maybe a bit of a hot take but i really like the last sector of France. Signes may be flat in F1 but is a crazy commitment corner in GTs. Beausset, the big loop, is cool because how many lines that can be taken thru it. i bet we will see overtakes in it.
this is really where you can see the ungodly amount of grip F1 cars have

Yep when Alesi and Berger went to Benetton in 96 they said how hard the 95 car was to drive and Schumi said that he could have won with the 95 Ferrari(probably said it for moral reasons but I believe it). To see how dominate Schumi and also Newey were in the 90's and early 2000's between 1992 and 2004 only 1997 was not won by either Schumacher or an Adrian Newey designed car.

If Schumacher didn't have his technical DNF in Silverstone 1997 he would have been champion. But this is a discussion for another day.

I remember reading that Schumacher was suprised with Berger's setup for the Ferrari 1995 saying he couldn't understand how Berger managed to get such an understeering car around the corners. Also I think Schumacher crashed the first time he drove the 1995 car as it wasn't setup for his preferences yet. It's reallyinteresting how different the drivers are.

The thing is, FIA is going to ban nopod designs afaik, so there is no reason to follow down that line unless Merc is pouring all their resources into next season and just deals with their shitty nopod design for a year.

I think they< are still making updates for their car. And it isn't that bad (at least quick enough for 3rd rank among the teams). The question is if they can make it work 100% or not. Though Ialso heard that the FIA will make designs like this illegal next year. If so then ercedes will basically has to start from scratch (or copy from Red Bull or Ferrari)
 
And just like clockwork the "Mercedes are going to easily 1-2 it with their amazing new upgrades" doesn't survive a Friday let alone Saturday.

I'm sure they'll refine more time out of it, but then ferrari will and Red Bull will suddenly find 1.5 seconds from somewhere in qualifying.

I'm calling it now Crofty will be rubbing himself raw about a guaranteed Hamilton pole tomorrow until he misses out by like a second due to "back luck".

2nd practice times, some pretty big field spread.

At this point, all I am hoping for is Russle breaking our buck some more.

Well, he did luck into a few neat situations early on in the season too, like gambling on a late safety car that paid off, so his luck was pretty even with the Zhou crash I would say. But that Austria strategy was... well. Not ideal.

It's a bit of a shame, I'm happy whenever Russel does well, but it also means that Toto profits at the same time... and usually, Russel needs some other team to screw the pooch, so he can get a podium, so it's at the cost of Leclerc, Sainz, Perez or Verstappen that Russel succeeds.

They took the wrong conclusions from Austria. First of all Russell couldn't keep up in the Sprint. And in the race Ferrari and RedBull took one more stop then Mercedes. Without said stops Russell and Hamilton might have been lapped as the track in Austria is very short
 
Sorry I missed the discussion yesterday but I was revisiting the 2012 season at work and I still believe the Mclaren was the fastest car that season. Reliability wise is was awful and so many pit mistakes. It's kind of baffling and at the time I did feel for Lewis.

Mclaren Lewis feels like a completely different person rewatching it

After 2011, he actually started to grow as a driver after spending much of the year crashing out. Then 2014 happened and he realised he didn't need to.

Yup, started out as a bit of an arrogant cunt, started to humble a bit once he didn't have the car and realised he isn't gods gift, then got handed a car he didn't even have to fight anyone and could make a couple of mistakes and still win and went back to thinking the sun shines out his ass. Toto hasn't helped with that attitude either.

Ted and Co still trying to push the "fan unpleasantness" from Austria. Give it a rest, the emperor has no clothes.

RIP decent commentary. It's Crofty and PDR this weekend.

If I ever become a serial killer the victims will be those that got shown on TV instead of the god damn cars that are the focus of the fucking sport. Then when the link gets noticed they'll stop showing the fucking crowd rather than the sport.
 
Lewlew crying about Alpines being in the way...why doesn't he just use his 7 time world champion skill to pass them?
 
Both Mercedes 1,3 seconds behind in quali trim. Yeah Mercedes is closing the gap guys. And poor Mick having his good time deleted.

Also they said that Merc seems to eatr their Softs even harder then RedBull or Ferrari. the only thing that goes for them is reliability.That's probably the strategy for tomorrow: Staying alive and wait till the Ferrari burn out (literally) and then the RedBull get also slower due to tyre issues or mechanical failures
