paragraph. Fuck FIA.
Apparently, the report for Vettel mentions that he was overtaken by a couple cars who slowed down in front of him, which caused the situation, but do we want to penalise Mercedes for being at least partially at fault by doing something the FUCKING race director himself said was a no-go? Nah, that would make Toto cry bitter tears and we can't have that.

Just check out all those zero other drivers blocking Bottas! Nothing the poor lad could do but slow down to a crawl, blocking everyone behind him.

It really depends on how much chinese microdick Alpine is willing to suck in exchange for that sweet, sweet forced-labour-camp-generated-yuan dosh.
It would be quite a shame for Alonso, if he was thrust out of F1 after one season without anywhere to go... but to be honest, he had his shot at F1 a long time ago and it would be better to see new people instead of the umpteenth meandering "comeback" that ultimately means a driver is stuck somewhere in the midfield.

All that being said, if there's a chinese driver, I just hope they don't add their brand of "Yes Xi Jinping, fuck my human rights harder! Social Credit FTW!!!"-propaganda into F1.
We've already got a mouthful with this BLM crap.
Things is that if he wins Formula 2, Alpine pretty much has no choice but to give him a ride next season (Since Formula 2 doesn't allow the champ of a previous season to return for the next season). But unlike Ferrari, who was able to put Mick in a Haas seat until they're ready to alienate either Leclerc or Sainz, Alpine doesn't have a B team they put the Chinaman in. Now if they had an Indycar team like McLaren or a Formula mEme team, they could put him there until Fernando is all good and ready to retire. Or has Alpine seen enough of Ocon and want to trade out the Frenchman for a Chinaman?

Another thing, how is Fernando not ready for retirement? The dude's 39 and already has his two world titles. Or is he trying to snag the most experienced F1 driver title away from Kimi?

A few weeks ago, we were talking about how Hamilton won't be able to stand up to the pressure of competition and how he'll most likely crack sooner or later.

Looks like we weren't wrong:

Dude came in 4th. That's still a very good starting position and close enough to the pole to get ahead with a good start... yet this toddler is sniffling like his engine blew up and he has to start from the pits.
God, can you imagine if Russel managed to finish ahead of Hamilton and Bottas in this race? :story:

The problem Alpine have is they don't have any seats available for next season unless they have some.sort of get out clause in someone's contract. Alonso is there tol end of 22 season and Ocon til end of 24 season.

Its likely that winning the F2 is going to see him shunted as one of those who can't continue there and also can't get a seat in F1 as one isn't open.

Alpine might be able to negotiate his way into a Williams as even though they use merc engines they are technically independent of merc. All that China money and both Williams driver's contracts are up end of this season so it's not impossible. Plus Zhou and Aitkin are both rumoured to be on for a Williams drive next season.

Williams will probably go with the driver that has the biggest chequebook. With Hambone staying at M-B, I can't see George getting promoted even if Bottas is dropped. Latifi is probably easier for Williams to get rid of, assuming another pay driver takes his place.

Y'know... Latifi would be a good fit as Hambone's new cellmate. There's no way he'd come close to dethroning Da Kang, and the M-B car would make him look almost as competent as Bottas.

Light drizzle at moment, but doesn't sound like it will get heavier and cause the need for inters/wets.

Bottas gets ahead of Hamilton then just happenes to slow down and let him back past. Oh yeah Toto you really let them race.

Eh I can see Bottas slowing down cause of Perez's off-track moment kicking up a lot of dust. Honestly I'm more shocked that he overtook Hamilton in the first place.

5 second penalty for Lando. I wonder if Checo would have received a penalty if he was still ahead of Hambone...

Edit: Ninja'd.

At least the stewards are consistently shithouse. Checo got 5 seconds for the racing incident with Leclerc, which is just as much of a crap decision as Lando wearing a 5 second penalty for the earlier incident with Checo.
