What is that "Mr Saturday" refering to? Or rather, to whom?

Its their high intellect deep nickname for George Russell, you see he always outqualifies his teammate and qualifying is on a Saturday. I know it's quite hard to comprehend due to the shear genius of it all but if you watch SkyF1 enough they will give you the full thesis on how it all came about.

Now that I know, my life has actually become less rich.

It's also a tad respectless, like Russel hasn't shown his ability to outperform his teammate during the race as well. Guess they won't ever shut up about it once he actually pulls off a decent qualifying today.

Most definitely. Sky has this unique ability to totally put me off a driver. As soon as they decide its time to start jacking them off and all you hear as their "commentary" is the slapping sound I find all enthusiasm I have for that driver to do well goes right out of the window.

Yep however no one ever sees it and he got unlucky that RK got a point last year and NL has the 3 11ths so he's below them in the table which is what most people only care about and sticking the slowest car out of Q3 regularly is a big thing. Not to mention we don't really know how good RK and NL are.

15-3 in 2019 and 7-2 this year when both cars finish.

Yeah they have that ability which is a shame since GR seems like a really nice guy, was the only one to send RG a message when the news came out he didn't have a drive for next year and stood up for Albon when people were questioning his ability.

Edit: .026! give that boy a merc and boots he can fit in.

Russel didn't manage to outperform Bottas, but still kept up with him to 0.026s or something thereabouts. Still a chance of him winning, if he nails his start and keeps his shit together.

Albon performed poorly, again and Leclerc somehow dragged that Ferrari to P4, however he managed that. Strange how they had to use Vettel to give him some slipstream so he'd reach Q3 and suddenly the car goes forth place.

part of me wishes we could get James Allen back, I liked his commentary the most, even more than Murray Walker. He and Martin Brundle were golden, they could always impart the right amount of energy without shouting too loud. And it might just be me from watching replays but the commentary seemed to be softer back then, in my opinion better balanced between the cars and the voices.

No matter who you prefer commentating the sport we can at least all agree Simon Lazenby should fuck off.

Some other news in light of Alonso being in the "young driver test" Racing point are requesting to run Vettel and Ferrari are asking to run Seinz. The interesting rumour though is Red Bull might be looking to trial Perez which when asked Horner just suggested it was an interesting notion running non-young drivers in the test and that they should see if Nigel Mansel is available. Horner is usually pretty jovial but that is often used for deflection so are they interested in trying Perez out in that car? I mean if they can they obviously should.

Here's a thought...because Russel is still in contract with Williams for next season, remember that whole ordeal earlier this season. Lewis Hamilton signs 1 year deal, then Mercedes signs Russel and Bottas, and we get classic teammate battles (like Villeneuve vs. Hill, Hamilton vs. Roseberg) for the world championship in 2022.

I think Hamilton will keep his seat simply because marketing people believe he is simply far too valuable to drop no matter what sort of a sum he demands.
Assuming that Hamilton wants to keep racing. For all we know, he might decide to retire on a high note.

Irrespective of Hamilton's immediate plans, it would appear that M-B's driver succession planning is coming together nicely.

Hamilton is an attention whore, no way he would give up on all the attention and power to prosletise that his current position gives him. While he's where he is he can come out with his woke nonsense and have Mercedes back him, Liberty media cuck the entire sport to him and get ass pats of the African American celebrity crowd he so wishes he was one of. If he leaves it stops being "formula 1 world champion says x" in outlets that are supposedly about sports and becomes "ex F1 driver said x" in some shitty pandering woke site. That plus no way he would give up the opportunity to be the driver who won the most championships which is pretty much guaranteed next season if he stays to hold the record jointly.

The amount Hass will be making from that contract I think they'll be cool with it. Mazepin SR is in with Putin being a former president of Gazprom and now basically owning all the chemical companies in Russia (also some dodgy deals in tinpot African nations). Haas hasn't had a good time with sponsors the last few seasons (crazy energy drink company anyone). Gene could well even be seeing this as his way to cash out now he's discovered F1 isn't as easy to just win at as the American motorsports.

