So the second Democratic Debates are scheduled to take place starting tomorrow, July 30 and 31. I decided to create this thread ahead of time so we can discuss the possible outcome of the debates in the coming days.

Those that have qualified for the debates are in the spoilers.

Amy Klobuchar, Senator from Minnesota
John Hickenlooper, former Governor of Colorado
Tim Ryan, Congressman from Ohio
John Delaney, former Congressman from Maryland
Marianne Williamson, Author from California
Steve Bullock, Governor of Montana

Joe Biden, former Vice President of the United States from Delaware
Kamala Harris, Senator from California
Cory Booker, Senator from New Jersey
Julian Castro, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from Texas
Andrew Yang, tech executive from New York
Tulsi Gabbard, Congresswoman from Hawaii
Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator from New York
Jay Inslee, Governor of Washington
Michael Bennet, Senator from Colorado
Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City, New York

The only real difference between this and the first debates last month, other than shuffling the candidates around, is that everyone's favorite gun hater Eric Swalwell won't be participating due to his withdrawal from the race earlier this month.

Am I crazy or did they shuffle who they think the losers are going to be into the first night?

Will we see a comeback from Yang or will the remaining part of his supports an hero?

The latter obviously :story:

Anyway the first iteration of this circus was very entertaining, so here's to hoping for a repeat.

Im just waiting for Biden to get called a cishet rich white male, tbh

Its gonna be more of the same. More virtue signaling. More not caring about joe sixpack. I'll watch.

I remember when i was looking up the line up for this debate a week ago how 3 out 4 sites i looked mentioned that night one was all whitey and all POCs where throw into night two, i wonder if they did this on purpose to fuck Biden

I wonder who will out-pander the other when it comes to Booker and Harris on Day 2. They both love to revolve everything about being black lol

I wouldn't want either of them as president.

I don't want another dindu nuffin police thing where either one of them does an Obama and says "that could've been my son/daughter" to fearmonger fellow niggas into thinking that all police are against them.

will these guys go through primary elections like the republican candidates did before the 2016 election? what's the process that will decide their actual candidate?

They will go through a similar process, although their primary is a little more complicated (Democrats had some real bullshit rules around "Superdelegates" in the 2016 primiary, which apparently have been adjusted).

Before the primary - there is not an express process, typically people drop out on the honor system when they realize they have no chance of winning. You'll (ideally) be left with a clear candidate or two through this process until they have the actual primary election in 2020.

The problem that the Democrats are likely going to run into is that candidates that aren't going to drop out and will fight to the last man (or woman) instead of helping the candidate (and by extension, party). They already did a bad job of it in 2016 (between Sanders and Clinton). Sanders, most notably, stayed in the primary so long and fought so hard that when he turned face and endorsed Clinton - he was boo'ed by his own supporters. I think that in 2020 they're going to wind up with a field of 7 or so candidates coming from very different places - making this already real problem of unity much worse.

It's going to be a hilarious shit show.
