The creator of V: The Miniseries was trying to tell us the truth all along while we were thinking a bunch of dummies were taking an idea from a sci-fi show.

holy crap I remember this thread

It's funny how the FES claims that the sun setting below the horizon is due to "perspective." Using the measurements they claim and if the flat world were the size of a tennis court, the sun would be at the height of a lamppost. Even from the other side of the flat world -- where it's midnight -- the sun would still be above the horizon.

I'm not sure how this isn't posted yet.

Netflix has a documentary called "Behind The Curve" and it's full of autism.

The finale to the documentary is how some guy crowd funded to do a pretty basic experiment to prove once and for all how he knew the earth was flat.

It didn't go his way.


The credits roll after this, but it's filled with tons of cuts of them trying to explain this away and basically not beliving one of the most basic demonstrations of the earth's curve there is.

I watched that last week. What was funny was the gyroscope experiment that dis proved the earth was flat and they are talking after about how they can't release the data.
 
This thread reminded me of a gem my friend found a long time ago. As we don't have threads on Russian-speaking lolcows and conspiracy theorists, I'll share this with you here.

There was a man who claimed there are no trees on Earth. Just none. Every tree is a rock, or every mountain is a giant tree. If you read Russian, you can have a good laugh from the original article:

Be aware though: the crazyness level is so high you head might hurt from trying to find any logic to these "revelations".
 
Nasa could give these theorists a fly out to see for themselves and they'd probably still doubt it. Unless of course they could ensure NASA wasn't pranking them....

I don’t believe in science.

I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust, but that’s not science, that’s just a formula.

That documentary was amazing, as was the salt it generated. Apparently when you think the Earth is flat you also think that legal contracts only apply if you want them to and microphones only pick up what you want to say. The shots of them standing around muttering about how they spent a ton of donated money and accidentally proved the Earth was round are priceless.
 
Christopher Columbus thought the earth was flat just because his boat crashed, now we have people thinking that.

Yeah, it was a good documentary on the mindset and the culture of the flat earth people. Surprising nobody, they generally believe in a random grab bag of conspiracy theories. Also surprising nobody, there's tons of infighting because they're all fighting over youtube followers.

But it was so funny to see these people design well thought out experiments that did indeed prove whether or not the earth was flat. It just proved it wasn't flat, since it isn't. At that point they abandoned the scientific method and moved to the "Publishing Bias" method. It's similar, except you get to throw out results that don't advance the narrative. Unfortunately, that method is only ever successful if you can at least get a couple studies that seem to prove the earth is flat.
