Russell fastest in FP1. Turn 8 definitely needs looking at for track limits, they were really taking the piss.

54 second lap, on a lap that short the slightest blip will make a huge difference in qualifying. Traffic is going to be a nightmare in Q1 with such a small area for the cars to spread out.

Mercedes "update" means no DAS for Bottas.

Free practice doesn't say a whole lot, since no one is giving it their truly best shot, but holy smokes, this is a pretty decent first spin in that car for Russel.

Kinda crazy, just remove Hamilton and the sport becomes 10 times more enjoyable.

Free practice doesn't say a whole lot,

It doesn't, but the fact he didn't just take it easy to get used to the car and got on with it suggests he's going to go well.

I did l ove listening to Anthony Davidson and Paul Di Resta reeing about Stoffel being robbed. Going on that he didn't have a good season in F1 but is doing great in formula E so deserves another shot. Look guys no matter how many DTM or WEC races you win you were both shite in F1.

Consider me an open-wheel racing fan that rediscovered his fervour for Formula 1 during lockdown.

I can’t say I have much to offer in terms of insight at the moment; I’m still doing what I can to get caught up on the technical changes and developments since Jacques Villeneuve’s championship run in ’97.

Despite that, I’m throwing my support behind Lando Norris, whose late-race charges at the Austrian Grand Prix and Styrian Grand Prix immediately impressed me.

Sure, it sucks for Vandoorne to be the designated stand-in and then being told to stand aside so Russel can take over, but there are a couple things to consider:
Vandoorne is the stand-in in case Hamilton or Bottas can't drive and they need someone quick. They had enough time to prepare and get someone else. And when everything is said and done, it's better to give the new generation (ie Russel) a shot with this car than handing it over to some has-been. Vandoorne wasn't hot shit when he was racing, either.

F2 qualy now (I love my job having half day Fridays). If Ilot is smart he'll do well but not win the championship, if he goes and wins it he's out of a job while Mick is already going to F1.

Another strong performance by Russel and Bottas was completely horrendous tbh. Doesn't really matter, but still insane to think that Russel is humiliating both Merc drivers like this. I expected him to be a solid #2 behind Bottas, maybe struggling to keep up with Verstappen even, but not this. This is a massive chance for Russel and he's making the most of it so far. If he can keep this up over the weekend, he will be in a position to pick highest bidder for his next contract.

German commentators had an interview with Günther Steiner of Haas and amongst the things they asked, they wanted to know about a former Ferrari engineer that helped make the current Ferrari, who joined Hass this summer and they jokingly wanted to know if he was in some way invovled with the rear-end of the car, that is by all accounts a fucking mess to drive. Made Steiner laugh and he pointed out the guy was involved with the Chassis, so they are in the green.
Strategy is going to be a nightmare, the time loss in the pits is going to be almost a lap.
Well, half a lap, anyway. Wonder how this race will be on the cars, this might become a race of attrition... very interesting, for so many reasons. I'm hype as fuck for tomorrow and sunday.

I’m watching p2 on recording and crofty finally said on sky sports that russel could be challenging for Hamilton’s seat. So we’re not the only ones.
Any of you know if Russell is released from Williams for next week too, if his services are still needed? Or if he’ll be back at Williams either way

I think it's just for this race, but I suspect that it will depend on how well Russell does, and how much money Mercedes are willing to pay Williams.

I think Russell will probably qualify on the third row, and expect him to finish in the points. It wouldn't surprise me if Bottas finishes behind him, with the way he's been driving recently. I'll open a bottle of champagne if he wins on Sunday.

8AM for me, but had to get up to watch the potential shitshow that the F2 race could produce.
EDIT-Not a shitshow, but great racing and last 10 laps were excellent! Be nice if F1 was like that.
EDIT2-Anyone else get the MILF vibes with Natalie?? LOLOL She always got some sexy shoes on which seem to get conveniently shown quite frequently. I also remember when Ricciardo threw her in the Monaco pool and when she got out she basically tried to hump him. Bet he sprung a boner after that! HAHA
EDIT3-Never toke before 9AM.

Just happened to see that F2 was being broadcasted via Youtube, decide to take a quick look and wouldn't you know it, the first thing I see is Mazepin blocking someone and running them off the road 2 times.
Maybe a tad quick for me to decide, but doesn't look like I'm going to enjoy that guy very much. What is it with Russian drivers and going CHEEKI BREEKI on the course?

Yeah, I was going to mention that. He might get a penalty for that last one. I also saw when winner was being interviewed, a banner saying he was under investigation for a Turn 1 incident. Hope he doesn't lose the win. I didn't realize it was on YT, I had to scramble to find a good stream. But great race once the pitstops were over. Let's see what qualifying has in store.

The F2 was good, mighty drive by Schumacher from an awful qualifying position. Mazepin took the defensive moves a little too far, he won't get far if he tries to pull one of those in F1. F2 is a little more like that for crazy maneuvers.

Watching FP3 now, I really hate them trying to make "mr Saturday" into a thing more than just a nickname that acknowledges his good qualifying performances. Stop describing it and having 5 minute "deep" conversations, we get it and it isn't that cleaver.

Honestly can't wait for Crofty to get MeToo'd so we don't have to listen to his insufferable 'commentary' anymore

A bit of fun while we wait for one of the most interesting qualifyings this year... and actually, that says a lot.
Looking back, this season was absolutely amazing with many great moments, both glorious and dramatic ones.
The weakest aspect of this whole season, though, is who ends up on places 1-3. Without that, this season would have been baller.

What is that "Mr Saturday" refering to? Or rather, to whom?
