It’s the sacrifice of long term content for a short term boost. They did that a lot at that point in the show just because of how slow things were. Jimmy throwing a mallet at Abby was memorable and drew in a lot of viewers, but it lasted for at most like an hour before everyone moved one.I get that it's highly clipped and talked about but the show should not be deliberately pushing people to that level. That's playing with fire and they are lucky it was relatively inconsequential for Abi. That said, I think what they saw was how clipped it was and walked away thinking they need more of that without considering potential negatives.
Same with Jimmy beating up TJ then quitting. Brings in viewers, peaks the show for a bit, then results in a collapse and a few days where nothing happens. It’s an incredibly risky strategy that usually doesn’t pay off and is done only out of desperation and ignorance by production.
If you put your foot on the gas too low for too long your car is going to suffer for it. You may go fast for a little while, but the overall payoff of such an action can actually harm the end goal. No different here.
