Mercedes have had, what, 2 podium finishes this season, both arguably the result of Verstappen DNFs.

The pressure is on for the team to demonstrate that they do not need to rely on the mechanical failure of their rivals to get free champagne.

The recent budget-stretching updates, coupled with both Mercs arriving in Spain with new engines, gives the team the air of someone pushing all his chips across the felt, and laying to one side any concerns regarding what this might cost him down the road. They need a good result on merit.

Car trouble aside, Mercedes seem a bit directionless this season. They are tethered to Hamilton who is becoming a liability. If the weary attempts to pacify his moaning are any indication, he has worn a gaping hole in the German-engineered welcome mat outside the garage. Russell seems to be relishing his role within the team. It's been great to see him rise to the challenge of driving a relatively-competitive car, and to be in the position of successor to Hamilton, as opposed to number 2 driver, which has ruined many a promising career.

As the season progresses, it will interesting to see whether Mercedes decide to focus on the Constructor's championship, or get behind a driver and try to push them up the rankings.

AWS pit stop strategy: "they all start on mediums"

Everyone but Hamilton starting on softs.

Where's your podium now dickface?

Alonso reminding me why I've been a fan of his since 2003. That overtake looked kinda ballsy.
Sainz... oh dear.
The number 2 drivers in all the top teams seem to be doing an average-to-shit job.

No seriously, there's something in that particular turn. Even Mad Max spun out into the gravel, but thankfully came out.
Sum that to the dry climate and we have a delightful shitshow in the making.

A photoshop of Max animorphing into Lewis would be handy right now.

Then again I can't complain too much since I've never found the concept of publicly griping at your team for technical shortcomings offensive, not when Alonso was doing it with McLaren, not now, not even with Lewis.

Lol Ferrari back in form :story: I'll take Russel 1st, Lewis 16th.

Going to be good for the WDC at least. We needed something to even them back up for a nice close championship. Sounded like a turbo giving up to me from the onboard.

Let's go perez.
