Looks like the crash was Romain's own fault, not like it makes it any less gruesome.
According to German F1 news coverage, the Halo saved Grosjean (well, I guess that stands to reason, without, he'd be decapitated)... but apparently, after removing the old barriers, they now put down blocks of concrete.... what in the fuck is wrong with these people?

I doubt the full onboard shows anything anyway. The camera set wouldn't have survived that.

I guess the camera feed cut out before it could transmit the full video of the crash (the car broke in half, possibly, the camera was seperated from the car's batteries), it's something that you'll see with most onboards during a crash. I doubt they'd hold out on that, when they show all other angles in great detail.

Of course Lewis is off using this to big up himself on twitter.

"So glad he's ok, look how much of a hero I am."

Idk, I feel like it's quite convenient for it to cut right before impact. Even in Australia 2016 when Alonso destroyed his car the camera kept going until he flipped and snapped it off.

That https://overtakefans.com/ site has everything in the replays. I was checking out Turkey archive and they had the data channell, pit lane channel and all the driver cams fully archived. If there is more and it was shown on F1TV then they should have it. Will check it out when the archive appears. That will answer the question if there is more footage or not. There may be a second delay in transmitting the feed so that is most likely why it cuts out well before the hit. We shall see I guess.

Kvyat is ... well. With Grosjean he was just at the wrong place, wasn't his fault... but now he's involved in another crash. Dunno if it was his fault this time, but he's one unlucky motherfucker.
I wonder if Lance went and got glasses he would improve? Maybe he has vision issues. He just gets tangled up too often.
Seems like he has really bad situational awareness. Kyvat's dive on the inside was rather... peculiar, but Stroll should have anticipated it and checked his mirror.

Kvyat's attempt to overtake was just not smart at all, Stroll has bad situational awareness as I said, but I see more fault with Kvyat's overtake tbh.

If Vet wipes the floor with Stroll next year I think it looks real bad for F1 that Stroll is not there mostly on merit. Like its pretty clear if his dad didn't own the team Perez would not be the guy shown the door, So, he needs to show next year he is competitive enough to warrant the seat. Like you said, it seems like he lacks spatial awareness or something. Other drivers have worn glasses before, Jacques, Bourdais etc. and they did pretty good. I think he is a good driver, but right now he reminds me of guys like Gutierrez, Jolyon, type tier. Do a couple seasons and didn't measure up. Stroll is in that territory right now and can't repeat it next year.

Otherwise, it really will look more and more like rich man's playground for their sons, especially with Mazepin expected. He is an ok driver, but Illott would do better than Nikita in F1 2021 I bet.

Ironically, I think Stroll would be better off without driving in Daddy's seat. If he had to stand on his own feet and earn his seat every year, he'd actually have to improve, this way, he can just slack off on that part. He doesn't have to push himself and thus he is held back. And even when he does something decent, it doesn't outweigh the bad taste that everybody has in their mouth about him just driving on Daddy's dime.

Well another win for Bernd Mylander.

Kinda meh gp as per usual for the oil states. Their constant "huge amount of overtakes" hype was nonsense since its just another drs magic button overtake track.

That PU failure for racing point will make the fight for 3rd in the constructors all the more exciting. Those 15 points that everyone said is getting off easy are really going to bite them.

I'd say we got a good amount of "random events" (Grosjean exploding, Perez PU failure in P3, marshall running across the track, Stroll flipped), but the racing part was lacking. Had the same stuff happened in a gp where there was some racing, people would have been calling it one of the best races of all time.

Perez earned that 3rd place, fuck what a heartbreaker.

Contemporary F1 reminds me of a trope in The A-Team where a vehicle (usually an army jeep) will launch itself skyward and corkscrew several times before coming to a rest upside-down. Then the driver and the passenger will immediately climb out and dust themselves off, as if the accident was a minor inconvenience.

The FIA should know by now, that if there is an area of a circuit where a crash seems unlikely, Grosjean will manage to put his car there. It's an anti-talent. They should really keep him on as a driver to sound out any weak links in their safety provision.
