Flash games, or generally speaking, browser games! They're the best timewasters that were famous in the early 2000's and sadly died in the late 10's.... until they didn't when flash emulators like Ruffle arrived.

I made this thread because I noticed nothing like it existed yet, there was an early 2018 thread that did talk about Old Flash School flash games (1999-2002) specifically, but I feel like this would miss a bunch of other things, like browser MMOs or unity browser games.

So yeah, post about your favorite browser games here! What you like about them? What are your experiences? or even what other games that you absolutely hate for some reason. Be flash, unity, godot, pure html5, or whatever runs in my internet explorer. You can even talk about them if you haven't played in [CURRENT YEAR], but I'd still recommend checking in, as new content is still being produced almost daily.

Worthy Websites:

Flashpoint Archive - A community driven repository with over 180k flash games (and 32k animations), due to its large quantity, you may find something that can range from life-changing to absolute trash. Some of the obscure flash games may not work properly, but it's a great website if you want to find specific version of a flash game you like (like what I did with Super Mario 63)

Newgrounds - Everything by everyone. A website famous for its browser games, which they are still getting new games every few weeks. If you remember playing a game back in the early 00's, they will still run as smooth as butter. I believe you're still required to download a Newgrounds Player extension, but after that, the game is on!

Itch.io - A website dedicated in hosting browser and non-browser games, I haven't seen a single flash game but I think they exist. The only sad thing about this website is that most browser games are crappy visual novels or very basic puzzle games, but there are a few gems you can find once in a while.

Ruffle - a flash emulator that can be run in any website. You can also use it to play .swf files that are in your computer.

Arcadeprehacks (requires Y8 browser or extension) - And what if you wanted to be a dirty bloody CHEATER!? Well, you can! This website is a host for hacked browser games which allows the user have certain cheats like infinite HP, skip level, etc. Sadly it doesn't work on flash games by itself, since it doesn't use Ruffle or any other flash emulator, needing an extension. Unity games however will be run without any problem.

There's probably a couple more websites that run browser games, but I feel like this is a good enough list already.

Armor Games still hosts some of their old flash games, not everything they used to have due to the great purge of Adobe Flash circa 2020, but I remember some old stuff getting restored a while ago. (we don't talk about kongregate)

Not a current year guy when it comes to newgrounds content honestly, but I actually re-played the creeper world series on flashpoint recently, fun set of strategy/tower defense hybrid games. The dev still works on them too.
like browser MMOs or unity browser games.
We're any of these ever actually good? I remember the nonstop banner ads about fucking wartune or whatever back in the early 2010s when I was using newgrounds, but I never actually bothered playing them, the only ones that seemed to stick from that era were RoTMG and Wizard101

I think I've mentioned it before, but favorite by far is a french puzzle game called Ouverture Facile. It was taken offline when flash was retired, but there's an effort to bring it back.
I will sit and just contemplate the puzzles for hours or days sometimes in order to get through the levels. Really good stuff.

Also good: Pokemon Tower Defense

It's hard to justify playing the flash versions when you can get them on steam now. Fantastic series, and it's strange to me how well the first game holds up despite being so simple compared to the newer ones like Arc Eternal.
On the topic: Gemcraft. I picked up Chasing Shadows on Steam and it's a really addictive tower defense cult classic. I've been meaning to play through Labyrinth again and picking up Frosborn Wrath, which isn't actually a flash game. Also on the topic: Obliterate Everything. Really good little game series that has an unfortunately sad end since the developer passed away some time ago.

There was one MMO that I loved named "Transformice". It was a simple game of getting the cheese and returning home alive, but curse me if I wasn't addicted to it.

There were so many different and fun maps/gamemodes (Survival my beloved). My fondest memories are waiting for lunch break so I and other 10 people could invade the computer room and play at the same time

I also played a few other browser MMOs like Dragon City, or that one "build an empire and duel other people" type of game, but they were more like idle experiences that you checked once in a while. RoTMG was also kinda fun ngl (teleporting to the middle and either instantly dying or getting max level... those were the days).

The Game trilogy, a very entertaining time capsule back to 2008-2011 with interesting gimmicks and engaging gameplay. No I will not speak about the creator.

On a side note: Territory War! I was literally just playing this 5 minutes ago with Newgrounds Player.

Intrusion (both the original and the sequel) is a gem. Quite hard too if you were to ask young Toji about it.

I know that Abramenko is working on a third entry but not much has come out of it (aside from the fact that'll be 3d or something like that)

A different time to be sure. But there's plenty I have nostalgia for.

