search 'mclaren' on twitter. this is what happens when you pimp your drivers out to popculture, you get all the dts spergs crying about one of the most common phenomena in motorsport.

yeah i like DR but hes clearly not delivering. not to mention all the media back and forth between him and the management. it reminds me when a music artist gets in a fight with their label but a little more autistic.

also isnt the radio edited anyway?? thats what the f1tv guys were saying.

Looks like the outside of the swimming pool is going to be this generation of car's inside of the 3rd swimming pool barrier. Vettel almost dropped it then, Ricciardo did drop it there and someone did similar in F2 too.

Lewis Hamilton felt 'eyeballs coming out of sockets' driving bouncy Mercedes in Monaco

(article)
MONTE CARLO -- Lewis Hamilton said he has never experienced anything as bad as trying to drive his bouncing Mercedes around the bumpy Monte Carlo circuit on Friday.

Mercedes appeared to have solved the worst of its car's bouncing issues at the last race, the Spanish Grand Prix, but the nature of the Monaco circuit means the drivers are now experiencing a different type of bouncing, caused by the track surface rather than the car's aerodynamics.

At one point in the first session, a flustered Hamilton told Mercedes over the radio: "It's so bouncy out here, man, I'm losing my f---ing mind!"

Hamilton said he felt like he was battling the car the entire time.

"Firstly, it is the bumpiest track I have ever been too," Hamilton said Friday evening. "It is the bumpiest track I have ever driven.

"So 1, that makes it difficult and 2, our car bounces a lot. It is different bouncing to what we have experienced in the past.

"It is in the low speed [corners], it is not aero and the bumps in the track are making it worse, so it is not a case of learning how to drive the track... it is just fighting the car.

"Putting the lap together is, wow...holy crap ... I have not experienced it like that before."

He added: "I remember back in the day my first years here, a light nimble car was so much better. But now we have these super heavy cars and the braking zones are different.

"It is crazy it is 2022 and the tracks aren't as smooth when they are resurfaced, technology is still against us, but I think we made some improvements going into that session and when you do put a lap together the grip doesn't feel too bad it is just eyeballs coming out the sockets..."

Practice suggested Ferrari is a clear favourite, with Red Bull comfortably second.

Hamilton's teammate George Russell was the quicker Mercedes driver in practice and still a long way off the leaders.

Hamilton did not sound optimistic Mercedes can make enough improvements to take the fight to either team in front.

"We have some work to do overnight. As I anticipated we are not as quick as the Ferraris or the Red Bulls."
Actually, come to think of it, this BBC article adds enough new information that I'll edit it in as well.

Monaco Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton says track is 'bumpiest ever'

(article)
Lewis Hamilton said Monaco this year is the "bumpiest" track he has ever driven because of problems with his Mercedes car in Friday practice.

Hamilton was only 12th fastest after a difficult day, complaining he did not manage to get a lap together. Team-mate George Russell was sixth.

"There are, like, 100 bumps on just one straight," Hamilton said.

"I don't know whether the others are experiencing the same as us. But it's the bumpiest roller-coaster ride."

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc set the pace in both sessions, leading team-mate Carlos Sainz by the end of the day, both drivers more than 0.3 seconds quicker than Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen of title rivals Red Bull.

Russell was 0.7secs off the pace, and Hamilton a further 0.9secs back.

Hamilton complained about "bouncing" - but said it was not the same as the high-frequency aerodynamic problem that had afflicted Mercedes until their upgrade in Spain last weekend.

"It's the bumpiest the track's ever been. It's probably the bumpiest track I've ever driven," the seven-time champion said.

"That makes it difficult but in general our car bounces a lot. It's different bouncing to what we've experienced in the past because it's in the low speed [corners] also, but it's not aero. The bumps are making it worse.

"Putting a lap together is, wow, whole new ground. I don't remember experiencing that before.

"The grip doesn't feel terrible but it's just eyeballs coming out of the sockets. As anticipated, I didn't think we would be as quick as the Ferraris and Red Bulls. Our battle is to try and stay ahead of the McLarens."

