Ohh boy... Oliver Oakes is no longer the team principal at Alpine. So Alpine isn't gonna be Hitech next year, right?

Alpine F1 team boss Oakes resigns with immediate effect

Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes as resigned with immediate effect, the team has announced.

Oakes was brought to the team in July last year to replace Bruno Famin and then went on to form a tandem with executive advisor Flavio Briatore.

But six races into the 2025 season Oakes has now resigned, according to the team, with Briatore taking over his duties ad interim.
"BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal," the team said. "The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as Executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.

"The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship. The team will not be making any further comment."

In Oakes' time at Alpine, the Enstone made steady progress with its F1 cars after starting 2024 on the back foot, although it has struggled for results this season and is currently ninth in the constructors' table.

As part as a raft of changes over the past 12 months, Renault boss Luca de Meo decided to abandon Alpine's in-house 2026 power unit project at Viry-Chatillon, and become a Mercedes customer instead.

Oakes arrived at Alpine after having tried to enter into F1 with his Hitech junior formula team, which runs in F2, F3 and F1 Academy on the F1 support bill.

The news of the 37-year-old's departure came out of the blue, although there were lingering questions over how just long he and former Renault F1 boss Briatore would be aligned as they ran the team.

Alpine is understood to be close to replacing rookie Jack Doohan with reserve driver Franco Colapinto from next week's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola to partner Pierre Gasly.

EDIT: That didn't take long, Briatore already replaced Doohan with Colapinto.

I don't know if replacing Doohan with him gonna make Alpine any better. Even Gasly struggled to drive that car because of how inconsistent piece of junk it was.

Hands up anyone who didn't think flav was already running the show...

Colapinto on a 5 race deal, how well are we expecting it to go? Who's next for clown team if Colapinto decides to play destruction derby again?

Once again, there can only be one Aussie in F1. One is leading the championship and is the best young driver we've seen in decades. The other is scoring 0 points and forgetting to close his DRS. Not really a question of who's on the losing end of the curse. Danny Ric is smiling from beyond the grave.

Get ready to learn WEC, mate!

FIA are repotedly looking at dropping the cost cap. Apparently its too much of a headache to administer and the teams are just using a million loopholes to spend anyway.

When they first discussed putting in a cap 20 years ago the very first thing everyone in the know said was that teams would simply shift capital elsewhere, and its precisely what happened every other time some "cost cutting" measure was put into place. Cant test as much? Well now we'll put money into simulators and wind tunnel. Cant develop motors/PU's? Teams will spend shekels on other areas of development. This dog has been chasing its own tail since the rules started becoming onerous in the 70's.

He'll never get in. Middle Eastern bribes to the third world FIA members too stronk.

I'd love to be wrong.

So the man who was convicted for ordering one of his drivers to crash hires a driver known for crashing. Seems legit.
Should have hired Latifi or Sargeant to get the 100% crash

Also dropping the cost cap. Now that the field is rather close they want to give the bigger teams a heads up again? Maybe just loosen the cap for 2026 and 2027 then reinstate it. Jesus. The Sport is fucking expensive, it should be in the best interest to reduce costs

Looking at the wop's history of landing on all four feet, I won't be surprised if Colapinto starts massacring Gasly pure pace wise, while additionally raping Alpine's budget only every third race

Doohan did an objectively good thing for Colapinto (got fired) and the Argentine monkeys are still in his DMs sending death threats:lit:

Do you guys have any general motorsports (if not F1 exclusive) podcasts you like? I fly too much and haven't been keeping up with races :(

Apex Hunters United is my go-to. Whilst they're heavily focused on Australian motorsport (especially Supercars), they've recently started putting out more F1-related content.

Colton Herta is doing a great job of pointing himself out of the Cadillac seat. Yesterday he got sideswiped on the first lap at Indy, came in to pit, his team wasn't ready and he spent so much time in the pits he went a lap down. Now he's about to get overtaken for 9th place by Rinus in a team with an eighth of the budget.

Get ready for the endless speculation over who should get that spot. Palou seems obvious- he's having the most dominant year of his career. But watch Cadillac put Jak Crawford (lol) there because of the flag on his passport.
