I'll confess, I'm a FNAF fan. To be fair, it's largely because I find the lore interesting and am a sucker for game theories and reading way too much into plot analysis. The gameplay is admittedly pretty boring, and people who want to bang Chica or think they were Foxy in a past life are...um. Unique folks.

I always laugh at how people try to make foxy out to be this dark brooding character, when you can actually hear him sing in the first game and he has a stereotypical dopey cartoon voice.

Headcanons will be headcanons. In-game, the animatronics have absolutely no personalities besides wanting to end the player character for some reason, so the fans give the machines personalities based on their fantasies. Broken down animatronic hidden in an out-of-order area must = sad, so Foxy is a sad animatronic?

So there's a 'Mega stream' going on on youtube right now between all the FNAF theorists; Game Theory, Smike, 8-Bit Gaming, the works, but that's not the funny bit. The funny bit is the stream has crashed for 5 minutes straight and the chat is filled with spam posts of people losing their shit at being denied their FNAF theories.

How does this even work? Besides demented headcanons, the most interaction these characters have between each other in-game is maybe killing each other. That's...very romantic?

One of my really young cousins is into this game. At one point, he said he wanted to be a FNAF security guard when he grew up.

He'll grow out of it. Heck, I wanted to be Indiana Jones AND Jackie Chan when I grew up. I'm never going to give up hope.

I wonder what it is about Five Nights at Freddy's that attracts the younger end of the spectrum. I mean, I can't imagine that most of them have ever played the games themselves, unless they stole Mommy's credit card and had a computer of their own to play it on. You'd think any parent worth their salt would see 'Jump Scare Animatronics and Child Murder: The Game' and think twice about letting their eight, nine, or ten-year-old buy it online. (Do they even sell most games in retail stores anymore?) Then again, in my torturous months as a GameStop employee, I did see quite a few elementary schoolers get GTA for Christmas.

Cheese-like robots who are 2spoopy. You only learn about the child murders if you look deeply into all the games for clues to build up a tangible plotline.

Really, do many parents look that deeply into video game plots when buying the games for their kids? Besides looking at the ESRB ratings, maybe parents just want their kids to be in tune with entertainment culture, and want their kids to have fun. Speaking of which, do any of the FNAF games even have official ESRB ratings anyway?

As far as I know, the ESRB didn't rate the FNAF (probably because it's online only), but the Apple App Store rated the iPad/iPhone versions ages 12+.

Yeah you actually have to do a lot of work to find out the plot in the first game because there are newspaper clippings that appear randomly on the walls as you play and you basically have to take a screenie and look at it after you finish playing to read them.
In the first and second games no one comes right out and explains the plot and it's told non verbally and still kind of vauge. Chances are most parents aren't going to look much further into it other than to check theres no straight up voilence, blood, swearing or robo sex
