It should be Oscar, wins F3 and F2 back to back as a rookie but he needs a seat. A reserve driver role isn't what it used to be, back in the day you'd be pounding round a test track in the current car getting actual experience, not shut in a simulator waiting for a phone call because someone has gone ill or doing the odd track day in an old car. He hasn't even done a FP1 session yet.

Besides the real answer is Logan Sargeant.
I love how it's 'yes, running cars around tracks, this is the cost issue' and not, you know, the ludicrously complicated hybrid powertrains and DRS and....

The in season testing ban was put in place in 2009 in the time of screaming V8s where the engines were cheaper because they didn't last as long and the development was frozen.

In 1998 Schumacher did 30,000km between testing and actual race weekends with 3 races to go, equivalent to almost 100 San Marino GPs or 5 20 race seasons.

Edit:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I wonder how Aston Martin PR will spin this... 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This spate of attacks against F1 is nicely timed. hashtag weraceasone foreeeeeeverrrrrr.

@New Fag beat me to posting the new Sky F1 article. I guess Sky and others are going to push the austrian GP as the floodgate moment that will make everyone "come out of the closet" with their abuse stories.

All I can say is I'll be surprised if one comes out of Brixworth and it isn't a worker who got washed out / shit canned for being a bad employee.

surely this money must go down like a cup of sick with Seb, what with his stance against Saudi and the like.

F1's steadily going through the same thing football did 30 years ago: its community is changing. For one reason or another new eyes are coming to it from outside the established niche community that fed it before, and with new eyes and new sensibilities (coupled with new sponsors) it means having to fall into line with their ways of thinking. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, for instance football was absolutely rife with hooliganism in the 70s and 80s and with the changes that has declined, and in the same vein there's nothing wrong with tossing out a workplace culture that happily uses racial slurs to describe their own workmate. But these usually aren't the only things you lose: the negative changes in football are well-observed, and F1 is going down the same path. Yeah with the change in culture you'll lose some of the worst elements of the current community, but in its place you can get all manner of obnoxious crap like #WeRaceAsOne, Helmet Activism and teenage girl stan accounts for drivers.

Ah good old shit employee canned for being lazy and incompetent goes crying to media about muh isms. A tale as old as social justice. Well Aston you made you bed on this one, enjoy getting fucked raw in it.

Very coincidental that Vips says gamer word, old Piquet podcast suddenly gets coverage, Austria "muh harassment" land whales pop up and now this. There is definitely a narrative being pieced together here for some sort of power play and unfortunately neither liberty nor the FIA have the backbone to tell them to fuck off.

Aston's management really tried hard to make the team unlikable. My hype for their hypercar died fast as the only time we heard about the car was management wanting rule changes, and as you said, not only did this bitching compromise other outfits, it was all for fuck all as their race version never existed and their stupid road/track car has only been delivered this year. FFS, even Bykolles has built a hyper car!

But the cancellation of the GTE Pro irritated me because it happened on Christmas, and that put the GTE Pro grid in a shit place.

had no idea AMR had such a successful year in 2020, winning 26 championships and obviously two class Le Mans wins.
and here we are, with the only official Aston Racing team being a bottom/mid tier operation represented by a stroller and Seb, whose heart has not been in it when it became clear the Ferrari dream is over IMO.

Hearing about Aston Martin's incompetence, is bringing me memories of the AMR-One LMP car, which IIRC, competed at LeMans, and one of the cars didn't start the race, and the other one retired almost shortly after starting the race. Even all of the Peugeots failing to finish at LeMans in 2010, due to three engine blow ups, and one with a terminally cracked tub, was more competent compared to that.

astons inital effort was actually okay with the Lola B60/08 v12 aston engine. However, the AMR one was apparently a rush job 3-6 months all in, and the new straight 6 was for reliability reasons running half the hp, and it flexed massively under load, so prodrive had to reinforce the engine, which upset the balance. Fun fact the chassis was used in the delta wing project.

also have this team lotus plan from 2011

Well, this is a sport that involves going vroom vroom around a circuit using what are essentially toy cars made real.

I can't think of a more man child sport than that. You have whiny drivers and whiny team bosses that get mad that they didn't think of something so they ask for the rules to be changed.

Literally crying to daddy that someone has a better toy than you so you ask him to take their toy away.

Imagine being Toto fucking Wolff and deciding that "There's too much of a performance gap between cars now" just because your drivers aren't qualifying a second ahead of everyone anymore. This is the most competitive racing we've had in years, and he's probably just fucking pissy he has to actually do his job now. Love it.

I really need to hold myself back not to negrate your post... sort of like "don't kill the messanger".

The worst part is and forever shall be people claiming Mercedes and Hamilton showing grace and humbleness in defeat.

Current years RB is nowhere near as stupid-strong as Mercedes in the past seasons and Ferrari, for once is putting up a decent fight. Toto is pissing from his eyes cause his team couldn't put together a rocket car for once in a fucking decade.
When I see this I just remember this is the guy who had the tantrum to end all tantrums over Masi and actually had the FIA give him what he wanted.

Get fucked, asshole.
"NO MIKEY NO! ZIS WAS ZO NOT RAIT!" will never stop being funny.