I remembered one stupid game for the longest time where you were a dude with no nose wearing a metal suit with a laser looking gun. Thought I'd have a ton of trouble finding it, but I found it pretty quickly. Its called Arny's Battle. I don't even remember liking it that much, it just stuck with me for some reason.
Age of War is pretty well known, and I wish that type of gameplay had a genre name, because so far I pretty much only know Battle Cats is similar.
Bot Arena was pretty fun, I guess it was a precursor to autobattlers.
Karoshi was pretty unique, decently fun puzzle platformer if memory serves.
Pause Ahead is another game I remember, probably because I quit at the last boss I think. It feels like its been done before, but its pretty neat.
Swords and Sandals (I remember probably 1/2 and Crusader) was a neat little series, though I think you had to buy them even back when.
Thing Thing was neat, a bit spammy on enemies looking back but I remember arena 3 being pretty cool.

flash games I like:

Ghost Hacker 2 (the first game was mid but second one is fire)
Raze 2 (and arguably Raze 1, but definitely not Raze 3)
Gemcraft Labyrinth the Lost Chapter
Star Era
Bloon Super Monkey 2 & Bloon Tower Defense 5 (actually almost anything from Ninja Kiwi makes it on the list)
Assemble & Battle Space
Shellcore Command 1 (didn't like Shellcore Command Skirmish, sadly the sequel Shellcore Command 2 is abandonware)
Magic Tower (and a lot of other flash games on sina.tw that aren't archived)
I think there should be more but these are the ones I remember off the top of my head

If there are Flash games that had the biggest impact on me then it would be the works of Mateusz Skutnik. Namely the Submachine series and Daymare Town series, although he made other games as well. Most of them were point and click, but they were unique even for their time due to the hand drawn art and worldbuilding, rather than being just another escape room game no. #3458097.

Those were some of the first games I've played and I remember I used to draw Submachine inspired doodles as a kid. Skutnik has a very characteristic and memorable art style. Nowadays he has remastered Submachine, and next week he will release the remastered version of Daymare Town. Finding out about it just now actually since the release date was TBD for a long time, guess it's time to whip out my wallet and pay some of my dues again.

Gonna shill myself here a little, but people don't know that there used to be licensed games, that used to be some of the best, most high quality games at the time you can play for free.

I'm talking licensed everything here, from official movie games, to random brand games, to official Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, & Disney games here. The list below barely even scratches the surface of the sheer amount of great licensed games made in a decade.
I feel like there's a big aspect of licensed game that is not talked about here, or moreso, not known at all. Browser games. Nearly every film since 2000-2015 had Flash & Unity games. You can still play most these for free on Flashpoint by Blue Maxima.

Some of my childhood classics, that were basically AAA games for me.

xXx: State of the Union
https://youtube.com/watch?v=3nnBSNmlcGMThis is the only xXx game in existence. I loved this shit as a kid, could never pass the 3rd level tho. There is a certain user here on this site who'll love it, unless he's a fake fan.

The company behind the games below, Jereon De Cloe (deadname Sticky Studios) were basically the best in licensed browser games. I won't mention all of their games, bur I recommend checking their portfolio & searching it on Flashpoint, some are really fun to play (especially 2 of their The Hobbit games, Nickelodeon, & Kids WB section), & few are basically lost to time (Final Destination 5, Gangster Squad, TDKR: Tumbler Designer, etc.), even their mobile games like The Man from U.N.C.L.E - Mission Berlin are good.

Green Lantern Combat
https://youtube.com/watch?v=nd02ic-hAIIThis is somehow better than both the movie & even the other console games that released for the movie.

Pacific Rim: Jaeger Designer
https://youtube.com/watch?v=hFKnlPIVCVcYou basically design & play with a Jeagar (mecha) of your own making from Jaegars of the 1st film (peak designs btw, 2nd movie sucked ass). You can still play it now on Flashpoint, but saving Jaegers is not available due to requiring a Facebook login. Additionally, the splash screen is black.

Pacific Rim: Jaegar Combat Simulator
https://youtube.com/watch?v=poe4pWsodI0Probably the closest thing to a free Gundam VS Kaiju game. In Flashpoint, the "Jaeger Designer" feature is not available, meaning there is no way to play as a Jaeger other than Gipsy Danger, killing one of the best parts of this game, playing as the other Jaegars APART from Gipsy Danger. The files for Cherno Alpha & Striker Eureka have been included in Flashpoint in the hope that they can be patched in. Cheat codes are not available, so no 10% damage only during combat (HEART), or unlocking the Hardcore mode (DRAGON), or ability to unlock the missions early on (PLAYON). Achievements are also not available as they require a log-in (either from WB, or Facebook, I don't remember).

Nick & WB had some of the best stuff during 3D era. My personal favorites being:

Nick Racers Revolution 3D. This game had 22 million plays, it's the dev's pride & honor, & I get why.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=RAzGBotLD08
Streets of Gotham. This game is the reason I know the character Wildcat exists.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=4FY7fGewpyQ
Proto Bat-Bot - Battle for Gotham City. Bat-Bot is something that appears in a single episode (as far as I can remember) of Batman: The Brave & the Bold, which was made just so they could sell the toy. The game let's you customise (surprisingly a lot for a browser game) & play with Bat-Bot.

That said, CN also had some great stuff like Fusion Fall, or games from Generator Rex, Ben 10, Batman Beyond, etc. were some of the best shit to be play as a kid who was a fan (or even if you weren't a Cartoon Network fan as a kid, these games had their own merit of fun to stand on). They still are even now to an extent. I never played any Scholastic ones, tho I do remember some Disney games tho, mainly The Sorcerer Apprentice: Incredible Car Chase game, Zack & Cody ones.

The one Disney game I remember the most is the World of Cars MMO, where I tried to be F2P despite Yidsney's Jewish tactics, & the only way to earn was to collect the Cars world equivalent of drugs & peyote flowers to give to the Hippie VW Van (I think?). I played that shit to the end where they made most of the game free during the end-week of the game.
