I'm sure "older" swiss guys here can tell you even more, but the downfall started in the 60s and 70s, when we imported loads of Italians to build up infrastructure.
Now, Italians aren't really all that bad, since we already have a bit of an Italian influence in our cuisine and culture due to the existence of the Tessin, but it set the precedent for the rest that came.
During the 90s and the Yugoslavia War we accepted a shitload of Balkan refugees, mainly Albanians to stay safe in our country. Now obviously the thought was that they'd leave eventually. But that didn't happen.
As far as I remember roughly 40% of swiss passport holders aren't ethnically swiss at all.
I remember going to school and basically only 50% of the class was properly swiss. We had loads of swiss-italians, swiss-portuguese, swiss-turks and so on, obviously they were all rather decent people but it's a demographic trend for sure. Nowadays it's even worse though and assimilation and integration is dropping now that those secondos are the majority.
Anyhow, were having a vote in June about restricting immigration as soon as we hit 10 Million residents. I feel like it will pass, it won't quite save us. But it's a step in the right direction.
It's telling how our economic elites are trying to spin it into a doomsday picture though, because they're afraid they'll loose access to their cheap labour. In general. The swiss economy can absolutely go fuck itself. It has never done anything for me except fuck my rental and insurance costs with the influx of millions of cheap labourers that need housing, insurance, healthcare and so on and so forth.
