Goes full Borat after the win.

A flash of greatness with those first 10 laps, then just boredom with mercedes literally miles ahead with a far better engine and battery.
I guess the FIA hasn't made me eat my words. Yet.

nice of ferrari to raise their fans hopes and dash them in the space of the first 10 laps of the season. great stuff.

2027 is ferraris year.

Two things that I noticed in regard to the Sky coverage: Crofty, unsurprisingly, spared absolutely no battery power in his ball-washing of the new regulations. He is, as you would expect, a hybrid of wide-eyed true believer and unabashed shill. I think that, after the first few laps, Brundle realised how ridiculous it was to be talking about batteries to the extent that they were and dialled it down.

Early on in the race, a delighted Crofty presented a graphic showing the relative battery charges of Verstappen and whoever was in front of him at the time. I almost turned off at that point. I was only half-watching by the end. Did this graphic show up again or was it wisely abandoned?

no they continued doing this throughout. prepare to see a lot of "this is how fast this guy is allowed to go compared to this guy behind him!" all season

more thoughts on the race that i didn't have time to sperge about earlier:

1. nice to see the commentators quickly resume in glazing british drivers. you might remember they were really concerned about max's tires about 15 laps in when there was graining on the front left - big problem for max! when russel started seeing graining in his front left, pah! mr saturday the tire whisperer is an expert you see. nauseating.
2. i'd be concerned if i was a big oscar fan. i like the guy and want to see him succeed but that was a monumental error today. it won't help him much that the mclaren doesn't have the same advantage it had last year.
3. ferrari race strategy is at this point, completely expected. the best part of the race was probably the first 10 laps where they were fighting for p1.
4. lindblad and hadjar look great. super excited for hadjar specifically because he's in the cursed seat and looked right at home.
5. max is max, and aston martin are a clown show. 8 out of 11 teams got points today too which is cool.

overall it wasn't as bad as i expected, though it was pretty bad. it certainly didn't help that a few crowd favourites had an unlucky day out. i don't like george but it didn't really matter much if it was him, antonelli or a ferrari winning because the racing just wasn't all that good. 2 years of this :lossmanjack: oh well.

Ferrari - Mercedes fight was rather cool, at least while it lasted (it would be great if it was 100% race craft and not battery fuckery). Throw all inbred wops and bring the Horner in.

20 laps and already an engine failure on RBR car, I feel very sorry for Hadjar, Verstappen master class, from P20 to P6
McLaren is fucked, third fastest car on the grid right now
Audi is fast, god damn
Lindblad is absurdly fast
Bearman podium soon
Alpine in points. First race after PU change. No comment needed.
Cadillac is shit, but not very. It sure was falling apart, but at least Perez finished, and fared better than Crapston Martin geeeeeeeeeg

Next up is chicom validation ritual. I don't want to know how much will current gen shitboxes suffer on that long straight.

Enjoy that asterisk, George.

Yes, I'd say the same about anyone else, but you absolutely know George will be all smug and act like it was 100% talent all along, and I might be less cynical if it were one of the drivers calling out the cars as shit.

I can't lie that I wasn't entertained but it was like eating the stake in Matrix.
I'm still baffled how Lewis doesn't impose his strategy on these wops, the radio should have been "It's Charles boxing? - No - Prepare the hards I'm boxing". He doesn't owe them respect like Charles somewhat does. Fucking Carols Sainz who is a little above average driver without a GP victory to his name was imposing his strategy and you with 7 WDC's ask some retarded italian in a passive aggresive way "shouldn't at least one of us boxed?" . Lewis deserves all the shit that is starting to cover his great career.

I might be talking out my ass as I've only been following this for about half a year now, but Lewis seems like some combination of always getting what he wants and not having to grind too hard for it behind the scenes (that is, he's a talented driver but has never had much motivation to beat his engineers into submission) and being on team Ferrari where the culture is that you don't criticize because you can't say that to "Ferrari, the entity".

Charles doesn't owe them respect anymore. Especially not after Elkann's comments last year. If he gets angry and starts flipping tables, I'll become a front-running motherfucker for Ferrari faster than you can say "lift and coast". However, I might have to revise my thinking on Silly Season: Aston Martin has taken the worst shit of any team so far this year, so Charles might have nowhere to go even if he wanted to.

Carlos is an assertive asshole, but that's the difference between him and someone like Lewis: he doesn't have a championship to his name in F1. He's also never been considered the top-tier driver on any team he's been on. He doesn't have the runway to give a shit about what the team thinks looks good if he wants to save his own ass in the sport. Still my favorite, because I want to believe there's a place for someone who I think is the opposite of Max in the sport, but I'm a sentimental old broad and I like what I like.

Colapinto sucks

Antonelli sucks. I was promised the Italian max regen and instead got the Italian Bottas regen

Hadjar got utterly screwed. Probably would have gotten a podium and beaten max heads up had the engine just crapped our
