The Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer will make history Saturday, but it won’t be the first time.

Rohrer will be installed as bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, making them the denomination’s first out transgender bishop. Rohrer was the first out trans pastor ordained by the ELCA back in 2006, under what the church called an “extraordinary candidacy process,” as its regular ordination process did not open to out LGBTQ+ clergy for four more years. Rohrer was elected in May to a six-year term as bishop of the synod, which covers nearly 200 congregations in California and Nevada.

“I step into this role because a diverse community of Lutherans in Northern California and Nevada prayerfully and thoughtfully voted to do a historic thing,” Rohrer said in a press release. “My installation will celebrate all that is possible when we trust God to shepherd us forward.”
The installation ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Rohrer will be joined by Elizabeth Eaton, presiding bishop of the ELCA, along with nearly all 65 bishops of the various ELCA synods across the United States. The synod staff who will serve alongside Rohrer will be installed as well. Ross Murray, an ELCA deacon and senior director of the GLAAD Media Institute, will be an assisting minister in the ceremony.

“While Bishop Rohrer’s installation is a historic step in LGBTQ leadership in the church, it is a continuation of the ministry that Bishop Rohrer has been doing for their whole ministry,” Murray said in a statement to The Advocate. “They recognize the face of God in the marginalized and the privileged, and focus their ministry on youth, the homeless, people of color, LGBTQ people, and others historically left out of the life of the church.”
Friday and Saturday will be filled with related events, including a listening session led by the Rev. Nicole Garcia, the first Latinx transgender pastor in the ELCA; a roller-skating event raising funds for a youth camp; and an interfaith memorial service commemorating the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

“The diverse events surrounding my installation point to a God who joins us in worship, on the streets, at our jobs, and when we roller-skate,” Rohrer said. “During all the difficulties we have encountered through the pandemic, it is more important than ever to celebrate joy, hope, and love everywhere that we find it.”

Their website puts more gendershit on it than God, and proudly links a PDF about how they're committing to make the gays and troons in the forefront of their church. This kind of shit really makes me doubt if maintaining my own Protestant faith is worth it, holy shit.

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping." - 2 Peter 2:1-3

I'm just shocked it wasn't the Episcopalians. I often see their churches sporting signage with pro-BLM, pro-LGBT, and whatever else the leftoid buzzwordsalad of the day happens to be.

It was kind of funny when one particular Episocopalian church couldn't decide whether to put out the 'We support our Muslim neighbors' sign or the 'We support our Asian neighbors' sign and kept switching out weekly.

Perhaps Catholicism is not so bad my Christ bros
Catholicism is currently in a civil war between outright communists and “I just want to pray for fucks sake” conservatives.

Nowhere is safe. Organized religion in general was a huge mistake.

Is that thing a man or a woman? I can only tell its ugly and that's not a sex.

Current cuck pope isn't any better. Old Pole and German Palpatine were way better.

MTF troon if I guessed by the name it claims. EDIT: I'm pretty sure this blogspot from 2008 belongs to this fucking troon, and yes it is MTF. His name is Ryan. In his blog he refers to God as "God(dess)," clearly demonstrating a blatently heretical mindset about Christianity even outside of being a Goddamned troon. Additionally, in his twitter bio he refers to himself as disabled which, assuming he means mentally, is absolutely and self-evidently correct.

Cannot tell if this is a MTF who doesn't care about passing, a FTM who doesn't care about changing her name, or an anything-to-nonbinary.

But ELCA hardly qualifies as Lutheran. It is unlike every other Lutheran denomination in the United States in several important ways. All the confessional Lutherans left for those other synods years ago, or they are hunkered down in fortress churches that pay no mind to the national organization.

Sometimes I think I'm unfairly dismissive of liberal Christians; the world is full of looney tunes, at least they have some kind of church for them. It's better than nothing, right? Then I think, maybe nothing would be better. At least with nothing, there's a chance you'll intuit moral law. Liberal denominations actively lead people away from it in some ways.

ELCA aren't really Lutherans. They pretty much ignore the entirety of Luther's catechism and huge chunks of the Bible.

It's a strange path they took to get where they are. You don't get to call yourself Lutheran if you kneel during the ceremony or if your pews are padded. I'm sure some of them have tambourines like Baptists, and that's an express ticket to hell.

But.... isn't god perfect according to The Bible?
If he's perfect, how are there trans people?
Whether you think transgenderism is just in someone's head or a real biological thing, it suggest that god made a bunch of mistakes, put male brains in female bodies etc.
Jahwe doesn't make mistakes, everything is how it should be.
You saying that you were never really a man but a woman with a penis suggests that you know better than god, that's not what a Christian would think and definitely not something a preacher should think or say.

Have these people read The Bible?

Like, two, maybe three verses. I do take issue with the thread subtitle, as a Methodist my great foe may be the Calvinists in the various Reform churches, but they don't deserve to be even accidentally associated with these Lutherans. Proper Calvinists are right hardcore about their religion.

I thought it was Peter Griffin.

No. They are not Christians in any way, shape or form. 2 Timothy 3:5 is about such people; they want Christianity without the Christ in it.
