Now... when we talk about fish like Jon, Mauro, Simmons, and JC, it's not just that they were unprepared for the show, they were also not prepared to greet MDE fans after the show.

When I think about it that way, Crash really fucked Shinji up by not preparing him to expect this.

Probably a good time to remind anyone unaware that, as much as it was pushed that everyone but JC was a fan, Shinji basically knew nothing about Sam or the show, Crash and the other friend having him go in completely blindly.

This has nothing to do with going in blind, Shinji is just naturally susceptible to bouts of depression under stress, and its why he almost walked from the show multiple times. He also received a trivial amount of hazing from the fanbase during the show, the amount of hostile TTS he got is a fraction of what someone like Tay received, particularly during the final two weeks when production started censoring positive tts towards her. Shinji never had a reason to build up the proper defensive mindset against hostile members of the fanbase the way Brian, Jimmy, Tay, TJ and Trish did. The 8 examples he listed are so fucking tame compared to the machine gun fire negative TTS Tay would receive during the final week calling her a dyke or Jimmy got with the dogfucker meme that its laughable that Shinji would get upset over it.

There is a segment of the fishtank fanbase (not people here) who are legit fucked in the head and get off on being evil.. To go out of your way to DM Shinji telling him to kill himself months after the show ended is so weird and unnecessary. It's one thing to do it over TTS because that's part of the show but the show is over. You're not just making a joke anymore you're bein a psycho. Like what are you going to even get mad at Shinji over? I literally can't think of a single thing Shinji did on the show that would get people mad over him. He was universally liked in the tank. No one had beef with him. How you could get so worked up your in the DM's telling him to shoot himself is fucking beyond me. Like that's mental illness/sociopathy.

It's not surprising. Fishtank has always had an appeal to sociopaths due to the whole "torture random people in hell house" aspect of it. There is a vocal portion of the fanbase who complains about Fish not suffering enough and would be completely satisfied if the show just consisted of mental breakdowns from physical and emotional stress.

Which we already know doesn't lead to good content. When the fish are really suffering they just shutdown mentally. Forcing them to live off of grits is a good example it just made them low energy and miserable. Suffering does not create interesting footage.
 
IMO the perfectly tuned torture moments they've had have been:
Sylvia getting whalloped with karma after telling Letty to listen to the TTS and abruptly getting the filter lifted and being told over and over that she can't use TTS against Letty because production literally has to filter the TTS for her
TJ losing at standup, Sam telling him this was all preordained because he was being a pussy during his attic interview, and being forced to eliminate Taylor to stay in
Vance refusing to just beat Josie at walking and fucking his whole leg up in the process to illustrate what a pussy he is
This doesn't quite count because Tay was the culprit, but Tayleigh hammering Fatty into the gooncave after Fatty was being a cunt was a great one

It's always better when it's karmic. They tried to manufacture karmic situations (Bothering Jimmy over the "manifesto" which was just a series of dumb unfunny gags, accusing Tayleigh of smoking weed, etc) but it's not as good. Otherwise there's a limit to how far they can go before production starts to seem vindictive or sadistic.
