With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

  • 2 Stars — Pretty bad. Some funny moments, dragged, too many vibe repair days. Barely worth checking.

  • 3 Stars — Average. Solid entertainment in spots, some good chaos and crashouts, but nothing special

    Votes: 176 22.7%
  • 4 Stars — Really good. Lots of hilarious moments, strong fish personalities, solid content and vibes

Elimination voting only works on game shows that are team based and they are trying to get rid of the weakest link that makes a team lose challenges/rewards. It's a bad idea for fishtank and Sam was right to call it a stupid idea right to Jet's faggot face on the RV trip.
Lets go the vote sperging is back. While it’s not something I’d push outright, I don’t think vote-based elimination is as bad as people make out. Like everything else on fishtank, voting is a tool that should be used to give the best content outcomes possible. In its purest unregulated form voting is dogshit because active contestants are more likely to get kicked out, but I don’t think anybody is advocating for that.

Consider the first elimination vote of season three. Production provided the fish with a motivator to be active through the candy challenge. The three contestants with the most candy would be given immunity. This was in retrospect (perhaps unintentionally) pretty smart. It allowed the audience and prod to see which fish were most willing to put aside their morals and create content, while also being able to rig immunity for the most active fish if they desired.

Keep in mind the results could be by chance, but if it was it was a mighty coincidence. What fish were given immunity? Contestants who were at the time very scummy/controversial, but who weren’t outright nontent. Iirc they were simbal, Alexis, and La’ron They were hated but engaging. Fish rightfully rewarded for being backstabbers and driving conflict. Their immunity just fueled their scummy but engaging behavior further since it was shown to payoff. It was a content positive.

That left either content titans (Burt, Alex, and Luke) or those who had yet to confidently show their value on the show. Obviously Burt and Alex weren’t going to be eliminated, but letting them believe they were up for elimination was a very smart choice content-wise. This is proved no better than when Alex was freaking out at the mere notion he would be voted out. Imo one of his funniest moments was when he and Ian were down to the final two up for elimination. The audience knew Alex wasn’t going to be eliminated, but seeing him writhe was very funny.

The mistake most people make is thinking vote-based elimination needs to be real. It doesn’t. It just needs to seem real to the fish. Fishtank should not be a fair show in the traditional sense. I wouldn’t give a fuck if Ian had the most candy, I’d take Burt or Alex over him any day of the week. Production seemed to forget that during Famous House 2.0. Perhaps due to laziness or incompetence, but it was a severe mistake all the same.

I agree that it is very engaging when it seems real to the fish, but the problem remains: If the fish think it's real and that they can be voted out by other fish for each elimination, then they will still act in a much less confrontational way to one another because it's the optimal strategy. Even if the challenge rewards you with immunity for being a backstabber or pissing other people off, the contestants still have to weigh the chances of winning against the chances of losing and pick the better option, which would generally be trying to win the challenge without ever becoming a target. And even if someone did make themselves a target in order to win immunity for that elimination, they'd potentially still be a target for the next elimination and they'd have to weigh that too.

It's generally bad for drama unless it somehow works out to be a longform social game with manipulation and conniving, but these are literal retards we are talking about and fishtank is a livestream and not an edited tv show. In a show so full of boring moments I think it's best that the contestants are comfortable with creating as much drama as much as possible without worrying about the consequences of being unlikable to other players. There are already social consequences and voting would just be one extra reason not to stir the pot. I also think it's best if they don't have to worry about being unlikable to the audience and I like the idea of audience voted eliminations even less.

I think the only way to lie about vote consistently would be to always claim it is an audience vote because that is the one group that the people in the house will not be able to have a read on. If it is a house vote there will come a point where the content retard does something glorious enough to piss off the entire house and then when he is not voted off it will be pretty obvious it is rigged. But if the audience (fakely) decided they would have trouble proving anything. Also to keep whales out of it, just let them vote on inconsequential things and have all the main narrative ones rigged.

not sure how recent this is. Piratetank confirmed?

Jet, I know you are reading this thread. I'll take back every mean thing I ever and apologize on behalf of the entire forum if you do another surprise season over the holidays.

Ben, I know you are reading this thread. Be Gay Pirate Ben aka Ben Sparrow.
Ben ignore him, be the George Harrison pirate that refuses to stop being in character even after the gimmick falls apart to the point of disrupting planned events to re-pirate-fy them

I've been hammering it home that Ben's disappearance from his Hong Kong 2 pod has been him working full time getting Fishtank on track, I hope I'm very, very right.

Honestly a heavily themed season sounds good right now. That would make me a little excited if they really HAVE spent this time planning something big.
They added a ton of new items and they're all apocalypse/Fallout themed. Probably a coincidence but the Tank being a knockoff Fallout vault would actually work really well.

...all I want is a "giant squid attack" and it's been and jet beating the fish with pool noodles, in the middle of the night, as they try to sleep

I think the big issue is letting THEM vote.

The Fish should not get to decide anything. In theory the stox were a good idea because it controlled who was up for elimination.
the way to financialize fishtank is to make the whole thing backed by an actual treasury funded with the prize money(where endorsements are tied to a prediction market that ends with the winner's odds at 100%)

but they were too retarded to make a fun simulation of asset price action so there's no shot the gas-huffers figure out how to make this work in a way that doesn't manifest as a cryptocurrency scam
