With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

So what exactly is his plan here? I have questions and I'm just so fucking confused. Is he really expecting people to show up to a family friendly event, on Thanksgiving, on the Washington coast, during what is essentially Winter for the region? Why is he having "his" shindig 340 road-miles from where he lives? Why Ocean Shores? Is he paying for rooms and food? Does he seriously expect to not get trespassed for being a loud retard? I NEED ANSWERS. Also, season 2 is next month, right?

Better still: he has been teasing that he's going to stream nonstop from there for two weeks.

My most charitable guess is that he's got some sort of relationship with a manager there, and the manager there is being lenient with him and is very ignorant and has been telling him things like, "why don't you invite all your friends to come here on Thanksgiving, we'll be doing a big full service party..." and the space between what that guy is saying and what we are hearing is "Jon thinks he would be doing that guy a favor by inviting as many people as possible when that is not the case."

The hotel probably does that event for the townies, because they're not getting winter business. He also said they were going to stream from there on New Year's so he's about to learn how easily eclipsed his audience can be by the new season of Fishtank (if it survives the Jettening.)

Speaking honestly, if Vance, for example, streamed during Season 2, if nothing in particular was going on in the house I would pop him on. Even though they can't all be bangers, his best prank calls have been holy shit good. But if they do anything on the show on New Year's, there's no way in hell people will be looking at Jon.

Why the hell do they even want that at this point? Why is he still trying to ingratiate himself with the old guard that is losing influence and prestige all the time? They know that you can be wildly successful without having a tv deal. All the talk about counter culture rings very hollow when you’re aiming to become a Viacom property.

Let's put aside the fact that Jet is dead wrong. In fact let's pretend that it was the other way around and Frank was dead wrong. Many people are going to take Frank's side anyway simply because they like him more.

As it is, the only people who will take Jet's side are Fishtank clout chasers or literal paypigs who run cover for Jet delivering a terrible product.

Based on the summary of Round 2 between the two of them it sure sounds like Jet was mad at Frank for something that happened prior to editing and as a result has tried to edit him out of the show, and maybe even happened during filming itself.

I wonder whether Frank was (one of) the people who tipped off Sam that Jet was floundering and he needed to start coming over more and take direct control of the show.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "the cast was shit," just that even though they were able to pull together some crazy personalities, a solid majority either quit earlier than they should have or tried to sleep through the show to win it. They had standouts but on the whole the casting wasn't lucky.

They need strivers and clout chasers who they can punish. Letty was a lucky get because she evidently hates clout but was just having fun in a regimented, stimulating environment unlike whatever depressing things she does at home. But normal people need to actually give a fuck about the carrot at the end of the show in order to be interesting and that wasn't most of the s1 cast.

I don't think there is any actual evidence Sam was ever trying to pitch the show to a major network. Seems like a rumor people made up.
