You know, I have a certain hope for something specific to happen, but I don't want to type it out, cause I am actually superstitious enough that I may jinx it.

Let's just say, it's a very unlikely turn of events, but it would make me laugh for at least a fucking decade.

I'm going to swing in with a derail, as I like to do, but this one will interest you all I think.
This week's Big Interview on Midweek Motorsport features Pascal Vasselon, current Team Manager for Toyota's WEC program, discussing how they almost lost Le Mans this year due to an issue and how they overcame it. I won't lie, it's unbelievable how much goes into it - but I saw it happen live when it happened, as did so many others - but I highly recommend listening to it.
Skip to 1hr 4min if you don't want to listen to the whole show, but I would recommend it the same

Edit: I had a draft written which I pasted as the URL, rather than the URL which the above links to, I fixed that

They're adding more sprint qualifying for 2022 and upping the points to actually make it worth taking the risk to go for it.

The sprint races so far weren't that bad, so I don't mind expanding them to more races.

But it's also true that they really need to increase the incentive for teams to actually race and not just do a merry-go-round-routine as a means to reduce any risk to their cars. As it is now, the drivers could enter a gentlemen's agreement to just retire by the half-way-point if they are running 10th and below. Why risk your car and degrade your engine when there's barely anything in it for you unless you're running in the top 5 (with only 3 guys getting points)? Do a couple laps, try to get ahead or defend your position, by the halfway point everything should be settled in and when everyone retires early, you have lost nothing and maybe gained a bit of an edge in the long run over those that stay out longer. A few more laps and positions 6 through 9 retire as well, since the top places are out of reach anyway.
If positions 1 through 8 get points, that changes a little. Eager to see how this pans out.

Sprints are gimmicks that belong to the junior formulae and shouldn't be part of an F1 weekend. Saturdays should be for Qualis/FP3 and racing should be on Sundays only.
I have almost paradoxical feelings about sprint races.

I think qualifying should not award points as well as the obvious advantage in the race because it becomes disproportionately impactful on the championship.

At the same time though a qualifying race without points is a terrible idea because why would anyone risk screwing up their race (as well as wear on the car) for getting a couple of places on a grid that they may just lose at the start anyway.

Which basically leads to my conclusion that there is no good way to do sprint qualifying.

IMO if there were to be points for Quali, it should be 2 for Pole, 1 for 2nd in order to reward front-row lockouts. That said, I mostly agree.

You'd Verstappen's lead is healthy enough that Red Bull wouldn't have to entertain the though of fucking with Checo's home grand prix.
With this season being so tight I have to disagree. All it takes for Verstappen's hopes to be dashed against the rocks or reality is for Hamilton to send him into the barriers once more and then finishing his race.

I mean, if Checo manages to squeeze out a comfortable lead, I would respect RB immensely if they let Checo win and I would respect Verstappen immensely if he just accepted it in a mature way without making a fuss.

Edit:
Seems like Sergio did fantastico during FP3 and Hamilton sounded devastated that he's .65s off of Perez and Verstappen.
This could become a great race! Can't wait.

That plus the last three races of the season are all expected to be Mercedes tracks while here and Brazil are expected to favour the red bull. They would be crazy to give up 7 points for Vestappen because the buffer is likely to be needed for the end of the season. That plus like you say another Silverstone or any Max DNF likely puts Hamilton right back in the lead of the championship.

Yeah, really bad luck that Tsunoda slid off the track and made Checo miss the turn... Still, this promises to be a great race and Verstappen's low speed seems to have been caused by some faulty rear wing, so he'll have no issue passing Hamilton based on his speed in the race. The bigger issue seems to be: Will Hamilton allow Verstappen to pass him?

Edit:
Sounds like Mazepin's radio guy the lead strategist is fed up with Mazepin. Almost a shame that he didn't go "Wait till my dad hears of this!" in response.

Ha ha ha ha, Just found out that Formula E runs the full Peraltada while trying to find out which side has the inside line for the first corner. Where's your petrol god now?

An early prediction for the start, Hamilton either gets ahead of Bottas or pushes Max off at T1.

Formula E lap: 2.6km and record lap is 1m10s.
Formula 1 lap: 4.3km and record lap is 1m18s.
Verstappen passes Hamilton at the start (Verstappen should have the clean side) and then we see a crash in the first corners taking out both top teams
I don't wanna sound like a douche, but if the rest of this season would be Hamilton and Verstappen crashing each other out on the start, so we end up with Verstappen winning the title but others being on the podium, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Edit:
Pretty decent race. A shame Checo didn't make it in the end, but it was a very, very close call. It was amazing to watch him close the gap to Hamilton. Verstappen was out of everybody's league today.
And I hate to admit it, but the call to put Bottas on softs to negate the point for fastest lap was ingenius and well executed. A dick move, but an impressive one.

Other than that: A bit of a chaotic start, messed up Bottas and Ricciardo's race, outright ended the race for Mick and Tsunoda, that was a shame, but the overall race was pretty decent with a few neat maneuvers here and there. And a great strategic battle for 2nd place. Added Bonus: Vettel on 7th place, so I'm a happy guy.