Russell added: "The car is constantly smashing against the floor. We have experienced a lot of that this year but this is a very different philosophy and reasoning for the bouncing.

"There are sections where both tyres are off the ground - in Turn Five, the front right in the air, and it's so stiff the front left is popping up as well. You're almost doing a wheelie. We're doing everything we can to make it easier for us.

"It was a relatively good day but we are not where we want to be.

"We want to be best of the rest. That is a fair result this weekend behind Ferrari and Red Bull but we want to make sure we don't have cheeky little Lando popping it in there too."

I think the main issue is that the teams are still trying to figure out how to setup the car for this track as these are the new gen cars. Merc might have a bigger problem as they can't seem to make a stiff setup without creating "bouncing". Stiff cars mean more reaction but make bumps worse. To counter bumps you soften the car which in turn leads to slower reactions. Let's see how Merc will handle other bouncy tracks as next we have Baku and Canada coming up. Oh Brazil might be very fun to watch too

Certainly doesn't help that the general setup of their car under the best conditions is like riding a knife's edge.
Now they gotta figure out what setup works with their design on a track like that while also trying to deal with the bumps. How many times do they think something is caused by the setup but it turns out to be the bumps or vice versa? You assume you lose grip in a corner due to bumps, so you change the setup to help with the bumps and it turns out the problem gets worse, cause it was something about the aerodynamic in that part of the track...
I would not be surprised if a track like Monaco is simply impossible to set up for properly.

To deal with their porpoising, they might need to run a stiff setup, but in order to deal with the bumpy road, they need to run a soft setup.
If the weather tomorrow is bad and the track is cold, they'll also run into the issue that they simply won't get heat into their tyres, enjoy driving a slippery car on cold tyres, mere inches away from the barriers.

The best part of this: They might now figure out what works and what doesn't on every racetrack, so they would not have to start from scratch next season and actually get into the performance window that makes their car shine. They simply need the create data to help them setup and the more often they re-visit a track, the better they become at predicting what'll work and eventually get their design to work...
... but FIA already toys with the idea of banning nopod designs. If that happens, Mercs will start into next season with a conventional design and on their backfoot once more, cause all other teams have the data from this season. Admittedly, a conventional design will be way more easy to setup, but still. If FIA bans nopod, this was the biggest blunder Mercedes ever committed.

The high jerk from having a harsh set up over bumps that the drivers are complaining about may be able to be "got over" by the drivers, but there are bound to be components in the car that will not take it. May see quite some attrition this race if they don't sacrifice a bit of performance to make sure the car will survive.

Alfa out for revenge after being the only team to hit the original weight limit?

Also increasing the budget cap with inflation is in the rules, it just so happens that it's a yearly thing.

How not to take the Lowes hairpin

I expect masses of mechanical failures at some point in this season too, this violent bouncing can't be good for the engines.
Also, the floor strikes the ground, so that might become an issue too. Wonder if the floor of the car can heat up and cause issues.

What the fuck, why are sky commentators calling Perez holding up Hamilton in Abu Dhabi "not his finest moment". It was a brilliant piece of defensive driving and helped his team mate win the championship.

Because he blocked their countryman of color. I wish they’d give up on Lewis and start rooting for the other Brits, George and Lando, instead. I can understand being biased towards your own country to keep the local nationalist audience happy, but if that’s the case you better support everyone from your country.

The fuck?
Him battling it out against a significantly more powerful car on entirely fucked tyres for half a lap was one of the biggest achievements of the past 5 seasons. He took the supposedly GOAT to school and slammed on the brakes wherever he knew Hamilton won't be able to pass.

It's a defining moment of his career in the best possible terms.
Much like the rogue yellow that screwed over Vestappen (and got Horner in trouble) a marshal threw the flag without instruction and race control had to go with it.
Wait, really? That's kinda silly.
Also Russel clipped the barriers too, it seems. His car was visible after the red flag and his tyre was shredded worse than Yuki's.

Edit:
Vettel in Q3 makes me one happy rodent.
