I did think there was something dodgy with that 0.4-0.5 seconds time gain having been within about 0.1-0.2 all season long and Bottas being that far behind lewlew. Especially on such a sort track. I was thinking engine shenanigans though.

No way he'll be disqualified from the weekend for that though, it will just be the session. Sky F1 are reporting it will likely be a pit lane start for the sprint race as the "qualifying" was to set the grid for that.

Of course all the responses on Crofty's tweets are bbc admirers who think it's some shadowy FIA conspiracy to make sure Max wins.

Also best headline from before the investigation:

How right they were.

Now, they are saying Max touched the Mercedes wing. And he did. Below are the tweets, my cropped video that I did to zoom in and a link to full video below.

Whether it matters or not that Max touched it, I don't know. But Merc are certainly going to say something. Are drivers allowed to touch other cars after a session? I didn't think they were. Either way, it ain't over yet. Decision tomorrow apparently.

Verstappen faces investigation over parc ferme rules breach after touching Hamilton’s car

Posted on 13th November 2021, 1:35 | Written by Keith Collantine

Max Verstappen has been drawn into the stewards’ investigation over the legality of his championship rival Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes during qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver faces an inquiry over whether he violated parc ferme rules. The world championship leader was filmed touching the rear wing of his rival’s car following the qualifying session on Friday.

Amateur footage from the session showed Verstappen examining the rear wing of his Red Bull after he got out of the car. He then walked to Hamilton’s car and appeared to touch the underside of its rear wing in two places.

Parc ferme restrictions begin at the start of qualifying. As the Sao Paulo Grand Prix is a sprint qualifying weekend, that means they commence a day earlier than usual.

Verstappen has been summoned under article 2.5.1 of the International Sporting Code which defines the rules regarding parc ferme. It states: “Inside the parc ferme, only the officials assigned may enter.

“No operation, checking, tuning or repair is allowed unless authorised by the same officials or by the applicable regulations.”
Verstappen and a team representative are to meet the stewards at 9:30am on Saturday at the Interlagos circuit.

Hamilton, who I liked and supported for many years, has become self-entitled, paranoid and passive aggressive. There is nothing noble about this man who, despite his claims, has, from a very young age, enjoyed a privileged ascent into the highest echelons of F1. When he moves on, I can only see him becoming even more of a tiresome prima donna.
That's the thing. One upon a time, Hambone was alright. Heck, he was actually likable in a George Russell kinda way i.e. young and British, but not quite as likable as Lando.

Case in point: Top Gear's Senna tribute (which is one of the best films TG ever made IMHO):

Potential fuckery ahead, seems no 'decision' has been reached tonight.

What the actual fuck was Max doing?! Even if it wasn't against parc ferme rules, fucking with someone else's ride is not cool. There's a reason why "You toucha my car, I breaka your face" was a popular bumper sticker slogan in the '70s and '80s. Max should really know better.

That said, I hope the stewards don't bend the knee to Mercedes. As far as I'm concerned, Max just needs a stern talking to.

What even is the penalty for that? A fine would seem appropriate, especially given that it was just two small touches, not like he started jerking around the actuators or whatever.

If there is wing fuckery afoot, I'd appreciate a disqualifying from the session - let's be honest, we'd all laugh if it was a DSQ for the entire weekend, but unless the wing fuckery was really severely bad, it would not be appropriate. Then again: Unfair advantage over the competition for sure and possibly a significant safety risk to the driver and others, depending on what they did or even just what could be possible with that sort of fuckery. FIA might need to throw the book at Lewis to make perfectly, unmistakenly and absolutely clear that fucking around with DRS (and possibly risking the safety of the driver) is a complete and utter no-go. It really depends on the nature and extend of the actual fuckery and how hard FIA wants to slam the door shut on anyone contemplating doing the same. If you're able to avoid scrutiny and the penalty is super soft, teams might just go for it and take the risk.

How about this penalty: DSQ from quali, has to start from pitlane on the sprint race and his DRS privileges are revoked for the weekend. :story:

A monetary penalty would be absolutely fair. Max clearly wasn't fucking around with anything critical and his actions aren't going to have an impact on the outcome of the race, but touching someone else's car without their permission is pretty rude (even if Max did have reasonable cause for curiosity under the circumstances).

I almost expect Mercs to whine that the reason their wing is no longer on spec is that Max fiddled around and broke it.

Edit:
I actually feel bad for Nikita for once.

Dude has had a rough start in a shitty car and he behaved like a douchenozzle, but if he gets his shit together on track to be less of a nuisance to others I don't mind him on the track.

Well breeches of the Parc ferme regulation is normally pitnlane start but this is a really unusual one in that it's not some change or repair to his car that os being moaned about. Merc are trying to argue he "broke the forensic chain" so they are most definitely trying to get out of their technical breech by saying "but you can't prove it breeches the regulation before then".

In Parc Ferme conditions, no one but FIA officials may investigate a car and touching it is a no-go. Mercs now really try to cover their ass and blame non-compliance of their wing on Verstappen.

I'm going out on a limb here and say that trying to misadjust the parts in question by hand would be virtually impossible, let alone by the light and short touching of the wing by Verstappen.
But it might be a FIA backdoor argument now: Mercs claim that the evidence is no longer valid cause there's a break of procedure due to Verstappen touching the car.
And then we'll see a Hamilton's racing pace that's oddly half a second slower than Verstappens, it's gonna be a mystery.

Oh my, I woke up to something spicy.

On the fun side will the FIA be fair and play by the rules, Ham DSQ (from quali) and nothing serious with Max or will the FIA use Max touching a wing which you could stand on without breaking as a get out clause to either penalise/not penalise them both for the sake of the championship? obviously the latter

Also my like of Karun grows, boy mentioned Andre the Giant.

For those of you who think Max could simply "damage" the rear wing of a F1 car check this out

Anyone who knows anything about the sport knows he couldn't do that. The problem Hamilton cock suckeres know nothing about the sport so they have these strange theories that always lead back to "hambone is the best and anything else happening means a conspiracy".

LewLew's on a much slower wing now, yesterday's one that he got the fastest lap in is impounded. This might shape up into something pretty fun, with or without the aftermatch Shitshow.
Yeah they're passing that off as "well it's much colder today"

Also what's taking so bloody long? I've never seen them fuck around this much especially since its a binary yes/no over its legality and a very clear punishment if it is illegal. If they don’t sort it by the sprint then it's an absolutely massive FIA fuckup.