I'm sure he'll soon calm down, a lot of young drivers seem to pull that sort of shit in the lower series but they soon get it knocked out of them in F1, don't forget Vestappen had a flare for the ridiculous defensive moves for a while. He got 2x5s penalties for his moves and 2x2 penalty points (bringing him to 11) so ended up finishing 9th overall.

Plus an additional final thought I had after submitting this. Pulling that shit at Hass will end up in a frank discussion with Steiner, probably not what you want to be doing.

The best we can hope for is Hamilton making a massive blunder by assuming he can dictate his demands to Mercedes and sign yearly contracts in an attempt to squeeze ever more demands out of them, just to find out that they simply replace him with Russel the first chance they get.
This won't happen, though, Hamilton is a woke fool, but he knows that he can't overstretch like this. He'll sign a 2 year contract this month and we'll be stuck with his ugly tooth gap for the foreseeable future. If Mercedes gets one season like Ferrari has now, he might leave, but as long as they keep winning, he won't.

From Mercedes point of view, they don't really care who rakes in the victories and they certainly have no investment in Hamilton's personal legacy. If they hired Mahaveer Raghunathan and he dropped one record-lap after the other, showing that literally anyone can win in this car, they wouldn't give a shit how bad this made Hamilton look - to the contrary, it would elevate the position of their own engineering (and I would not be surprised if there were a couple engineers a bit salty about how Hamilton is paraded around as this wonderkid, when the car is the most significant factor in his records).
And on that note, Russel has a contract for next year with Williams, but given how much cheaper his contract would be in comparison to Hamilton's demands (not to forget: Russel doesn't want to abolish the meritocratic work ethic that made Merc what they are), Mercedes could easily pay Williams a wad of cash to free Russel.

The only thing holding back Mercedes is the fear of bad publicity, if they abondoned Hamilton. He'd raise a stink and make it a race issue (cause that is literally the only thing he knows how to do), so there's that. And now I wonder if one of Hamilton's demands would eventually be to give his cockpit to another black driver...

Yeah, Kvyat was like that, too and he had to eat shit for his behaviour. I mean, he rammed Vettel 3 times in two races and his boss slapped himback into the Alpha Tauri (wouldn't surprise me if FIA had a hand in this as well). Any young driver doing this shit is severely punished and Yuji Ide lost his super license over a really stupid move. If Mazepin attempts to run someone off the track at an F1 race one too many times, they might just tell him to stick with Gokarts. I somewhat assume that Mazepin will give new appreciation to Stroll, if he does shit like this, though.

edit:
One of the more unusual onboards of this weekend so far.

One of the funnier moments of the weekend for me was Crofty starting to read out what was new on Fitipaldi's car to explain why he was starting at the back before realising that every single item of that car would have to be new after last weekend.

Grosjean to miss the next GP too so thats the end of his F1 career.

Get Schumacher into that car for the last race.

I think they already announced Fitti will be racing again. Mercedes offered Romain a chance to test/drive next year. I think he will be back in an F1 car soon, just not as a signed driver. He was looking at an Indy drive for next year but having second thoughts due to his crash. I think he also said he would never drive a car without a halo. If his accident happened in Indy, that aeroscreen would not have saved him.

Aw man. I guess burns on the hands are no small thing for a racecar driver. It would have been a great bookend for his career to race one last time after that crash, just to show off his guts and that it didn't beat the love for the sport out of him.

On topic of Schumacher, Haas Teamchef Günther Steiner said in an interview with German television yesterday, that chances of Michael participating next week aren't zero but really really slim. They want to prepare him for F1 during the short pre-season as best they can, and this is just too quick. Without Corona, he would have been with the team during the last couple races and gotten a bit of an inside look at them, but due to precautions, he has absolutely no experience with the team... so yeah, Schumacher won't be driving next week, I guess.

I thought the aeroscreen on Indycars was pretty much just a halo with a bit of a windshield attached to it, to make it look less awkward.
