With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

I believe so too. I just do not know how they can grow their audiences beyond the initial seed of fishtank fans, the algos these days just seem to be fucked and prevent new viewers from trickling in. Not to mention Youtube is also not geared for streaming and discoverability like Twitch is. In theory having an audience size of 200-400+ like Tayleigh and Josie did at their peaks should have been enough for algos to start recommending random people towards them but all we saw over time was just a slow bleed down from their peaks no matter how reliably they streamed or how good the content was. I seriously do not understand why Josie opted for Youtube over Twitch considering her content is more or less perfectly aligned for the rather draconian Twitch TOS.

Also I managed to drum up that chart of engagement whenever fishtank airs on 4chan. I can't find the one showing engagement on Twitter for each season that passed through the chatroom but it shows about the same thing except with more engagement for Season 2 in the first week or two then a hard drop off, 2.5 being lower than either.

I never watched Josie however I imagine she would have appeal outside the Fishtank community. I’m not really sure why her views are dropping off. She could be growing her audience but like other people have said YouTube has terrible discoverablity. Taylor’s YouTube shorts have been getting some traction and I imagine she could get an audience outside of fishtank fans. However, her openly having a boyfriend sort of permanently handicaps her as a female streamer.

I believe either Sam or Jet told her to stream on YouTube. I think YouTube is supposed to be better if you have a larger audience, however, I’m also pretty sure that Twitch is much better if you have a smaller audience.

To grow as a smaller streamer on youtube you need to do more than stream. The algorithm favors videos and VODs don't count. I don't know enough to say what anyone should do, anyway. Milk it while you can but don't expect it to last.
 
ok so far i would say: Peak S2 > peak S1 = whatever the hell this intermission shit is > most of S2.5 > low bits of season 1 > low bits of S2.5 > worst bits of S2
they really managed to capture the comfyness and social experiment vibe of peak S1 with the cell & and bitchtank, though its still inferior to the crazier bits of S2
 
Another challenge. Oddbod is playing as an unruly cat and the girls have to earn his trust. The reward is having Oddbod as an ally in a future event.
As expected, this whole thing turned into a pillow fight.





Shadi won the challenge.
 
Final challenge of the night was Insult Death Challenge. A set of I think two dozen stripes were taped onto the floor. The audience was instructed to send an insult to a fish in order to advance them along the track, where they 'die' when they reach the end of the track. A nice TTS would send them backwards away from death.

Initially Abi and Shadi were both way down and close together because even though Abi had way more insults coming at her, she had a handful of simps that Shadi didn't have at first until they noticed she was at risk and sent her all the way back to the start. So Abi was way at the end of the course with people sending TTS saying they wish Jimmy had killed her, that she is hideous and retarded, that she ruined s2, that her burps are disgusting etc etc even after she eventually died and just had to stand there through it maybe 30 different messages all telling her to die even though she had already lost. She was seething under her breath about how evil Jimmy and Tayleigh fans targeted her.

The other three couldn't make it more then 1/3 of the way down the course without receiving simp TTS pushing them back up. Jet changed the rules so that simp TTS no longer counted because the game was going on too long so eventually Claire was the last one standing. Jet said something like, tomorrow she will be asked a Yes or No question that will lead into their first actual elimination.

As soon as that was resolved and Abi got into bed Ben came in and told her to announce that someone paid for her bed to be stolen.
 
Jet laid a fat turd in their bathroom, leaving it for the girls to find in the morning. Chip is now pooping on top of Jet's poop for double the poop, as Jet and Ben prepare the fingers-in-warm-water-sleepover prank.

Well Abi was right about Jimmy/Tayleigh fans targeting her. It seems Aperture lost his fucking mind during that event and has been sperging the whole time Abi has been on bitchtank.

I saw it referenced a few times through TTS that Haley is actually about 30. There was a moment last night (before the oddbod cat challenge) where Letty came in and basically told Haley that she looks good for her "real" age. Haley didn't say much, but she didn't give any pushback about 25 not being her real age. She looks so beat she could be easily be in her early 30s imo.
