I think reality TV shows usually just rent a house or mansion to do their productions in.So for this show to legitimately work, they would need to rent some type of home that's on a filming lot or something? Is that how other reality TV shows that require contestants to live together work?
I'm just trying to wrap my head around how they can not let this happen again. I mean, honestly, they will probably continue to use houses that they can not legally do this type of show in.. just in a different more relax state because there probably isn't any profit to make in this type of show if you have to go about doing it right way.
I think it helps though that they may choose places that are in more secluded locations rather than a place that looks to be a normal neighborhood. Since you'd want to prevent looky-loos coming around (as has happened with Fishtank) and make sure the production has their own space to work or prepare things for challenges or whatever.
I'm skeptical that the Fishtank people were working on getting proper production insurance, since I get the impression a lot of it was pretty amateurish. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't bother even getting catering of some sort for those working on the show (seems normal to just do a buffet setup or some kind of craft services).
I imagine the real challenge is getting stuff like production insurance, which I suspect Jet/Fishtank didn't bother with, since it'd mean having to supply safety plans, scripts, locations, and other such information to the insurance company.
They probably just figured they could get any random house and use it for the streaming show while skipping a lot of the harder aspects of actually doing a reality tv show of some sort.
