With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

it doesn't surprise me that sam is done with fishtank, he loses passion for basically all of his projects after a year or two. i believe he's said before that he needs to be constantly working on a new thing or else he feels stuck artistically, and you could see this by season 4. i'd imagine the sam hyde show will meet the same fate, he'll just kinda get bored and stop making new episodes.

i don't think it guarantees that the show is over, but the replacement host has to be jan or someone equally as charismatic.

If their new host isn't the kind of person who can act with authority and make a household of autists stfu and listen, then fishtank is finished. The fish ALWAYS fucked with Jet. With Ben, they LIKED him more, but didn't necessarily respect him enough to obey. The show needs at least one person who the fish will obey.

If they started off with a normie cast, they might have been able to overcome this lack of authority by just faking it until they make it, but since they're clearly hiring a fan cast again, everyone is already going to know that Jet is a little bitch, and Ben is his No. 2. I'm not even sure Jet and Ben understand the difference between authority and popularity. The inmates will be running the asylum.
 
Isn't Sam more than half the point of Fishtank? I don't follow the show but I thought him fucking with the contestants was the appeal. Without him its just a more retarded Big Brother.
 
It's going to be unbearble without Sam over the whole season. I like Ben but he can't wrangle Jet. Jet is constantly ruining all the fun bits because they are not going the exact way he planned them out in his head while he walks around in the most god awful outfit you've ever seen.

Still gonna watch tho.

Yeah, he was the main draw IMO. I'm not even the biggest Hyde-guy, but he has undoubted charisma and authority when it comes to herding retards. It's gonna be difficult to replace such a pull, and knowing these guys, I doubt they'll be able to realistically

I told you all. He looked MISERABLE during s4 and said Fishtank was a financial disaster and money sink. He ain't interested.

I hate to be that guy, but I really think Stein is the new host sadly. When asked about other potential hosts, they openly denied them, but when asked about Stein, they gave a long pause and then a non answer. Maybe I'm reading too far into things, and I hope I'm wrong, but IMO the body language was pretty concerning

I think the authority is most often delegated to an entity in reality TV, I would way this is the program itself, all of production and the prestige of being on broadcast TV. They get gravitas for free. Their hosts are representatives of the entity and don't need to hold authority.
When you don't have that in a dinky online show Sam was really the only answer they had. It is going to be a difficult problem and they seriously risk becoming a fishtank spinoff in spirit.

It will be interesting to see if they can manage this.

I could see him not hosting but still funding, given that so many whales watch this show, it's plausible to assume it's still profitable as an investor. Correct me if I'm wrong tho, I haven't kept much up with Jet so IDK if same cut him off completely or not.
 
I could understand how Sam would be too busy to do Fishtank as he has to do his incredibly thrilling talk show that pumps out a single episode a month or his top tier gaming playthrough channel.

Or maybe he will be too busy working on his video game that's been in pre production for the last ten years.
 
I don't think it needs any of Sam's funding. They made like $2m gross season 1 between show revenue and the "investors" and it's probably only gone up since then. I forget the actual number but you could just calculate how many fishcoin in stox got bought from IPOs on S5 and they basically paid for the entire season just from that.

In the off-season, payroll can probably be covered just by people letting their season passes renew.
